So many times I have looked at my team and it was so close to this... But I replaced Saka with mount because I was afraid of the tripple attack. But in all honesty I also feel like Arsenal trio has the Best value for money with the highest returns

I've had some drafts with the triple up saka, martinelli and jesus. I'm just not sure if it's the way to go. I mostly did it because I'm not as sold on Bailey, except for villa having very good fixtures. The draft I had with the three of them was as followed Sanchez Trent - Robertson - Cancelo - Trippier Salah - Saka - Martinelli - Neto Kane - Jesus SUBS: Ward - N. Williams - Andreas - Plange It's either that or Sanchez Trent - Robertson - Cancelo - James Salah - Saka - Bailey - Neto Kane - Jesus SUBS: Ward - N. Williams - Andreas - Plange

The reason engines are so good at chess is because there are many things that the engine gets to measure to evaluate the position. You can look at a position and even a casual player could tell you which side is better. Go is much more complex, so AlphaZero beating a human was such a huge deal. FPL is even more complex. It's going to be an even bigger deal. Things like risk management can be sort of complicated for the AI, as it would simply pick the best team. We humans normally take calculated risks by picking for differentials. Some will fail, some will be a huge success. All we care is that it should result in a net positive. I doubt computers could do this in the foreseeable future. Also, the "eye-test" can't be done by computers. And they won't be able to do it for a very very long time.

@@xoladlamini3675 To be fair, stats like xG are basically an eye-test done by the computer to see how likely the player is to score. And we all know how - not necessarily bad - but superficial it is. Remember that season when Kane was assisting like hell under Mourinho. He had a low xA. They just crunch the stats. There's no real understanding of the game, which is normally mandated. Another point, which is that they can't do subjective thinking, was also excellently brought up in the video. They can't say, for eg. "If Darwin starts starting, Salah might have to share goals." (I'm not no-Salah though, I have him). In contrast, chess engines are very well capable of thinking such things (they don't literally think, but you get it) as it's restricted to the pitch and the properties are well understood. In football, it's chaos. Random player in the back is injured, and it harms a striker. Another random player gets injured, and then some guy starts to score like crazy. And there's a major spicing of randomness, which I doubt AIs will understand.

Go is more complex than Chess? lol no buddy, its because Competitive chess games has players writing moves DURING GAMES for the past 100+ years. So there is a log of counters for each move and each variation. A casual would not know of this. Even me, playing school level chess at 6th grade, was required to write moves on a paper the school provided. and this is in Bangladesh. fwiw I am nothing more than an average player.

Even Deep Blue’s 3.5-2.5 win was controversial and Kasparov branded it “as smart as your alarm o’clock”. Anyhow, as a manufacturing engineer who took many probabilities courses, it’s fascinating and I’m REALLY tempted to use it. By the way, scientists now are trying to develop an AI program that will mimic a human being (playing chess)… GREAT video!!!

Triple arsenal attack is my differential. Wouldn't be surprised if arsenal concede against Palace or Leicester but their attack is a different beast now. Its the pressing that stands out to me, I think its going to catch teams unaware, especially at the beginning of the season. Reminds me very much of the Liverpool team of 13/14 when they would blow teams away in the first half.

I’ve done a similar thing. But instead of planning the substitutions outright, which I think is a bit dangerous, I engineered a decay model where future gameweeks are weighted less in the model as they have higher uncertainty. I’ve then built in variables where you can increase the “risk” you are willing to take with future periods and the bench. Happy to share my python script if you PM me.

@@Ozeenl my max rank 3 years ago was ~200 with this method. To preempt the 5-4-1 questions. I have had a couple awful starts the last 2 years. It’s funny the last 2 years I have ignored the result of the model which has increasingly preferred defence assets, (i forced through my personal preference of 3-4-3). But now am realising that the tactical shift to wing-backs for all the dominating teams in the league makes the defence the best value spend in the squad. Ultimately, these premium defenders should probably be priced at 8-9m, maybe more… if anyone is interested I can run the code and see at what price point TAA stops getting picked to ascertain what price he should have.

Funny thing is, it _was_ slightly predictable. Dennis is a card magnet. I had him earlier than most (GW7) and witnessed him taking his shirt off after he scored not once, not twice, but three times!! Bleedin' infuriating 🤣

Done a similar approach for the last two seasons (my only two playing FPL - I don't really watch any football). I use merged data from a few different sources (bookie odds, stats sites, etc) - but the biggest single improvement I've made since I first wrote it was evaluating risk as well as expected points. Still leads to a few situations where some hard-coded rules are required (like downgrading stats of promoted teams), but overall very helpful for wildcarding, transfer analysis, chip planning, etc.

I finally found my soulmate who also agrees with me both in terms of tripping up on Arsenal attack as well as having only 2 Liverpool assets and leave the 3rd open to be determined later. You most certainly wouldn't believe me if I told you aside from Digne and Taylor this draft was exactly the same that I've been grappling with for the entire past week!

Matches my draft team with three exceptions: Cancelo->Robbo, Walker->Digne, Archer->Taylor (but may move to Taylor as Archer was a guess). I like Walker/Ederson match considering holes in Man City D in Community Shield. A little concerned with the Gunners' triple up as they don't start as well as they finish, historically, but was thinking Zaha for Saka for a hedge....excellent work on this Andy/FPL Focal Team! Cheers!

The optimiser copied my Arsenal treble up in attack! Great minds and all that.... I probably have the same about of personality as well. My initial plan was to phase the Arsenal midfield in but those preseason games swayed me. Unlike most I have gone for the Liverpool double defence and no Diaz. The Ward sub keeper pick is now one I have to consider .

It’s good to see how close this is to the team I picked. I had Perisic but after Contes comments I was going to switch to either James or Digne. Went for James. I’ve not gone for a premium striker, though. I just feel like midfield is much better value. Son is my pick, he’s on set pieces and will get the clean sheet bonus. So two mid tier forwards for me. Tempted to switch to Taylor though

One problem is this team doesn't have any money left in the bank so its unlikely you'll be moving to another 8.0 mid that gets hot in early weeks. Mount against Everton? Maddison against Brentford? Dias against Fulham? I can see all of those being 8.1 by Monday morning.

Triple Arsenal attack is a good idea, I wouldn't do it with a defensive player though. I would get rid of 2 by the International break when they have Spurs afterwards if I were to do it. Bournemouth & Fulham back to back is difficult to ignore, promoted teams normally struggle a lot till the International break

This is not far off my own team. I'm currently going Raya - Olsen tta-Canc-Robbo-trippier (N.Will) Salah-Saka-Neto-Martinelli (Andreas) Jesus-Kane (greenwood) I think Double Liverpool def with Raya is better than Ederson/james and single Liverpool def I think I'll steal the idea from this video and go with Digne and Ward rather than Trippier and olsen. Idon't see why Taylor is the 3rd bench over Greenwood. The least important spot but I think Greenwood has a bigger chance of getting subbed in. which equals atleast 1 point per match. I feel that if I don't run with Robbo as def, it's better to go Luis diaz as midfielder than Saka. But arsenal was dangerously good in attack this preseason. Feels like a good gamble to take

I do like Saka, but Martinelli will be rotation risk now with ESR near to be fit (already trained last week). When both fit, Martinelli started 4 of last 7 Arsenal games from last season. 2 of them he was subbed off early. Idk why people are asuming that Martinelli is nailed, when ESR is a good young talent too, with very good performances as a starter last season.

Declan Rice West Ham out in Leicester City's Dewsbury-Hall or Newcastle United's Almirón I got these differentials off another FPL site on you tube. And is Rodrigo a good option from leeds who is playing in Midfield. Sanchez and Ward a good Option from Ederson and Olsen.

I've been considering triple Arsenal attack for about a week. My plan is start with Diaz and switch to Saka in gw3. Allows you to get Diaz for a better gw1 and switch to Saka for slightly better gw3-8.

Trippier, imo. Zinchenko atm will be left back and in the friendly didn't seem to have much attacking potential. Not a bad pick by any means but I think I'd rather wait until he starts regularly in midfield.

I'm preferring to go with Sancho over an Arsenal triple up. Half a million saved, and, with another team's attack involved, you're spreading out your risk quite appealingly. If you have a triple up in attack with Arsenal and Arsenal blank, you're instantly relying too heavily on your captain pick to bail you out. Sancho is looking a good pick (slightly less owned than Saka as well) to help get your nose in front in the race early doors. You could go Rashford too but I think if you budget for Sancho then it's easier to switch him for Rashford if Rashford hits form than the other way round.

Haha I have the Arsenal triple up even before seeing this video. Sure there is a risk in it but considering their current form, it's hard to see Arsenal blanking in the first 6 gameweeks at least and these 3 are probably gonna be involved in almost all their goals.

Given that we have three wildcards this season, I might well go completely template at the start of the season and differentiate throughout the weeks after seeing who's in form and who's bad. It's boring, but for ranks I think it's the best strategy.

seeing this team is 50/50 depressing and exciting. I completed my squad a few days ago and it looks almost identical to this with only a few different players. I think I deleted my comment by accident. So according to fpl form this team comes out at 327.5 points over first 6 GWs. My team comes up at 364.5 points over first 6 GWs. Oscar/Focal, I'm curious what you think about fpl form since I think I learned about this tool from you. I've selected both Matip and Hwang in my draft, both highly ranked in the first 6 GWs and low cost, yet no one is talking about them?

If you are afraid of the Arsenal tripple up, you'd be better off with keeping Saka and swapping Martinelli for another player, maybe find the 0.5 and go to Rashford or down to a 5 mil player and keep the change for the coming weeks. Saka has been in insane form in preseason and guaranteed to start every game.

i can't believe I'm seeing an ai pick my dormer exact team including the bench ( excluding taylor, i had archer) but i felt tripple arsenal players is too risky to start the season with so i downgraded digne to Jonny and sold Martinelli for Rashford. that's my current team
