This piece, composed by the great François Couperin (10 November 1668 - 11 September 1733), is quite possibly my most favourite of all of Couperin's keyboard works. I have loved it immensely since the first time I heard it (played by Alan Cuckston, whose version of it remains my favourite). I've modified the piece a little bit by repeating some measures that I particularly like and altering some ornaments (which I struggle with). I love Couperin's keyboard works and would really like to get better at playing his music.
Played on the sample set for a copy of an 18th century harpsichord built by Pascal-Joseph Taskin (27 July 1723 - 9 February 1793), a Belgium-born French harpsichord maker. Taskin apprenticed with, and eventually was successor to, the Blanchet workshop, whereupon he inherited Blanchet's title of royal harpsichord maker (facteur des clavessins du Roi) and additionally became keeper of the king’s instruments. Taskin harpsichords, at least to my amateur ears, have the most wonderfully rich and resonant tone. I love their sound. Sample set by Sonimusicae.
The sheet music for Couperin's harpsichord works is freely available on IMSLP.org.
