I always assumed it would be Islam that would eventually invade Rome and take over the Vatican someday. I never imagined it would be the CIA.

I will never leave the Church, but I won't be COERCED into attending the practically-protestant Novus Ordo Missae. It's SSPX for me, four-hour drive. Not a sacrifice for what I get: the Mass.

Many of us Catholics have no other options than the Novus ordo, I love my Catholic faith, the sacraments, the rich tradition, there are many holy priests who offer Nova Ordo Mass. I go to mass to pray and show God my love and respect, I have to remain in the Church it is the gift Jesus gave us, there's nowhere else forme

I read a lot of people saying the Church abandoned them. Jesus said the gates of Hell shall not prevail. Even a corrupt priest can effect Sacraments including the pivot of our Union with Christ, the Blessed Sacrament. Anthony has mentioned many options to continue even if that means SSPX. There are many holy and good Novus Ordo priests who show great reverence to the Blessed Sacrament. We may not like it, but it is not an invalid Mass. We must stay in the boat, no matter the storm, Jesus will calm the storm in His time. Anyone saying ‘the Church has left me’ and implying they are leaving, I say ‘Satan get behind me’….you cannot withdraw from the Sacramental life or you put your soul In jeapordy.

Well he may as well give up on that idea. We go to Church for Jesus.

The true Catholic believers know it’s not possible to leave the church. It’s just not an option. Unfortunately it’s the typical NO attendee that would most likely leave the Church if they made traditional worship or teachings more prevalent. They’re chastising the faithful for the sake of the lukewarm.

I so agree with your comments on active participation, Anthony. I actually prefer a low mass as it creates an atmosphere conducive to real contemplation of the sacrifice that is happening on the altar. Admittedly all the lovely little children present can be a distraction; but you get used to it, and after a while it becomes like white noise that you just don't really hear any more.

If the diocesan TLM is shut down many will leave the Catholic Church for the Novus Ordo Church. Important distinction to remember

Quo Primum is a solemn papal decree, which is binding upon the Church in perpetuity. There is no lawful way for the latin rite to be taken away. Validly ordained priests will always be able to say it. The SSPX has shown time and time again that they are going to fight to hold onto their right to practice the TLM. They have also shown restraint and good judgement in not rejecting more than they can lawfully reject.

We have a diocesan Trad Mass. I'm hoping that since our priest is a Canon lawyer we will keep out Trad Mass because he knows the law. Hoping!

If the traditional Latin Mass doesn't fit in with Vatican II goals than what does that say about Vatican II? I really do believe Vatican II needs a total top to bottom review. Its language must be brought in line with the total Catholic Tradition. Those parts that cannot be brought in line with the Total Catholic Tradition should be considered false and done away with.

Regarding low Mass, a thousand times yes. I'm the choir director for my tiny Orthodox parish, and the one hat-tip to low Mass silence I can pull off is ending the Cherubic Hymn after only one and a half repititions. Don't get me wrong, the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom has my heart now, but I loved the near-silence of the "Prayerbook Eucharist" when I was an Anglo-Catholic.

Our parish has been endorsing and forming "small" community based groups to gather for prayers. I remember back when such groups also would have Mass at their homes (I was a child) we did it once, we can do it again.

I think that it is concerning that proper blessings for holy metals are not being done, and I understand that they're watering down the prayers for the sacraments, it indicates either a lack of respect for the power of Evil or cooperation with Evil, actually both attitudes are cooperation with Evil.

My Catholic Faiith is too deeply embedded in my whole being. I have several versions of the traditional Catechism, and the 1945 and 1962 Hand Missals to meet my Spiritual needs if need be.

As I understand it the Roman Catholic Church is one of seven sects, being it 97% of the "Catholic" church, but all are in community with the Roman church. The Mass I attend currently is a Carmelite mass. Will this mass be replaced as well? Please let me know if that is correct

Kneel for communion if you have to go to a Novus Ordo Church like me. Sometimes the Priest will get cranky about it, but they can't deny you. It sends a message believe me. The more of us who do, the louder the 'message.'

Yes, Francis aims to drive Trads from the Novus Ordo Church. But the Novus Ordo Church is not the Traditional Catholic Church outside of which there is no salvation. Francis publicly taught the heresies that Hell is empty and that the souls of bad people simply cease to exist after death. I emphatically reject the outrageous notion that Catholics, of good will, and suffering under the false impression that they must remain in the Novus Ordo Church and obey Francis unconditionally, will not be saved. All I am saying is that no one can actually practice the Traditional Catholic Faith in the Novus Ordo Church, although their innocent but misguided attempt to do so, will not draw down the condemnation of God upon them. Likewise, Trads either by joining TLM communities, or simply by staying home and holding on to their Faith through prayer, the Rosary and especially Spiritual Holy Communion, also are free from Divine condemnation.

The Mass is the Mass whether Latin Portuguese, Irish, Vietnamese, Russian. The language is irrelevant.

Mr. Stine, the Council of Trent which took 17 years was meant by the Council Fathers to be a Dogmatic Council and the Counter-Reformation to set forth and to codify the True Teachings of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Faith. The Vatican II Council was not Dogmatic, only Pastoral, and therefore had no power to abrogate the teachings of the Council of Trent. Therefore the True One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Faith is not controlled by Vatican II, but rather the Council of Trent. Note: See: "Trent and Vatican II compared" by Fr. Tim Finigan of The Australian Confreternity of Catholic Clergy, 2013. (The post-conciliar seminaries do not teach the Council of Trent doctrines and dogmas, only the documents of Vatican II.) Hello, if there’s no Latin Mass, “Usus Antiquior” there is no Church, capital C church. Francis pushes his version of watered down sacraments, watered down rituals, the community meal at a table (Novus Ordo) is not the Church. If that is “The Church” that Christ founded two thousand years ago then that is the church at abandoned us 60 years ago. The false church we have been warned about. I haven’t left the church, the church has walked away from the flock. The so called church you talk about has left us. I will sadly continue to suffer this loss of the Usus Antiquior until my last breath and final judgment but will not get into bed with these wolves and vipers.

Regarding leaving the Church: I can't imagine actually leaving the Roman Catholic Church. I have entertained that, if PF bans the TLM, I may join a church in union with Rome like the Eastern Orthodox but I wouldn't consider that "leaving" the church per se. Maybe it is. "To whom shall we go?" If what Fulton Sheen said is to be believed about the construction of an "ape of the church," then the modernists in Rome are surely doing that which means they are actually outside the church and Traditionalists aren't. But practically, what does that mean, if you don't have the TLM? And priests in obedience to Bishops do not take the TLM underground, we're left with the Novus Ordo. Maybe the church deserves it for our sins. Perish the thought.

Most modern communist minded traditionalists (within the diocese) consider the SSPX outside the church because they've been beaten into submission with the "full jurisdiction" whip. Why do you consider them inside the church? The SSPX podcasts are helpful, but a timeline of what happened to the church with details (dates, places, and names) that led up to Lefebvre consecrating the bishops. Vat2, Communion in the hand, churches being desecrated (alter rails, tabernacles, alter girls...etc.), JP 2 kissing the Koran, ...etc. How many Catholics left the church then? What was the resistance from within the conciliar church, and how effective was it? I know the background on Lefebvre, and the Ecclesia Dei groups, but i don't know if there was anything else from within the concilliar church, was there? It seems like all traditional groups are a result of Lefebvre. Also, are ther photos of Lefebvre's ordination or consecration? Were there other bishops or priests attending? I want to understand the in-fighting.

Anthony, I don't disagree with you often, but communion on the tongue, ad orientem, and not having altar girls are not "accretions from the TLM". They are all licit options in the NO. Same for chanting the propers in Latin according to the Graduale. (There is, after all, a 1974 GR, obviously developed for the NO.) An example of a real "accretion from the TLM" would be adding the Last Gospel, or (arguably) the use of the maniple.

I am fortunate to belong to a Parish that offers the TLM once each Sunday. In fact, the NO at our Parish is said with the Priest facing “East”. I am very thankful that our Pastor delivers this level of tradition and that our Bishop supports our Parish. Clearly, though, our lives will change dramatically should this all disappear someday. NEVER take anything for granted!!

I agree with you. Anthony, that it sounds like the author of this article is suggesting we (TLM brethren) should leave the Church. I left the NO to live my Faith more clearly in the TLM at a SSPX Chapel an hour away. No turning back for me! I love the SSPX parish I attend.

You want active participation AND ancient tradition, come experience a Divine Liturgy of St John Crysostum. I recommend a Ruthinian Rite for your average American as its not ethnic at all, and all the Divine Liturgies are said in the vernacular, some of the others are said in their particular languages, like Ukrainian, Romanian etc. It's chanted, and the laity is CONSTANTLY in dialog with the priest and deacon. There's NO REASON to leave the church because your patrimony has been stolen from you, as you can still have Tradition, beauty, AND the true catholic faith

Our diocesan priest has been celebrating the TLM for around three years. But, if the Bishop bans it, he will not continue. We have a TLM parish about an hour away, but it is also a diocesan parish, so I don’t know what will happen.

Actually, I think those at the biggest risk of leaving are those who are at the unicorn reverent novus ordo, but haven't yet made it to the TLM.

If we had a good shepherd, the answer to this problem would be simple. Just to create another rite. There are many rites in the Catholic Church. Have one more, a Latin Rite and a VII Rite.

You have to go where God and Christ are, and if the Roman Church abandons God and Christ the very fate of your immortal soul depends on your decision on these matters. "The Church" is where Christ is. Period. It's not a small, walled-off neighborhood in Rome.
