The three titles of this orchestral piece are- for English speaking listeners- I.The blackcap II.The woodpecker III.The scops owl. Trivia: Gian Francesco Malipiero was a great lover of animals - a love witnessed by Arthur Bliss in an article published on Daily Telegraph in 1928. His home in Asolo was a kind of sanctuary, inhabitated by cats (one of them called Vivaldi), many dogs, poultry, goats, owls and an eagle, but collected insects and butterflies too. Several compositions refer to animals, such as "A un pappagallo" (to a parrott), "a un elefante" (to an elephant) or the 6th string quartet subtitled L'Arca di Noé (Noah's Ark).
