I tried to google and found out that St. Jude's mother was a cousin of the Virgin Mary and St. Jude's father was the brother of St Joseph, husband of the Virgin Mary.

True. But look at it this way. In a parent - child relationship. You go to your father, as a child, and ask for something. Your father thinks about it but no answer yet. You tell your friend, who is a very good person that your father likes very much, to please ask your father for your request also. Your friend goes to your father on your behalf and puts in the same petition. Your father decides to grant your request...you now have great appreciation of your father and now your friendship with your friend is even closer. This is how asking the saints to pray for you works. Except it's a bond between family and friends between heaven and earth, so it's even better than earthly relationships.

We are directed to pray for each other. Stop ignoring Scripture. Were your mistaken view true, we wouldn't be directed to pray for each other and indeed there would be no need to join the Church founded by Christ, nor to observe its precepts. Just say a name, right?
