Joshua, you definitely should do more things like this. Things like flashing iNav to a quad, perhaps build a rc airplane with iNav, perhaps another with ArduPilot... (And you don't even need a Pixhawk for that, you can flash ArduCopter or ArduPlane to FC from Matek, SpeedyBee and so on.) That's for 2 reasons: to expand your horizons, but also because we love the videos! 😃 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

please do more ardupilot videos. btw, your drone behaved really sluggish in loiter and also in stabilize mode. usually you do a autotune asap. you can do it by enabling PosHold (mix between stabilize and loiter) and activate autotune. its really cool to see the magic happen as it starts twitching around by itself. its a pretty hard time at the beginning when you come from betaflight or inav, but its so damn rewarding. i built a flywoo explorer with ardupilot, really cool to see this small platform flying perfectly acro plus all the gps modes at the same time.

If you want to understand what pixhawk is in very simplistic terms... here you go. Pixhawk is to DJI like Android is to Apple. It can do everything DJI can do, just as good or better, with extra functionality, extra hack-ability, doesn't spy on you, and does it cheaper. The only drawback is you have to learn how to use it. Also, your accelerometer needs better calibration because you were wobbling all over the place when calibrating it. You can't just hold it with your hand like that. You must balance it against an object and be absolutely still for it to fly correctly. I've flown APM 2.8s that drifted less because they were calibrated better. You can do a lot with the pixhawks. Drones? Yep. Airplanes? Yep. Helicopters? Yep. RC cars? Yep. Rovers? Yep. Boats? Yep. Submarines? Yep.
@tymoteuszkazubski2755
@tymoteuszkazubski2755 5 месяцев назад
For those uninitiated APM2.8 stopped being supported over 8 years ago and runs on ATmega 2560, 8 bit CPU
@vhfgamer
@vhfgamer 5 месяцев назад
@@tymoteuszkazubski2755 Yep! You got it! So it's pretty sad when a brand new pixhawk is so badly calibrated that if wanders around more than the massively outdated APM. I remember the early days of the pixhawk when a bad calibration would send the drone rocketing into the ceiling. Right into a fire sprinkler nozzle. Ask me how I know.....

Pixhawk is actually the standard board layout of the FC. PX4 & Ardupilot are the firmwares that run on the FC and Qground control & mission planner are config & flight management softwares. The reason the Quad kept drifting was because you did not calibrate the compass in the video.

To give a perspective on what these can do, here is the mission for our pixhawk plane; Takeoff, go to a predetermined area, find the red spot and save its coordinates. add it to the waypoint list for the next lap, go around the parkour, drop a ball in a way that it will hit the red area, do it again, and finally land on the runway. It does these things all by itself, but calibrating and configuring the control system is a pain in the butt.

My very first Drone was a Tarrot 680Pro with a Pixhawk FC.... just fancied the challenge of assembling such a thing. Assembly went well as did installing all the electronics which at that time required some soldering. I then got it professionally set up using ardupilot and Mission planer as i hadn't a clue how to do it. Well about 15yrs on it still flying great... albeit not that often and it's never been crashed just a few hard landings without damage... So reliability has been exceptional. Its great that your doing something "different" from the norm... Which i found really enjoyable and took me back 15yrs. Thank you.

I had a pixhawk setup on a large quad port with a parachute, I had a motor failure and the pixhawk calculated an uncontrolled decent as it’s supposed to and automatically deployed the chute…worked perfectly. I also ran redundant gpa sensors for blending as well. Absolutely fantastic. Flight controller. The ardupilot firmware and hardware really were the pioneers of the flight controller world…years and years ago.

This is a post of despair!! I have two Pixhawk Cube and CUAV 5+. After 5 years of use, I was convinced that PX4 & Ardupilot is the worst system! Many dozens of updates have been released and almost nothing changes, constant errors and a drone crash. I could have assumed that the problem was with the flight controller, but I used three new ones! ! Out of curiosity, I bought a flight controller - a Boeing Paladin..... AND A MIRACLE HAPPENED !!! I didn't even know that such stable systems existed. Flight readiness occurs 5 seconds after the battery is connected, positioning accuracy is 2-3 cm. Flight stability is excellent

This was fun! I loved watching you learn Ardupilot. Brought back memories of me going through the same thing about 10 years ago, which is why I enjoyed it so much. Autonomous drones are definitely a different world. I struggled a little bit making the switch the other way to racing drones. I still wish Ardu had proper support for CSRF and ELRS as being able to ditch the extra telemetry gear would be nice. Anyway, welcome to the dark side! Enjoy!

GREAT Ardu journey! My very first drone had a Pixhawk FC running Ardu and it was very good at what it did. And the Alta X uses FreeFly's version of PX4 so my experience came in handy when we started flying those. Put it in Acro if you want that full control. It is a rate mode with no GPS and no barometer. And, there is RTK available for PX4 and Ardu. People have actually flown the Alta X in Acro mode!

I just put together the same Holybro from about a month ago. I have gotten the expresslrs radiomastef rp3 working on the drone with the PX4 firmware. It was a difficult endeavor as I am new to the hobby. One needs to recompile the firmware on a Linux computer with the expresslrs module linked in (steep learning curve). I also found it was possible to connect the control input through the s.bus input with the elrs receiver in s.bus mode. The problem with that is there did not seem to be any way to get telemetry back to the radio. At least I couldn't find a way.

Supper happy to see JB tipping his toes in the world of Ardupilot and DroneCode Firmware. My entire quads and planes run Ardupilot firmware and I use Mission Planner to configure and mission plan. The reason I don’t use QGroundControl is because parameter mapping is not 1-to-1 if you are running Ardupilot Firmware. So be careful @JB. Few tips: 1. Perform compass, and FC calibration before installing the FC and GPS on the aircraft. 2. You can use Mavlink protocol or FrSky Fport protocols for both telemetry and radio control. I use TBS crossfire with Mavlink protocol and I run Yaapu Lua script on my colorful TX16 radio. Supper sexy! 3. If your quad is still drifting in Loiter mode, use Autotune mode in a large field (away from trees). Welcome to the dark side Mr. Bardwell. Several years ago, I had asked you to pickup Ardupilot content since there are very few on RU-vid besides MadTech and Painless360.

Program a flight path around the property and chase one drone with another drone. Use photogrammetry software to render a 3d map of the area. Optimize for loiter time, then carry a gate that you do as many power loops through as you can before the robot lands. Install an optical range finder to hover a precise distance over your roof, then use the prop wash to blast leaves off the house.

Hello, I hope you have a good day. I think the work you do is spectacular and I would like to express my interest in a series of videos exploring Ardupilot for drones or even airplanes. Good luck if you decide to embark on such a series.
