Hey there KenBo. I was looking to build a spline jig and knew you would have a plan. Love the handle! Been watching you for some time now. Keep the fine craftsmanship coming our way.
Catching up on some oldies KW! I really like the simplicity of this jig! I just got a new table saw, and I’ll be adding one of these to my bag of tricks! Wow! The shop didn’t look as “busy” in 2013! You’ve made a lot of upgrades since then! I always enjoy your projects, regardless of the age! Thanks!
Glad that you enjoyed the show Tom. This spline jig has been reinvented and remade for the show on a later episode. Thanks for tuning in and taking the time to leave a comment. It's very much appreciated.
Very nice jig, Kenny. I made almost the identical jig (without the push handle) a couple of years ago and I use in so often that I always keep it close at hand. Very well presented video. I'm subbed.
Glad to have you aboard as a subscriber Terry. There is a ton of content here on the show and depending on what you are in to, there is something for everyone. Thanks for taking the time to leave me a comment and for tuning in to the show. It's appreciated.
Glad that you like the project Raymond. It really does come in handy when you are making picture frames and boxes. A very safe way to cut the splines without worrying about losing a finger. LOL. Thanks for tuning in to the show. It's appreciated.
Very nice project. Mater of fact i just got done making 8 frames for Christmas and i was thinking of doing splines so i started making a jig and messed it all up. How you ask? Well its late evening and in a rush so i can get in the house to spend some time with the wife before she heads to bed. Never fails. Lol well yours is the one i would like to build if you don't mind? Very informative video and you have a new subscribers. Thanks jeff Aka woodsconsin on Facebook woodconsin on RU-vid . Happy holidays
Glad to have you aboard Jeff. Be my guest to make one of the jigs. That is the whole purpose of making my videos. If it will help someone along the way, then by all means, let it help someone. Good luck on your jig and feel free to ask any questions along the way. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Ken
Great video. Others videos I have watched have the 45’s clearing the bottom of the blade for the majority of frame sizes. Your jig will get chewed up at the base right? Since I have not made a jig as yet would love to incorporate the best of the few Videos I have watched. Love the handle and fit over the stop.
Well, in answer to your question Karen, yes, and no. The bottom of the jig does get cut up with you run your frames through it but for the most part, we only make a certain thickness of frame, so once the initial splines are cut, in most cases, we can set the saw back up in the same position to have the blade run through the kerf it has already cut in the jig. I've had this jig for years and it's still going, regardless of how many times my saw blade has passed through the base of the jig. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in and taking the time to leave the kind words. I truly appreciate it.
I used a saw handle from a saw my dad had and it worked very good for a template.I have another question, The back board that you marked a line on at the top of the 2" board, did you cut the 8" board down and then attach the handle?
No. After I marked to line to show me the top of the 2" board, I marked the handle above that line and then used the scroll saw to cut the handle shape out of the full piece of plywood. If you don't have a scroll saw, you can use a jig saw or a coping saw if you like.
Truth be told Jim, all I did was trace the handle of one of my hand saws onto 1/8" hard board. From there, I cut it out on the scroll saw and used it as a template for this project. It doesn't get any easier than that. Thanks for asking the question.
