This will put a spring in your step, especially when you have had a hoop drum hanging on your wall and never knew the possibilities of expression available. WOW! As a long time drummer that's almost unforgivable! Laughs! Many thanks, and blessings!

@@kenshorley I have Remo 16 inch frame drum with fiberskin head! What would be a step up in tone? Maybe a real goat skin head? Not to pricey. Is meinl a good brand? I found a 16 inch on Amazon for $69. Thanks!

Hi. Yes, I think Meinl is a good brand.

This is a workout. Been playing drums & percussion for almost 50 years and I couldn't make my arm do this at first. Took a couple weeks to get up to Ken's speed and even now I'm working on stamina. If I do that "D T kt tk" rhythm much longer than 30 minutes, my forearm needs an R&R break for a few hours. This technique is no joke.

Hi. I'm glad you're enjoying these exercises. It's really important not to overdo it though! I would recommend only playing any of these exercises for 2-3 minutes before resting. You said you're doing 30 minutes or more on one pattern? That's too much! Give yourself time to build up strength and stamina.
@mishterpreshident

@@kenshorley Haha, well I probably overdid it a bit but my stamina is pretty good thanks to years of playing other drums. I've been practicing on a rammana (tiny Thai frame drum), and for whatever reason, I can play a long time on that drum before I wear out.

Ken your lessons are the best even for me russian speaking guy, I prefer your videos over videos in my native language, you just make it right and so easy to understand. Could you pls help me , I have few questions : 1. how different technics playing frame drum from tombak drum, I see some similarities in snaps? 2. Which diameter of cooperman frame drum would you recommend to play with other instruments medium to high speed rhythms? 3. Which skin is better more responsive goat or remo? Thank you!
@kenshorley
@kenshorley 2 года назад
Thanks so much for the kind words! I'm glad you are finding the videos useful! To answer your questions - yes, many frame drummers have borrowed snapping techniques from other drums such as the tonbak. I would recommend a 16" Cooperman tar as a good starting point, and I love the responsiveness of the Renaissance synthetic head.
@user-mishasmp
@user-mishasmp 2 года назад
@@kenshorley thank you for the answer. what do you think about 14 in Tar , is it harder to play then 16 , cause I was thinking that smaller size is for faster playing .
