Fran finds herself stuck between being the nanny and Maxwell's wife.
From Season 6 Episode 3, 'Once A Secretary, Always A Secretary'. Fran is torn between being the nanny and adapting to her new role as Maxwell's wife. To resolve this, she hires a nanny. Meanwhile, Brighton really wants to go to Atlantic City but his father is against it!

I still scratch my head on why people switched off after they got together because as proof here they knew how to still make it interesting showing them trying to slip from employer/employee to husband and wife and how she's trying to work out what does she do now that she's not technically the nanny anymore eventhough there's still a kid in the house. So there's lots of things they could do with it and still make it hilarious like they did here. Especially when she slipped into Sylvia with Maggie getting married etc. Wish we got another season or 2

True, but sadly at the time, the audience only saw the will-they/won't-they aspect of the show and missed out on its true brilliance.

Normal people are weird. For some reason, once the will they/won't they question is answered with "they will" then they immediately lose interest in the relationship between the two characters and that's when the show begins to die. Just because the thrill of the chase is over doesn't mean that there aren't any more chases that are just as thrilling.

I think there were two big factors in declining viewership: The resolution of the "Will they or won't they?" storyline, and the name, premise and theme song of the show. If the title had been "Fran and the Sheffields", I think more viewers would have continued to watch. As it is, if Nanny Bauer had worked out beyond one episode, that would have been even MORE confusing with the title "The Nanny".

When one see's and hear's Fran in serious interviews (well at least half serious 😂) it becomes so obvious how intelligent she really is and why she was so successful. What a shame that good comedy doesn't exsit anymore.

From a low class perspective, upper-upper-middle class fun is boring, and for upper/upper-middle class low class fun is boring (or sometimes stupid). What we consider “fun” isn’t something universal and is dictated by our upbringing, environment, social circles and interests...🤷🏻‍♀️

Part of me always wished that this bit was done before they got married (maybe season 4ish when he was still "struggling" with his feelings). I loved that new nanny pointed out Fran was more like a wife! Still hilarious and still has my heart!

Not enjoying the implication that Maxwell’s first wife was a bit of a drunk,seeing as everyone at the club was necking drinks like spring break. No one else was play croquet or grooming the horses and none of the children ride, telling me that she probably wasn’t a fan of the horses either. Poor Sarah, y’all didn’t need to do her dirty like this.

I think the writer messed up Sarah's storyline. The children were quite young when Sarah died, so she must had been taking care of the children instead of going to the country club.
