This video preview introduces the concept of different levels of pedalling and the technique of "flutter" or fractional pedalling using a "damper cam" to provide a close-up view of the damper action. The full video is available on the Practising the Piano Online Academy at: goo.gl/bPCPmr

So glad to see you're starting to upload videos on a personal channel as well! I've been following your activity on Pianist Magazine for quite a long time and found your accurate tips extremely helpful. I'm an organist trying to perfect my piano technique and sensibility: these short lessons are so useful to me! Thank you very much for your fantastic educational project.

yeessssss. This. The G minor Ballade. Never noticed the spectrum of pedaling demanded. So interesting!

This is an interesting and useful example, and I enjoyed the history lesson. But pedaling seems to be very much a matter of taste. Zimerman plays this passage with utmost clarity and very moderate use of the sustain pedal. Horowitz can be seen on RU-vid pedaling every eighth note. Lang Lang makes heavy use of the sustain pedal, and the low notes at the start can be heard throughout the passage. Take your pick!

Thanks for your comments, Bob. Totally agree - pedalling, like so much else in piano playing, is a personal matter, depending on the instrument and the acoustics of the space as well as good taste.
