Oh, by the way, Francis Lung saw this video and on his Facebook page he's "looking for the person" who did it to contact him ASAP. Like so take some crime can see
Pure art. The way the video is built up from the start to the end,how the music fits the picture of him dancing all alone perfectly, the way the people sometime stand in front of him but you never lose sight of him,the way the people notice him and wonder but never look at him and how the little girl is the only one admitting to be looking at him without being scared. I usually don't start doing this "seeing metaphors everywhere for no reason" thing but this is just impressive.
would also support the title of the song "selfish man", when you take into account what you just said :D (btw I'm also not a guys that sees in everything a symbol:P)
I saw the same! Stuff like how the chorus kicks back in at 3:30 right as the two guys blocking the camera finally part ways. It's crazy how much meaning can come from something so unscripted.
you know, ive seen this video so many times, im not even gonna try to count them, everything about this just soothes me and inspires me to keep going, no lie, it just makes me wanna go further in life, even in my most anxious and depressing moments this video, your moves, the song, and the just the /flow of your movements/ in this, captivates me, im not good with words but i mean something along the lines of being alive and colorful and screaming at the top of your lungs in a world where everything is grey and just keeps moving, something about doing your best and enjoy whatever you currently have just because it is /now/, while everyone else is trapped in the routine and a monotonous wave that threatens to pull you in; i just really like this video, and i wanna thank you for sharing it, you have no idea what it means to me, thank you.
i tried this...dancing in public...in front of a chinese music store with sad chinese music...in chinatown downtown and in school too it is SURPRISINGLY very fun when you look at peoples stares or your friends half-supporting half-joking laugh.... i didnt feel that awkward or shy after the first 13 seconds...
That little speech snippet at the end! I have heard that before just some months ago... it's by Alan Watts. Very interesting... And of course super impressive courage.
8 years later and damn... This still has to be one of your best videos man. If I am able to defend myself on the dance floor is thanks to you! Don't doubt for a second you inspired a lot of people like me, so many many thanks from me and all of them.
I loved how happy you made the people behind you. Those woman's reactions were beautiful. Thank-you for making this world a more beautiful place to live in. : )
This was like a one take music video. Like everybody who passed by without interest was all staged. I even felt suspense whenever staff passed by especially the 3 guys on the truck. Perfect.
I'm pretty sure his goal wasn't much "music vIdeo" and more film myself dance awesomely in public despite strangers and passer-byes. The behavior of everyone around seemed typical and expected in that circumstance. Most people are timid, shy, and scared to even slightly deviate from the masses. They don't want to be pointed out so would rather keep walking then stop and admire. He wouldn't go out of his way to cast these people. This can be inferred from his other videos; he does it for the dance. And what do you mean suspense? Do you mean people acted stiff around him or he would pause? Other's stiffness would be due to their curiosity peeping out from their shy little safe shells. Also it being an airport and they have places to go, they probably can't afford much else besides slowing down to soak it in. He, on the other hand, suspends at first for he's aware of the video but then says fuck, suspense won't make these people move any quicker or make the music wait (earbuds -> that's how he stays in sync. Probably don't care about other things), so I'll just keep going. I pretty much wrote this because my because I don't understand how you came to your conclusion/inference?
MegaAniLinkFan Rereading your comment after 4 months, I think I understand what you meant: that it would have required only one guy to mess up the entire one-take video, yet nobody did in the end making it perfect. It was just the phrasing of the second sentence. I think adding "It was" before the "Like" makes it less misleading to me at least.
Just to know that he did this in public in front of so many people in an airport is amazing. I would be so embarrassed if someone saw me dance in public. This guy had his groove in his mind and heart and did not care what anybody thought. I give this guy such mad props for doing this.
I've watched this quite a few times now - there are so many wonderful things about this video. But I just had a thought - All of the people watching cannot hear the music (You can see TSC adjust his earphones), which makes this fantastic. To think, they see an incredible dancer with a killer sense of rhythm, yet all they hear is the relative silence of ambience, which is noise enough to some (John Cage, etc).
I found your videos less than two months ago. While this is not my favorite (Over Your Shoulder), this is the one that makes me the happiest. So many times I'll go out to dance by myself and knowing that you could just be YOU in the middle of an airport with all these people around, not even hearing the music, makes me think I'm a fool to not be confident enough to go out and dance when no one else is on the dance floor. Thank you.
Since he posted, I've been in countless trips, always with this song in my headphones Francis Lung and TSC really hit. Whenever I'm stressed or depressed, this video reminds me I will keep going in search of those good moments
It's been years since I first seen this video and heard this song and i'm still hooked. The lyrics, the song, and the dancing all make for a great experience. Love this video, and i'll probably be watching for years to come.
I use to watch this video almost every day when i use to dance but i end up dropping dancing, coming back here and see it again is still astonishing and heartwarming as the first time i saw it. Your dances are very inspirational Thank you TSC.
Well dancing in public is nothing to be ashamed of if you feel comfy the way you Dance. if it looks good for those passing by, well than you know you can dance good and people like it ^o^ all i can say is, every video you put up i love it ever since you began.
It's not just public, it's Dubai. Fatal Fatwas have been issued over less disruptive behavior. It's a feat in boldness of character. More than style or technique TSC is a master of artistic courage and persistence. That's why he will inevitably succeed in realizing truly great art.
Homosexuality is punishable by death in the UAE, which is true for Saudi Arabia as well. Not sure what their position is on public dancing (lol) but they are in fact pretty conservative by Western standards.
Thank you for introducing me to such a beautiful song, and delighting me with your gift of dancing. Honestly, encountering you was an accident. A lovely accident.
I don't really believe in those stuff-inspiration, motivation. But you inspire me a lot, man! Especially this video-brilliant! It is very good to real taste freedom, isn't it? Thanks, TSC!
I was introduced to the dance videos of takeSomeCrime over the holidays, when Get Lucky was playing on Pandora and somebody pulled up takeSomeCrime's dance to it. I've been watching many of his dance videos over the few weeks since then, going back four years and up to this most recent upload. In addition to the sheer great quality of his dance, I am completely taken by how he is focused on developing his dance. With A Selfish Man I feel we are seeing a shift in his art: not a departure at all, but development in accord with the principles of evolution - increasing complexity and increasing integration. So enjoyed it.
TakeSomeCrime what's the talking at the end of the video? This is ethereal, simple yet profound. Gratitude, if I could express how this has radically moved my life today. Peace.
TSC, you must, must send copies of your videos out to various producers, agents ..... You have a great talent, and it would be unfair to you as well as the world to waste it. Take these words of wisdom from a 57 year old woman who has seen many, many people fail to pursue their passions! What a pleasure watching your joy of dance (I think you might be able to act as well!). Thank you
This is one amazing video! You are very brave and I love to see how much you lose yourself into the music and the dance. You truly dance from the heart!
2:01 Kids: "Momy what is that strange man doing momy?" Mom: "Nothing kids keep walking..." Still amazing dance man like I would die if I could learn from you.
This was great on so many levels. True Art. The song the place the dancing the angles one shot of continuous filming. Very emotional Thankyou for doing it. Life is beautiful
What drives you to keep going? Your style is defined by your flow of movement. Doesn't seem like you waste any energy or flow. Tectonics are always dope and foot work is intricate to the point where they control themselves.
Isn't it?? I find it to be a psychological response to our common selfishness. Like, he truly doesn't mind people passing by or laughing at him because that's what he wants to show : that he is not the bellybutton of the world and that there are actually people who live their lives and yeah..??? Maybe we think the world revolves around ourselves solely, but idk it's like- The world is gigantic. He is not a selfish man.
Camélia Edogawa That's really deep Camélia, I think I know what you mean. He's putting himself out there and saying "This is who I am and I am expressing myself." I do what he does sometimes as a form of self expression and to entertain. More people should be like him in this regard and appreciate what people like him put out there. We'd have a better world.
