This is an interesting and useful example, and I enjoyed the history lesson. But pedaling seems to be very much a matter of taste. Zimerman plays this passage with utmost clarity and very moderate use of the sustain pedal. Horowitz can be seen on RU-vid pedaling every eighth note. Lang Lang makes heavy use of the sustain pedal, and the low notes at the start can be heard throughout the passage. Take your pick!
