I recently bought a sabrent USB capture device and decided to give this a try because I could. the chipset my USB device uses is the STK1160 (Sabrent model USB-AVCPT) the drivers are available with a quick search but the Android Easy Cap app recognized it right away. using my LG G4 it works great, and is a great salvaged FPV solution with my old G2. Thanks, Andy!
Thank you very much for this great video. It's very helpful and saved me an awful amount of money. Had two tablets doing nothing but getting dust now they are part of my fpv equipment. Thank you so so much.
Thank you so much. This is exactly what I was looking for. Wanted to do a ride along fpv screen without buying another, then you go and show the possibilities of DVR as well. Thank you for exhausting your time and energy to working all this out. Very appreciated
Nerys for me it was about seeing what was possible with the technology we have. however people are using their phone for all kimds of different fpv applications. for example some auto pilot software requires a pc link to ground station software. many people are using separate fpv devices. with the easy cap device it can all be done on your pc and now tablet/phone :-)
Thank you so much for that video, I have been trying to connect my backup camera but I had a hard time, now I now what app to use and already found it.
Thanks, this video was the first result when googling "smartphone fpv" and it made my day- I've already have a compatible smartphone and an easycap I was using for raspberry pi ambilight. Now I only have to wait until my google cardboard lenses arrive :D
Thanks for taking the time to verify the compatible chipsets. My device is branded as the Kworld USB2800d and unfortunately uses the EMPIA EM2860 device which isn't compatible. For the sake of £3 for the APP I tried it anyway only to be told that no suitable device was found. Not to worry a compatible device is relatively cheap, certainly cheaper than the added expense of a dedicated FPV monitor and DVR, so one will be ordered. Regards Nidge
A bit disappointing but not a game stopper. It works fine on the PC in APM Mission Planner, using the receiver in my FS Attitudes, and I've already secured an Android compatible device, thanks to your chipset recommendations. Regards Nidge
Thanks for this. Works a treat. Not tried it in the field yet, but hopefully will make a nice second screen so others can watch whilst I wear the Fatsharks.
There is already some interesting test at 9:15, i downloaded the video and checked it frame by frame in VLC, when the change on the phone display happens. I got about 3-4 frames delay, so thats 100-133ms latency (30fps/33ms).
I have an EasyCAP based on Empia chip and a laptop running Arch Linux. I tried to use it for my FPV gear just today, I'm getting latency around 200-300ms (analyzing recorded video frame-by-frame). Long story short, it was too 'drunk' to be usable, and I had to maintain line of sight with my quad anyways, since I'm a noob that had his 3rd succesful flight on this quad today at all :)
wow man.. this is great video..this is just what i need. i was just looking for the way to connect my fpv to smartphone and so i could record it. thanks
+AndyRC can it be used only with easycap application are there any other android application that may support this device for fpv? so that webcam application also works well?
Someone may have mentioned this but if you're running Android 7.0 ot higher you can switch on "gamemode" and record what's on your cellphone. It's built in under "performance mode" in cellphone settings
its a great idea for a passenger seat while doing fpv , i probably wont use it as my main fpv screen cos of laintacy and blue screen ( if it blue screen) ... but soon these will be our fpv goggle for sure :) nice find mate well done !!!!
i just ordered one of these for another reason. i hope mine will be the right version. waiting for it to get here. but none the less i just wanted this to record video.. stumble onto this video and was like bonus! thanks for the video.
+AndyRC hi andy, well i took this apart and looks like i do not have the right one.. sigh. this is what it says: HTV600 A187286.1 1512L1BK 1 there is one place on the PCB that says UTV007-v1.0-OVERFLY printed in white letters next to the cables coming out by soldering pad J2 right under it. then the only other number i could read was by the USB metal plug, the metal pill shape part, it just says 12000. i guess i could try ordering another one of these off ebay for 5.00, the sellers have no clue what chip they use. now im not sure if i was reading the right spot.. if it was on the PCB then looks like i would.. but i pretty sure you meant the chip.
+AndyRC naw i did not feel like spending 6.00 to test it. i see your PCB does not have the white print "UTV007-V1.0-OVERFLY" i will probably search around the store and see if there are some free options or trials. if i knew it was gonna work id spend the 6.00 thanks for the video anyhow.
Thank a million for that video ! Smartphones screens are so much better than common 7 inch monitors... Have you found an FPV camera which provides a great image on common smartphones ?
+AndyRC aaaaand... It Works! Both on windows 10 and android! Really nice option to use as a DVR, also a very cheap FPV setup I can use until I can afford a pair of goggles, thanks man!
Hi Andy! great video. it helped me to make use of my easycap rather than lying around unused. mine is a cheap one comes with HTV600 chip. Easycap Viewer able to recognize it either selecting UTV007 or STK1160 in the software
It would be really awesome if you could provide the exact names and schematics. For example, I don't know what camera did you use on the drone. So the schematics and parts list would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance, I am a big fan
Shouldn't be difficult to adapt one of these by removing the A/V wires and connecting a little 5.8ghz receiver board directly to the video and power connections.
This is great, I have been working on a project for ground vehicle FPV. I've considered using a 10" Windows 8 Tablet as my monitor screen. I wear glasses so goggles will be an issue, though I believe Google Cardboard does work with them. My current Android phones don't support OTG, but my next one will.
i have small HP laptop with windows7 . bought an easycap. my question is how can I run this full screen instead of the small capture screen in the software..... Great Video !!
AndyRC You are Very Welcome. I ment it. You are good at this. Your voise is good and you bring everything together and make it easy to understand. AND :) I actially Learned from this Video :)Good Luck with what ever you do Bro :)
This is a great way to fpv. I wanna use my 10" tab s with a hood with no wires mounted on my transmitter. But damn that is soo much harder than a monitor.
ANDY.....thanks so much.. have been watching for a while ..ive learned so much.. started the hobby about 8 mnths ago..went from buying to building about three mnths onto it after finding youre channel... i bought the et 100 frame after watching youre review,, can i put any fc board in that .. need a lil help with fc and motor sise if you could help .. it will be my first brushless build...thanks man
Thanks Andy, this is great! Can't wait to use this setup on my Nexus 7, it will be great for when I don't have access to my laptop (which I use with my EasyCap as of now). I'm glad those OTG cables are cheap too, it's the only thing I'm missing. P.S. I think you meant UTV007, not UTV008, in the description.
AndyRC Just received the adapter I ordered from BangGood and it works great on my phone and tablet! Definitely worth the $1 for the cable and $5 for the app. Thanks for this, Andy, it's much better than buying a $200 screen!
I believe the video signal from your drone is analog correct? I have a 5G Wi-Fi drone and my smartphone picks up the signal without your hack. I have a lot of latency though wondering how I can reduce that with a 5G Wi-Fi drone.
Thanks for sharing this, now if there is a way to get this to work with Google cardboard, and not have to destroy the headset, if any developments using UNITY or something similar could be worked out that would be fantastic, also use a Bluetooth handset like a PS3 controller to start and stop the screen recording
Hello Andy ! Thank you for your bright brilliant video. It definitely helps me through my initiation to fpv. I bought an Rtg01 otg for receiving fpv video from my tx03. I will use my tablet nexus 7. Do you think it could work with a fresnel lens ? I mean, I would like to build a diy goggles with otg+tablet+fresnel lens. Is there really a difference between lcd screen and my tablet screen ?
+AndyRC I am also using this www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__70387__FR632_Diversity_5_8GHz_32Ch_Auto_Scan_LCD_A_V_Receiver_AR_Warehouse_.html?strSearch=fr632
Hey brotha, I'm using the utv007 chip set and I'm having no luck. The app has progressively changing and your fix doesn't work anymore. Do you have any advice, maybe a different app that works? Thanx so much, your awesome for taking the time to make this video.
An idea... I have a small endoscope camera for an android phone. I plug the camera into the phone and the camera app automatically starts and shows the live video. Could I replace camera of the "endoscope camera" with the video signal that is coming from the fpv quadcopter's receiver and send it to the phone? Would that also allow me to fly an fpv quadcopter by looking at the smartphone? :)
+furulevi Screen recording on the smartphone is also available, the phone's battery could last longer, the screen might be brighter, the resolution higher, the phone weighs less than the fpv monitor... :)
Hi AndyRC Great video! I have been looking for information on how to build a fpv system. The purpose of this system will be to be able to see 6 mm holes in a paper that is going to be located about 300 yds away. I would like to see the video and pictures in my phone. Could you recommend me what kind of items (camera, transmitter, receiver etc) would I need. I am totally new to this topic and would benefit from your help. Thanks
Great video! is it possible to connect something like a Wii, and plug the RCA (Red, Yellow, and White cables) to my android phone through adapters and stuff? please help. Thanks!
Does the app have a record function? Apologies if you mentioned it, I was not able to see the whole 17 minutes. Not concerned about actual FPV use since I have googles for that, but would be interested in recording from this device if possible to compare against my DVR.
That is your launcher crashing, not the program. Just download a different launcher and you are fine. Your provider included that launcher in the OS update.
Sorry if this was asked before. BUt I want to replace my fatshark goggles with this setup using the goggle video you also released. What exactly do I need to do this ? 1: Plastic casing, Fresno lens. 2: EasyCap device 3: what do you use for the receiver ? and can I use the same antennae i bought for my fatshark on it ?
Mike Hoogstraat if you plan on using the cardboard view u dont need the lens. for the receiver u can use any thats compatible with the frequency u are using, im guessing 5.8g?
Can you please give link for the connector widgets used to connect the cables to the recording unit. Why on earth aren’t they male connectors to begin with?
Thank you for the video! I picked up the "Easier Cap" from Banggood which is apparently a clone, so hopefully it'll work with this app. The question I have is does the app allow you to double up the screen to be used on Google cardboard? Google cardboard requires two images side by side to function correctly.
I'm having a weird issue. I will plug the USB into my phone and all is well. everything works.... for like an 10 seconds until it just crashes. the app will just closes. I don't get a signal loss message or error but the app just closes. any ideas
Hello Andy, Is there an option in the app that you can use your phone in a VR box? Then can I moderate the the VR box as fpv goggles. Would be great! :)
hi Andy good vid. there are tons of these on the market can you post a link to where you purchased this please. as I can't be sure what version I'm getting. thanks.
+Thulfiqar Ali 5 negative feedbacks in 3 months isn't good it's terrible I have 100% positive in 5 years. That's good. and why say the seller is good when the seller is you. Nothing like bigin up yourself.
Hey, this tricks is incredible. really. i buy one, the chip inside is not the same, me i have HTV600 but work really well. i will make a good video fpv with this for only 20€..
