Thank you, Francis & Cameron, for this interview & content. I am really hooked. I have been looking for a material for my house. I think I am going to review this one further.
Excellent vidéo ! I'm very interesting in compressed earth block contruction. In my culture, amazigh people of Morocco, we build fortress (kasbahs) and houses with earth compressed since over 2000 years !
Hi.. Francis... what's the size of the brick..and weight..is it easily manageable to place and construct.. conventional clay bricks a bricklayer uses one hand...
Francis, thanks for the very good video. I want to build with these in Australia, and I will have a double block wall, and it will be rendered on the outside and inside walls. So I have 2 questions: 1) If I want to render it, should I ask for a mould with straight sides, that is, without a bevel on the edges? 2) The blue surrounds on the windows on this house, is it rendered to look like lintels? Or are they concrete lintels?
i wish i had the video but i did see another youtube video show that with the interlocking blocks you actually spend more money on concreting the corners than the mortar used with regular blocks ... but the video sounds correct in saying you can do it faster with interlocking so that will be cheaper .... now i did find this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-23MTZuq6bec.html that shows a cheap soil mortar that is strong but is it strong enough to get approved by a city building department
How to check the local soil whether it is fit for this purpose. And can we make it through hand instead of that machine for compressing. For single small house the machine cost is too high. It can be combinedly buy for the eco friendly community.
I love it but have questions: Is this type of brick strong? How strong compare to real brick? Is the wall made from this brick strong? How strong compare to a normal brick wall? If a car with 40 km/h hits this wall, how will the wall stand up? If it rains for a week on the wall, will it survive like a normal brick wall? Hit the wall with a hammer a few times, will it damage easily? Is this wall better be rendered outside and inside for its protection? Do you make the wall before bricks are dry or after they are completely dried?
compressed earth bricks are quite a bit stronger than regular bricks, and they are very water resistant--you can submerge them in water for a year and they do not lose their strength. Cure time is about 3 weeks, but you can start building with them in about a week if you cure them properly (or build with them immediately if you are not adding a bit of cement, depending on your application). I don't know why we don't see CEB in use much more.

Hi Cameron, Thank you for the insightful content. Could you share with me the number Lubega Francis. I have been looking for builder with specialist knowledge in ISSB construction. Stephen
i think for the interlocking if they don't put plaster over the bricks then they can spray on this liquid stuff that prevents water & bugs to get into the cracks but this spray stuff you need to re spray every 3 - 5 years ,, i think that is what's giving a shine to the bricks in the background
I can tell you that the use of rebars, is an idea which for some reason has taken everybody's minds. There is no need for these rebars, or concrete corners, or "pylons" or "pillars". These, in fact, destabilizes the entire building. The very best you can do is to use blocks (with mortar, though!), and use these blocks also in corners. Ensure that the blocks are sufficiently long, such that they can exactly interlock also in corners. You can build up to several floors with bricks, and NO pillars, or pylons :-)... The house, if it is properly made with mortar, is more stable with brick-corners, interlocking each other.

thanks for that number. i have seen two models of the brick making mechine (on you tube). but no manufacturer name or contact number. the videos are make by brick builders not mechine sellers.

7 years late but i find each brick is between $1 and $1.50 ,, and you need 7,000 for a 1200 sqft house ... so $7000 for all the outside and inside walls , you just need pay for foundation and roof and you got yourself a house
Hi Francis! My name is Zack Wamara I am from DRCongo and I am really interested in making these ISSBs so my question is how much is that ISSBs machine? I would also like to know what are the conditions if we request you to come and train people in DRCongo? Please I am looking forward to hear from you.
All the way to heaven if you like...they are magic bricks! Nothing can knock them down...You could build a stairway all the way up to where they hand out free pies all the day long...no problem....yes next question please?
@@dougiequick1 No. You can build with bricks alone, up to some 6 floors or so. This depends on the block and how it is made. If the block is not sufficiently strong, it will powderize - disintegrate.
everything is built on earth , so even if where you're at is all concrete just break the concrete up to get to the soil and then dig down for all the soil you need ,, that is unless you live on a volcano that might be the only one instance where you can not get to the soil that's below your feet
And who needs place for reinforcement bar? When it all falls over then simply bury the dead bodies and stack the bricks right back up again...simple!, easy clean and fast!
My god, this is a very ' SHammy" presentation. If they want to be taken seriously show an actual opposing "brick" and an actual presenter. If this were something worth doing you would never know because they seem so fake.
