Recorded by Zaïre television in 1975. Featuring singers (l to r): Michel Boybanda, Josky Kiambukuta, Wuta Mayi, Lola Djangi 'Chécain' and - of course - Franco Luambo Makiadi.
Africa will never ever experience this level of talent, genius and all this quality musicians all in one band as the years of Franco Luanzo Luambo Makiadi And TPOK Jazz from 1956 till the band disbanded 4 years after his demise in 1989 . TPOK Jazz as we had loved it and known it disbanded in 1993.
You are very right 100 per cent this kind of music may never happen again not in our lifetime. We are forever grateful some of us were there when they were released in the 70’s. We danced to them like crazy.
Enzi hizi hazitarudi tena, nakumbuka mwaka huu ndio nilifunga ndoa nikiwa mschana kwelikweli tena wa kuvutia sana, natamani siku zirudi nyuma ili tuendelee kusikia nyimbo hizi. 29.03.24.
Ici, tout est divin. Le fond. La forme. L'instrumentation se passe de tout commentaire. Lwambo, oh!
... we are of the same opinion... concluded from start, he is a good dancer... they all can move, just that the others are just not as expressive as he is.
Checain Lola, Wuta Mayi, Josky Kiambukuta and Michel Boyibanda and the main wizard Franco Luambo Luanzo Makiadi you are real and genuine legends. Bravo. Natural and good.
Gentle and musical with the boisterous Boyibanda, smiling Josky, business-like Wutamayi and humble Checain. Franco the legendary witch on the guitar informing the world that music is medicinal to the hurting soul.
On the vocals from left; Michael Boyibanda, Josky Kiambukta, Wuta Mayi and Lola checain. Luambo enjoying himself on the solo in the background. It never gets better than this, 48 years later.
Still sounds as great as it did upon its release...... and will eternally...a good song never ages.... successive generations always uncover its beauty!!!
One of my favorite Franco TP OK Jazz songs. Can't believe I'm watching a live performance. Thank you for posting. And thank you Franco for your musical genius! I was born a decade too late to see these legends in concert.
This was the time Congolese music ruled African airwaves. A wonderful childhood it was for me to always stand in front of record store or radio while listening to Congo music. RIP Franco.
Realmente é mesmo musica de verdade. Faz-me recordar de muita coisa do passado. 🇦🇴🇦🇴
When there was no "DJ please play for me track number 2" and all the musician does is lip synch and shout out a word here and there. This was real performance.
Amazing! This is a wild TPOK Jazz! who is it who saw TPOK in later years, can imagine Lola Checain shaking every limb!? Even young tall Josky is bending double and performing pirouettes! So far I remember only Michel Boyibanda would remain a bastion of jerky movements as they aged! --wonderful nostalgic shots in this video!
Whatching from Kisumu Kenya.. these songs take me to a world I don't know and brings me back TPOK jazz was a great band I don't even know which of it's s song is my best because I love them all.. Even if you are resting your songs live with us My sons love your songs as if they saw you perform Your demise broke my heart into pieces the recent being of Josky Kiambukuta
Ah, mon Dieu, pourquoi?
The level of preparedness for the performance of this song is obvious. The Crue is seriously taking their parts with lots of enjoyment. Look at how Luambo is happy- to-perform- from his inner heart!!! The vocals, sax, drums, name it, are wild with excitement. This is music!!. Of the vocals, it's only Wuta Mayo who is alife. Dr. Ogeto International
Michael Boybanda is very alive and Wuta Mayi ..and we cannot rule out that everyone in this performance is dead because we only know of the frontline guys like guitarists and vocalists, i am sure that you and me dont know if all the saxophonists and the trumpetists are dead. Long life TPOK, DEAD OR ALIVE!
As of December 2021, Michel Boyibanda and Wuta mayi are the surviving vocalists , and may be of all who did this song. Legends live on dead or alive, and the libving live to die. Bravo!!

Nostalgic! Nostalgie! Nostalgie! Oh time! Oh death! What happens in this life? Indeed life is numbered! Is it just me who never gets enough of this song!? My oh my!!! Luambo's mastery of the guitar will forever be unmatched!😳😳😳 Eeeeeeeeiiiish Eeeeeeeeiiiish!!👌🙌🙌👏👏🤔🤔😅
