One thing Americans don't like is foreigner critiquing our politics.

I don't think we should minimize the fact of Russia only taking a few meters of land at a time. Their goal is to take land and they are doing it. It looks like they are attacking at alternate positions to keep Ukraine jumping. Ukrainians just do not have the forces to heavily cover every area.

Trump will say anything at any time if he feels it helps him politically. The people he surrounds himself with, the people who actually get stuff done in an administration, hate Zelinsky and love Putin. Trump's call was simply intended to disarm his political opposition on this issue. Avoid the trap of commenting on US politics. You'll just end up amplifying the message of those who oppose Western democracy.

How should Ukraine prepare for a possible Trump win?

With the best will in the world, Trump cannot be trusted. I hope Zelenski understands that, which I think he probably does. But it is a mark of his quality that he realises he may have to 'work' with Trump, and is making an effort to find out what Trump's position is going to be. But I am confident in Zelenski's quality as a statesman, based on his performance so far. Not bad for a TV Comic? I hear criticisms of him from various sources, but it is hard to find a politician that is not criticised. It seems to come with the territory. I reckon that once the conflict is over, Zelenski will be to Ukraine what Churchill was to Britain. Or they could boot him out at the next election. Life is still unpredictable in so many ways.

Don't take President Zelenskyy for a fool. He knows how Trump operates. 💙💛💕❤️

It saddens me, but the situation I see right now is inconsistent support from the west, a lack of political will to properly staff the military in Ukraine, and the corruption in Ukraine that prevents strong defense lines. Even as I write that I have to hope that it's corruption rather than incompetence that still leaves broad swaths of the front weakly defended. Ukraine is certainly free to fight the war as it sees fit, but their choice last year to keep fighting and dying in Bakhmut rather than mount an aggressive counter assault in the south was probably the end of their chance to reclaim territory. They wanted to preserve lives, but rather than one major battle with high cost in lives and equipment they have numerous losses along the entire front for months on end. While they once mocked Russia for using prisoners to staff the military, they have adopted the same practice. Currently they have weapons from the west, but they don't have troops ready to use them. One can easily argue that Russia has an advantage because Ukraine can't use long range weapons in Russian territory, but Crimea and the Donbas are fair game, and Russian equipment and troops move through them freely. Zelensky was great at bringing aid from the west at the start of the war. But now he is running the war as a politician who wants to preserve popularity rather than a leader who will do what is needed. I have heard again and again that the west should supply the weapons and Ukraine will do the fighting. The west has and continues to provide a minimum amount of weapons and ammunition. Unfortunately, Ukraine is not doing any better in staffing and training it's military. Right now Ukraine has the equipment and ammunition, yet every day we still see tactical gains by Russia.
