I do agree with the whole "good players raise the stats" argument as we've seen this happen with tanks like the jumbo 76 and others. However, I also think part of the reason (especially recently) is map design. This thing is perfectly suited to small urban maps where its mobility is amazing, gun in reliable and reload means you can engage multiple targets at once. Because we constantly see maps like Rhine, Japan, American Desert, etc. This thing excels while a tank like a tiger 2 or any other long range vehicle has less advantage. Overall they need to switch the philosophy from balancing based on stats to instead improving things like maps to make them more playable for all types of vehicles.

m36 shell at 8.0 against t54's has to be the funniest joke of the year yet, and the fact that the turm3 is basically a better french tank with a stab just one bracket higher is just the cherry on the top

Remember that Gajin puts this tank from 1952 at the same BR as the K9 Thunder, that entered service in 1999 and have LRF and thermals

I have it - it plays exactly like the AMX M4, which is at 6.7 (soon 7.0....) with a bit more penetration. And still no APHE, APDS, Heat, etc. It is a solidly good vehicle, but in no reasonable world does it deserve to be 8.0 where it can face 9.0 tanks that have fully stabilized guns, APFSDS, LRFs, composite armor, etc. This thing will be fighting the Object 279....

I main France, have played nothing but them since they were added. The pain isn't the constant BR shifts up, although that's a bother. And the French aversion to shell filler is a frustration. The real pain is being lumped in with all the major nation players who can only press w for victory. France only team, dammit. Or Minor Nations teams, at least. Also, we get our real kicks in early on in the ter and with the sherman with the fl10 turret.

I've been playing a lot of 7.7 France including the 40t and the amx-50 and it's been a ton of fun, but the first stage ammo replenishment speed is abysmal for no reason. 20 seconds for the loader to load one round is ridiculous.

I only recently unlocked the Lorraine and im already in love with it. French tanks live on the flanks and the Lorraine is the pinnacle of flank and spank

The Lorraine 40t CAN carry games… so long as they’re 7.7 or 8.0 games. Full uptiers is just struggle city. If you’re looking for a good plane to back up the (now extinct) 7.7 lineup, the MD 450 Barougan is quite good. Turns very well and gets a pair of SNEB pods.

I own the entire 7.7 lineup, premiums included. They are fantastic monsters, but the fact that these things will soon see 9.0 russian tanks, which the 100mm's can't handle, let alone the tanks at 8.7 we already face, which it's constantly dragged up to due to russia's massive lineup there as well... it's just gonna kill the tanks, period. We already have the brenus at 8.7 and that's not stabilized, yet it's just as effective as the T-55's at that same exact br to gaijin?

7.7 France was my safe space! I prefer the Surbaisse, my most reliable heavy tank killer, was so fun during the anniversary where there were hoards of maus. I liked the Lorraine, I just can’t stand how long it takes to reload the drum

i recently got into the french tanks with the Somua and play all of them in the 7.7 lineup, including the Lorraine. I Love them and hate that I breaks apart my lineup

That LeKPz M41 is such an MVP, instantly tried to help, when the situation got too dangerous he retreated but still put a smoke screen up, so Odd can repair more peacefully

I own this tank and it either goes game 1 :15 kills, 4 assists and 3 caps or game 2 :1 kill and 3 deaths

I got a talisman for this thing out of a crate way back when it was 6.something and it got me through the entire French tech tree.

I LOVE the Lorraine 40t. It’s such a good tank. Fast (ish). Can (sometimes) bounce shots. Fires so fast. And does good damage, the vast majority of my deaths in it are either a result of cas or having an empty ready rack.

The problem I find is that WT bypasses the postwar AP/APHE/APCR meta wherever possible. Vehicles that were designed for it but never upgraded for the following Sabot/HEAT era are left in a very awkward balancing scenario. They stomp if they're the slightest bit too low, but all the things that should be their contemporaries have been given late-in-life upgrades that leave them in the dust.

I had a feeling it was going to move up to 8.0. There goes my 7.7 France line up.

Seeing 9.0 in these vehicles is going to be an absolute nightmare. 9.0 china is already salivating

the 7.7 line-up for france is pretty monstrous but, they're ALL wobbly bois. This is something that can really hurt in an uptier unless you can find the good position to take advantage of a stable aim. The ammo in this and the AMX 50 works awesome but can bounce pretty strangely sometimes (like everything else when the snail says, "nope"). Mobility is awesome and turret swing is really nice. It is like you say -- either do pretty great or woefully bad :D PS -- I actually have a question that I hope that either you or Mr Spookston might know the answer to -- Why is it when the first stage runs out, rounds are not manually fed into the chamber as with other auto loaded vehicles?? You're just forced to become a paperweight for a while.

France had been pain until I finally today started analyzing maps during the pre spawn time, I’ve learned to go for angles on rush routes that I myself used to take and have been dropping 3 kill games with some assists consitently now!

it took them like 8 years to move the Leo up to a sensible br and about 3 seconds to move Frances already heavily struggling mid-high tier tanks

I noticed that the AMX 30 Super also got removed from the premium section of the game, which strikes me as odd to me.

Playing France has bought forth some of the most anger I have ever experienced in my hundreds of hours of War Thunder, and I am only BR 4.0...

What really gets me with the br changes is the bc25t going to 8.0 while the obj906 stays 7.7. Bad players mean gaijins balance method wont work:*

This was my favorite tank. When it came out at 6.7 i used it constantly for 2 months and my stats are 1698 kills and 647 deaths.

7.7 France is the lineup that I got one of my very few nukes in. Can't say I'm too happy to see it go up though, that match was hard fought

The best part of being an Italian, japan, and French player is every patch just makes my fav trees harder to play! Meanwhile Germany and Russia are on average 1-2BR under tiered across the board T.T

not even kidding the Lorraine 40T is the perfect tank in my mind, the great slopes, good mobility, the turret has a neck collar coving a weakspot, MASSIVE barrel and a great auto loader...yet bc of the type of battles it goes into and battle ranking system it just under performs like crazy. but truly it just needed one or two more integrations IRL where if it took a more pronounced hull front similar to the IS series, and layered on the armor, packed some filler in the shell, and made the auto loader in battle loadable where you could pause at a stage to brace for recoil, and also halt the next feed so nothing messes up, OR design a spot where you have 4 shots time worth to load a round and get it back into rotation...all hypothetical ideas where id perfect that thing.

I contributed to BR increase on Battle Pass EBR... I was taking it with friends to 11.0, I had AMX30 super, Tiger HAP and EBR... So many BVM killed with ebr from behind into back of the turret... It was fun, but reaload got increased, better round was taken off, BR went high it started as 4.0 and it's 6.7 now. Give it back its 200+ mm pen solid AP and move it to 7.0 :D

when they were 7.3 and 7.7 i got consistent and common nukes at 8.7-9.7 cause of using it(lorraine, char 25t and amx50) with the amx30 dca and eventually the 105mm 4s reload thermal SK105 or smthn. always loved the lorraine for the feel of that thumpy and sharp 100mm gun with a sleek reload on a great looking and super mobile, oversized (but nifty) light tank. loved the sense of being a neat lil fox but eventually stopped playing cause of the constant fckn revenge bombing, felt like it got worse and worse, which in turn got me to be more anxious and careful and that in turn made me too slow to catch and put down people before they got enough points for planes and helis. like a vicious cycle that gaijin did nothing to stop, turns out warthunder isnt worth it for me atleast but holy damn i could shoot that sht up like H, straight up my veins, miss that addictive feeling. also Oddb the HE on the lorraine and other french 100mms cant overpressure stuff like the rooikat, bmps or sheridans many places but some years ago they changed the way HE works sometime after adding overpressure, so that it gets an AP effect too, slight but with the french 100mms it got like 30mm or 31mm of pen and great angled performance at close range, like some sort of insane SAP shell. rooikat is like 25mm plates all around.

Also yes Bawz for some reason smoke grenades and barrels have the same audio as ATGMs and rockets for some reason

I just want to point out that Gaijin could get rid of the autoloader depletion problem. The Lorraine 40t was actually designed such that the gun would normally be fed by the loader (like in any other tank), with the autoloader only being activated in case the need for burst power arose. In Warthunder terms, this means that once the autoloader is depleted, the Lorraine shouldn't require a round to be fed into it, then loaded into the chamber, rather the normal loader should take over, presumably with a 8/9 sec reload (based on comparable calibers across other nations) This feature should also be present on the AMX-50, SOMUA SM & Char 25t, as well as the american T54E1 Gaijin could also undo the nerf to first stage ammorack reload which screws over french tanks specifically.

France 7.7 was definitely one of the strongest in the game, but, it also can really struggle in uptiers against Russian heavies. I'm worried that moving them up to 8.0 will just make the uptiers even more insufferable

I own the Lorraine 40t - it's an absolute monster, and along with it's autoloading friends (M4, M50) has been a lot of fun.

When this vehicle came out it was 6.3. Oh how times have changed.

It is my favourite tank, the one I got the most heavy metal awards with, and France at 7.7 is my favourite lineup… we’ll see :)

been playing this thing since it was 6.7 its been increasingly difficult to do well in it but doing well often means a 10 kill game however, when fully uptiered, it can make one feel like Sisyphus, achieving next to nothing for lots of effort

France has so many 7.7 I don’t know what to even use. For the Lorraine to be .3 br lower than the turm3 is a freaken crime!

You know what would really help players to know how to play their vehicle in a match? Putting the BR of the match on the spawn menu. I hate having to memorize the BR's of all the vehicles (especially when they change all the time). I know you can kinda tell by the spawn cost but that's just dumb when you could simply put a number on the screen and tell us if we got up or down-tiered so we can play accordingly.

I do own the lorraine 40t! I had alot of fun. I liked the speed, i liked the gun, i liked everything. Right now i am at the amx 40. Im trying to get the Leclerc. Im a little sad that its being moved up to 8.0, glad i enjoyed it at 7.7.

I play Germany and I highly respect the french players, you know fair enough they are the ones that trully suffer, that aside in the old "Germany suffers" way we all have to deal with the T-55AM-1, with composite armor which makes even the heat rounds struggle to pen, so even the ones who are supposed to be able to take it down are requiered to play it carefuly meanwhile he just stand on top of the map because he knows nobody can't hurt it. Gaijin knows damn well that fucking thing is blantly overpowered, Its literally a top tier mbt sitting in a way low br, Fully Stabilized, as said before it has Composite Armor in the hull and turret cheeks, has APFSDS, Laser Rangefinder. Its blantly broken and we see it everywhere, pretty much the predecesor of the 72-TURMS-T. Say for example In the case of the Leopard 1 mod A1, it gets the early dm 23 APFSDS and a stabilizer and its already sent to 9.0 no excuses, yet this thing remains a pain in the ass for people from 7.7 to 9.7 (the later one is rare to find you will probably find the T-72 TURMS or the T-62 with the same armor upgrades)

As a French player that got out of WT because of the issues with the economy and BR compression. I was thinking about maybe getting back into it again. But since they're moving that thing out of a BR it's okay at to one that it's going to get decimated in. Yeah, nah, I'm not doing that. Especially since I'm at the Lorraine in the tech tree

Honestly me and my boys are currently having a really good time and doing really well in France 7.7 and were decent players so this is in a small part our fault.

I own all three, and the 90mm APHE is soooooo good. These are my favorite tanks, or were. In the AMX-50 TO90/930 I have about 300 deaths and 500+ kills (Thats really good for me).

The Lorraine 40 T is definitely my favorite tank, the 4 sec auto reload, the quickness and the reverse speed of it is amazing. I have gotten a nuke with it just because Russian mains are sometimes blind. But now that the Lorraine 40 T is going to 8.0 even though it’s been through hell at 7.7, with the massive silver lion when you die. One of the best French tanks you can play. And as a French main the Char 25 T that is also getting moved up since it was 6.7 with only AP and not apcbc, it was good for what it was. I don’t remember when the char 25 T got the 4 second reload but I do remember that it had a 6.5 second autoloader system which was pretty mid tbh. The Lorraine and Char are probably the best tanks in the French tree you can use. Now that it is going to 8.0, it already seeing T55AM’s, now that it can see the T62AM, XM-803, M60 TTS, Leo a1a1, type 74, ZTZ88, PTL02, and the AFT09. These all have laser range finders while the Lorraine, Char and Amx don’t have a laser range finder. And the drops on these shell are horrible. But now they destroy them. I really call BS and Gayjin’s part because of this.

As a German main, coming to the French mid tree, I was so pleasantly surprised how it plays out. It's one of if not the most fun I've had in game. Curious to see wha this change will do to my French playstyle.

I love fighting against fully stabilized, dart/amazing APHE firing tanks that have composite armour, in my 7.7 - 8.0 tanks that have solid shot and guns that take forever to settle.. ./s On a less sarcastic note I love playing the French vehicles ^^ IMHO they look awesome, are mostly fun to play & any good result I get I really feel like I earned every point of it (same with the British tanks).

ive got the 40T, its a great vehicle at its BR due to its speed and autoloader but the problem is its round often does no damage so you end up firing 10 rounds at some enemies then get clapped by their teammate, or get 1-2 off then they come after you and 1 shot you. plus it doesnt have a whole lot of armour so you get clapped by IFV's in uptiers and cant effectively pen ERA/composite uptiered as well. i really wish the would properly decompress the BR's and balance by spawn cost.

The fact that it can shoot directly through the mantlet of the T26E5 means it's not a super fair tank to deal with if you're a world war 2 heavy.

My fav lineup, have a 68% winrate with the 40t, probably my fav tank in the entire game

Aside my RU591, the 40T is the weapon of choice for some good early sniping fun. I oversaw the French tree for a long time but is now my second fav

7.7 would be fair if uptiers weren’t a thing. But when you’re in a 6.7 vehicle facing this thing it’s a pain in the ass.

The most painful thing is when you win several games with good KDR and all that and then you get a continuous bad luck charm and then you leave the game because the game is giving you depression

im pretty sure i have that tank, i got pretty far in most trees to get around the 5.0 rank back then, and i certainly remember this thing...not sure if it was a earlier variant or not, but i was a VERY UN IMPRESSED...the slope from armor and the barrel depression just game be depression

If they buff the Leclerc reload to 5 seconds, it will be going up to 13.7 BR next update

I have the lorraine but honestly prefer the amx 50 to100 due to all the autocannons at 7.7

This tank is super niche. High ceiling really low floor. Great firepower but no armor and somewhat circumstantial. If you are a good player this tank can be devastating, but if you don’t play it smartly it won’t last long. So of course the good players get punished

So fun to fight a stabilized tank with good mobility composite armor and apfsds (t55-am1) with my unstabilized tank with ap round
