In this edition, we're looking at one of the key consequences of climate change: drought. From parched fields, to burning forests, to houses cracking as the ground beneath them dries up, droughts are becoming more frequent in France and around the world. As scientists look for solutions, many are calling for changes to our agricultural model and the way we consume, in the hope of conserving Earth's most precious resource: water.

Also like what's happening in the Himalayas and the Alps. It's really depressing to consider the eventuality of no glaciers and no water for all that farmland and all the people. Scary times.

They need to farm design, the whole south europe needs this - redraw farms and techniques with permaculture principles and watter storage processes, mulch (a lot of it). This is doable but intensive cash crops and agro lobby (monsanto and company) are preventing the evidant clear solution.

Couldn't agree more! Thankyou for your thoughtful comment. I like how you emphasized mulching! As a gardener I understand the importance of this practice. Also underground water storage tanks is perfect for these draught-stricken zones. 👍

Good report. I especially like the interview with Florence Habets. Very nuanced and intelligent, not shying away from inconvenient truth. Sadly, most of us still hope for easy solutions. But there is no silver bullet. We have to produce and consume much less. As seen in invisible water.

People don't realize how dialed-in we have made crops. They are manipulated for highest production but require exact conditions. A late frost, a dry spell at the wrong time, and everything collapses. In reality, the way we have manipulated the genetics of our crops makes it impossible for us to deal with climate change. A few decades ago we used strawberries that produced for almost 4 months and survived abnormal weather. Now we grow strawberries that need to be harvested at 5 weeks, or there is 30% loss. There are two problems, first is obviously the effects of climate change, but second is big Ag has gone too far and now everyone is growing the wrong type of crops for climate change.

We are either getting hot weeks followed by a return to cold weeks or hot daytime temperatures followed by cold nights. We had frosts in Wales in July this year, down to 8C overnight last week. I remember the drought of 76 when I could walk on the riverbeds, the last drought forced staff to transfer fish from reservoirs by helicopter to safer places. This man made/ carbon narrative is being used to exploit the naivety of the young. Climate is constantly changing and it is primarily driven by the sun. We exhale carbon dioxide, plants absorb carbon dioxide and generate oxygen. GLobalists are steering the narrative to shape their own agenda.

I always wondered why they can't extract all the fresh water from rivers as they near the sea, this would not deplete the river and would supply enormous quantities of debatably clean water. This could be stored in huge closed plastic recycled tanks.
@divx1001
@divx1001 Год назад
Are you sure it won't deplete the river? I'm not an expert but there definitely is a replenishment period, so we can't be extracting that water continuously. Other than that I'm surprised our agriculture is so behind on technology. There's not that many countries that have invested in infrastructure for rain water collection, desalination plants and/or any other water conservation technologies.
@patricksmith4424
@patricksmith4424 Год назад
@@divx1001 thinking about what you said you may have a point. My logic is that when the river meets the sea it has run its course so all that water is going to become sea water. As sea level is the lowest point on the river. Then no matter how much fresh water is taken out then, the volume and course of the river would be unaffected. Of the depth of the river it self, maybe would effect it at that point. Water extraction from rivers effects the river beyond the extraction point and not before, I think!
