Miami International Piano Festival Academy 2018 Nova Southeastern University Master Class with Francesco Libetta Beethoven Piano Sonata Op. 2 No. 3 in C Major Mvmt 1 Allegro con brio
“If you are brave enough to be boring for two bars, you have a magical effect here... you are afraid to be boring.” Priceless insight I will always remember! Love this ❤️, and the young pianist plays beautifully! Thank you for sharing!
Lovely! One of the most simpatico, entertaining and instructive masterclasses; made me want to take up this sonata! Interestingly, he didn't dwell on her obvious technical problems, just guided thru with the greater musical plan, which certainly, in this case, is the best approach.
“Proportion” “You can be anything that you want to be but you need to be surprising” “You are normalising!” “It was not just too much. It was useless.”
Nope. Five or six years is about the limit for a top concert piano, before it goes off into retirement. But in the back rooms of the conservatoire, some 50 year old pianos are probably still kept going. Libetta's point was that in 1797 there were virtually no 20 year old pianos, and all the 50-year old instruments were harpsichords. Hence the absurdity of publishing Beethoven's Op.2 as for harpsichord or piano.
