Exactly!! And the irony is they don't ask those other premiers why are they not fluent in French when French is also the official language of Canada.

Honestly this is humbling. I’ve been learning French all my life and sometimes I sound like this. Umms and throwing in English words here or there. First I’m seeing the roles reversed and from a world leader at that :) ... I don’t mind it

This is level C1 easily, maybe even C2. It's normal to not know a word or two. I am level C2 in French and I don't claim to speak like francophones
@paulthomas281
@paulthomas281 Год назад
@asfazrq No, it's B2. C1 is too high here. Don't get me wrong, B2 is a major achievement! If you should indeed be C2 in French, then you would write better in French than most francophones.

I don't get it. Sure, English isn't his main day to day language, but he speaks it well enough. He can communicate.

It's not that bad. I understand it perfectly well, and I wish my French were as good as his English. As Prime Minister of Canada, maybe not. But Premier of Quebec? Perfect. Frankly, Jean Charret gave me the creeps.

We Anglophones that have respected Quebec and Quebecers for all our stay in in Quebec feel discriminated by your discriminatory Bills that disrespect our rights frankly do no good for all Quebecers. Time has come to think inclusive. The direction Quebec is heading will only alienate the upcoming smart youth ( French and English speaking) to have no choice but leave the province for better places that have freedom of choice and expression.

As a guy from Québec I can tell you that he is doing well as a prime minister. He respected his promises more from right wing and yes he is not good as well in english but, Québec is a French land and must stay like this to me. And btw this video is from 2012 and now his english is perfect, he was the owner of Air Transat one of the biggest canadian aviation compagny.

I've heard him speak English much more fluently in other interviews. In this interview, he's not at his best. As an English teacher for some thirty years, I'm not surprised : I well know that fluency in a second language can be very variable. It can be affected by numerous factors - the topic at hand, other topics on the speaker's mind, and - last but not least - how wide awake/tired the speaker is at the time. Give the guy a break. You also need to realise that this interview was in 2011. In more recent interviews, he's a lot more fluent.

He's our Prime Minister for god's sake. He's not ordering a burger at Wendy's. This man is a total bust and his comprehension and mastery of the English language is almost nil. I guess if this is the standard for bilingualism in Quebec then he's correct in saying 80% of Quebecer are bilingual. What a joke!
