3A 30W FP5139 DC-DC Boost Buck Adjustable Converter.
Hello RU-vidrs, this is a test of a cheap $2 ebay boost/buck converter based on the FP5139 switching regulator control IC for low voltage DC.
The vendor info says Input voltage range is 5.0-25V, and Output voltage range is 0.5V-25V.
The device arrived with no instructions.

Connected module to my adjustable power supply at 12V.
Without a load, the output was fixed at 4V, no matter what the input supply was adjusted to.
Next, I connected a 228 ohm, 5W resistor across the output, as a load.
A load is required for proper operation of the device. With input held at 12V, the output could be adjusted from about 0V to 30V.
It was recommended by Onstate 198 to keep the input at or above 10V, to reduce heating.
The calculated current through the 228R load was about 0.13A at 30V.
I connected the meter in series to measure actual current, and adjusted input voltage up and down. It was seen that current was directly related to input voltage, but did not exceed 0.08A at 30V.
On switching back from current measurement, there was a spark discharge while connecting the leads. This caused the module to shut down output. I reset the module by removing and replacing the jumper, and was relieved to see the module spring back to life.
I next checked the temperature of the module and the load. At maximum output of 30V, the load temperature quickly rose to 45+ deg C, while the 3 main ICs stayed around 32 deg C.
I have a linear power supply that is about 100 times bigger and heavier than this module, but has the same rated output voltage and current. So, I guess this converter is worth the $2.
