I grew up regional Vic and never heard of him until I came to Melbourne as an adult.

Knew of him in Hobart, used to be screened on late night TV in the 90s

Footscray and Brunswick were heavily populated by Greek and Italian migrants back in the day - many of whom were new in the country. He's speaking Greek and Italian because a lot of the audience wouldn't have understood English.

@@TimChuma It's not named as Franko Cozzo furniture. But I know what you mean, there is some furniture that could almost be that European style of furniture. The Sims 3 would have been even better for that, where you could choose the choice of fabrics and colours for the furniture. To give it that classic ethnic look. 🤣

Ross Well if you consider the Franco Cozzo imprint left on anyone living in Melbun in the 80's , saying in Italian war on prices takes a back seat to his son going to prison for smuggling cocaine in the couches .. all across Melbun couches were being searched in a way that was never witnessed until remote controls came along towards the end of the decade .. I still remember how getting up to change the channel wasn't one of life's problems 🤣 then came the remote and ironically made getting up to change the channel a solid pain in the ass .. mind you there was only 5 channels and changing the channel wasn't a thought unless a show finished and the one after it sucked .. ahh life was less complicated until we tried to make everything easier 😂

@John Smith my family is from Rome and every single household had that kind of forniture in the '80s. I remembered walking in front of a shop in Brunswick last year and seeing this furniture (maybe it's Franco's old shop?) and having this flashback of many Sundays in some of my relatives' living rooms, surrounded by that kind of hideous couches and pantries and cabinets 😆. Also let's not forget the plastic on the couch

Yes - most definitely English, Italian AND Greek in this ad 😊 He was fluent in Greek also, as his father was actually Greek (and his mother Italian, where he was born and raised).

hahahaha true.. I remember we once hijacked our italian class in high school because of this ad. The whole lesson was turned into people repeatedly shouting quotes from the ad at each other.. No one took language classes very seriously at my school hahaha.
