FRAMING AN UNEVEN SCREENED PORCH | Back Porch DIY Reno: Episode 6

The back porch on my parents' new home was built on uneven pavers... so screening it in has proven to be tricky! But with a little extra planning and LOTS of math, I think I've made it work. In addition to framing out the entire porch for screens, I also designed and incorporated a Craftsman design to match the style of this 1915 home.

This is the kind of project I would start and then realize how annoying it is going to be, so i give up. I admire your tenacity!

Sometimes it helps to keep running the drill as you back it out. My wall has taken many a bit hostage.

Even though the doors likely don't weight a lot, I would still put an angled cross brace in the top empty section of the door. From the middle on the hinge side to the top corner on the latch side.

It looks good, very nice design - original and large enough so it's not crowded.

My mom has always wanted to screen in their porch but here they are about to retire and move out of the city 🤷🏼‍♀️ I plan to buy the house off of them and it is my mission to screen that porch! Thank you for the ideas!

Great job, love your videos. As a keen DIY’er myself, can I suggest that you bend your knees and not back because it will cause issues in the long run, sorry to be familiar 😊

I am halfway through the video, and I noticed that you did not sweep up the debris first. Are some of those boards laid on top of old leaves etc. That won't be a tight fit at floor.

Rigid debris like sticks were moved out of the way. A few thin dead leaves may have stuck under, but that shouldn't compromise the fit.

Cedar is also hella expensive, so pine is a great choice! And I mean, you could treat cedar with chemical shenanigans... but why would you, when you got that treated pine for at least half the price. By the way, if you try pulling the drill while it's still spinning, it's much easier, and the bit won't break. Plus, you can ask for a drill with reverse function, so you get in and out like it's a piece of cake. Hope it'll be useful later on whenever you decide to use one again 😅

I’d take up the stones and add more dirt and sand or something to level it out. That or I’d add concrete and level it all out

I cant wait to see the screening installed. It appears that some sections are bigger than 4ft. It just doesnt compute in my head.

I have a small screened in back stoop. We have found that a secondary removable framed screen gives a lot more stability. My parents have a patio that birds fly into and are constantly busting it out due to the larger panel without reinforcement.
