I have some of those, and they are great. The Tele split blade ones are great as well, as are their Split Steel Pole p90-flavored Tele and Strat pickups.
I first came across Lindey Fralin pickups a couple of years ago. I get a recommendation from a local guitar builder. I called LF and left a message. Lindy himself called me back the next day. I was so impressed about the customer service. I ordered a set of the stock P90 pickups. I love them. They're in a goldtop LP I built. The pickups are the most diverse set I've ever played.
I've had a standard wound set in a Les Paul for a couple years and couldn't be happier. Very clear, powerful and expressive. The only other contender for a noiseless P90 is Kinman, and to my ear the Fralins are closer to the true P90 sound. Rock on!
I have a PRS with three P90s, and swapped in Fralins - the standard Bridge pickup, a 5% underwound Neck pickup, and their Alnico model in the middle for the little extra Fender-y quality on the 2 and 4 positions on the 5-way switch. I also swapped in the PRS Custom24 5-way switch to get more options on the switch wiring. I added a 4p2t special on-on-on toggle switch to swap out the middle position on the 5-way from Middle to Neck+Bridge to Neck+Bridge half-out-of-phase. What an absolutely amazing setup. Bridge and Neck sound fantastic individually - warm and full lows and mids, with that balanced, stiff P90 treble response that you would expect. The middle Alnico sounds great - crisp and full with wonderfully detailed and delicate highs. It'd make a FANTASTIC Neck position pickup for the "Staple" P90 vibe. The Neck+Bridge together gives the typical P90 Les Paul vibe, and the half-out-of-phase gives you the midrangey snark without totally losing the low end....
@@blazeofglory1982 They're great sounding pickups. As advertised, in the middle ground between Fender single coil and P90, having the more delicate, sparkly, and detailed top end of the Fender combined with the full sound in the mids and lows coming from the P90-style coil.
"I don't usually use the neck pickup with distortion." Proceeds to play the most pleasing tone of the video, lol. You should roll back that tone knob a li'l bit and try it again.
Which Fralin P90 do you suggest for my 2019 Les paul Jr? I am also doing a 50s Emerson wiring kit with CTS pots and paper oil capacitors and a Kluson tailpiece Aluminum upgrade?
@@blazeofglory1982 I have a explorer with 3 humbuckers and I flipped the middle magnet to make it out of phase with the neck and bridge and I installed a 6 way toggle that looks stock its awesome... when you can't afford a custom shop black beauty you make do with what you got. so I've always wanted a 56 p90 gold top but can't afford one at the moment but you don't ever see a p90 explorer... I was thinking of putting the p92's in it but that's too easy lol I could route a little and make custom pickup rings to install soap bar p90's and it be my own 🤙
I still don't understand the difference between hum cancelling and noiseless? He offers 3 versions. Standard, hum cancelling, and noiseless. Thanks for the demo.
Loved the tones you were getting out of the distortion. I have a 2011 Gibson Melody Maker with 1 single coil stock pickup and it’s OK but I love the P90 sound so I just bought a Lollar Melody Maker P90. However, I was thinking of getting Fralin Hum Canceling P90 as well. Since my pups are attached to the pickguard I want the option to swap out pickups/guards. When ordering from Fralin did you get the “Stock" Bridge Output option or the 5% over or under-wind?
Those sounds amazing, I am considering the Fralin P90 humbucker size P90s,, but not sure if I should get the true P90s, or the humbucker P90 noise canceling.. these will be going in my PRS SE 35th anniversary. Thanks for posting. The noiseless do sounds pretty good though.
I have a humbucker size P90 Fralin noiseless pup in my Epi les paul and love it. They are the best company to deal with, so nice and helpful. Put a set of blues special noiseless Fralins in a tele build I did and Lindy himself talked me through some issues I had installing them. Wonderful company can’t say enough good things about them.
Damn those sound great in your Les I mean great blues tone kind of Lucille sounding. Now my sad story lol I bought a set of those same pups couple years ago on sale somewhere and stuck them in my collection of parts till I found the right guitar. Well just so happens The Stratosphere folks had a Les Paul Special body all stripped down and waiting just for me. The only one I've ever seen them have. Since I had just bought (from them also) and built a Les Paul Studio with new parts I was holding , the Special looked like a good next project Well the first thing I did when I got the Special and got it all unpacked was to put the Fralins in and somehow got a mounting screw going in crooked and screwed it right in to a coil in the neck P.U. before I knew I F......D up! AGH!!!!!!. Well there was my excuse to try a mini humbucker in the neck. Well I just got it all together and working last night and the mini sounds great but I'm going to try the Fralin I screwed up and see if it still works and go from there. If I can get it all to sound anything like yours and if it sounds good with a slide also I might have a keeper. We'll see and maybe I'll post a vid I'll let you know. @@blazeofglory1982 yea I'm really liking what tone I'm getting from the mini HB from Mojotone who makes great stuff and a noiseless P90 in the bridge made by Dimazio thats really more of a humbucker soapbar. They just really have a great slide sound in this LP special. Definetly going to put the Fralins to work in something as I have many guitars (too many) eventually as I' m always experimenting. They may end up in a mim Tele that has a swimming pool route so don't think I'll have to do any cut and grind there and I picked up a double soapbar pickguard for it ages ago. Loooove chasin that tone !!!! Ha Ha To dame old to chase woman anymore. Actually the woman my age are to damn old to run. lol
You were saying about the versatility of the pickups. I’d have loved to hear even some faux-country clean tone and faux-jazz clean tone examples in all relevant pickup positions to demonstrate that versatility. We know they sound good in low gain bluesy playing. You clearly demonstrated that beyond question. But that versatility you mentioned… Good low gain blues demo in any event.
