Take it from somebody that was around the situation. Senior was not writing down in his journal that He was going to kill his son. This is his way of justifying turning on his father, like he’s always tried to do. Another lie is that when Senior confronted Junior, it wasn’t about drugs. it was that and about that he stole his dads money. The real situation was you had a real gangster trying to keep his junkie son from embarrassing the family. And that money he stole was for noble causes like he said, opening business’s or whatever/ . I’ve definitely heard this on many occasions from different sources. From what I understand, Frank Jr. is a terribly unreliable narrator and you have to take a lot of details with a grain of salt. Certainly not saying his father was any kind of Saint, but the details he fills in are often very iffy. He was a cokehead for MANY years, and in that time he did a LOT of messed up stuff.

This guy reached out to the FBI without any coercion and for practically zero gain to make sure his father (and a lot of others) would die in prison --- that's bad enough. The fact that he now makes his living guiding tours in Chicago about the rough old days tells you everything you need to know about how weak / non existent the outfit is today --- no matter how ruthless his father was, this here is someone whose entire existence is a disgrace.

The Outfit was true LCN. They had a certain cadence and if you looked around you never knew they existed. It was quietly kept that the only thing anyone knew was the history of Al Capone. All I’ve ever watched was guys like Franzese and Gravano up to this point and it sounds like those guys were too loud with their illegal activities which brought down every family. Back in Chicago things were so quietly kept that it wasn’t until the Family Secrets trial that blew the lid off! In Chicago you’d walk around the neighborhoods Frank and all of the mob guys frequented but still never actually saw anything or knew anything and that’s what separated the Outfit from the 5 families in New York. These Outfit was also a lot more structured and there didn’t seem to be a lot of them going at it like out in New York. There was definitely a whole different dynamic when it came to Chicago.

But you’re right in the fact that the Chicago family was much more akin to true LCN. Why is that? Because they’re essentially an outpost of the Westside/Genovese family. I don't know why but it bothers me that Frank doesn't have a relationship with his brother Kurt because I've listened to them both and IMO they can repair this and let go of the past and just start brand new NOW! It's very sad IMO......
