And if he cared about people other than himself and if he was an involved father and wasn’t entitled. Yes in his own we he loves them. But love isn’t always enough. I think he actually loved them much more than Monica ever did. And I think he loved Monica more than she ever loved him. And whenever Monica dropped in his was just as mad as the other Gallagher’s- “haven’t you ruined my life enough?” But he always falls under her spell and she’s so good at manipulating him.

Yeah for real, franks own parents treated him like dog shit and abused him as a kid, but frank was a really smart guy, just didn’t have a good enough upbringing, lip and the rest need to give him a break because frank gave them a better upbringing than what he had.

I agree and disagree. Obviously going through such awful abuse effects people, and statistically those that are abused do end up being some type of abuser themselves or become emotionally detached to the point where they have a hard time seeing past their own needs ...but I've also had friends who were raised in some of the worst conditions and turned out to be amazing parents, because they used their own childhoods as references for what they don't want for their kids. There has to be a point where excuses are seen just as they are, excuses. But Frank is definitely the example of a morally grey, complex character- he loves his kids but he loves his booze and drugs a little more.

Right. Hear me out. Some would say Frank didn't leave because he didn't want to leave the south side. He rarely even stayed at the house and when he did, he did to take advantage of the others.

I am one year late but just wanted to say (as a person that hates frank) that sometimes leaving is better than staying and sure Monica left and Fiona was doing fine without her but she still needed to take care of Frank and all the shitty, dangerous actions he did. IMO they would be less fucked up without him and his influence on them especially the kids that were taking him seriously and believed in everything he said. Honestly it was so sad for me seeing debby with so much love for her dad being left out with nothing but disrespect

True. But it was the addiction in him that he was fighting and he didn't want to go back to his family when he knew that he wasn't better

I had a dad like Frank. He died a couple years ago due to his alcoholism and I still feel so much anger towards him but cannot help but pity him. I know he was a good man deep down but his addiction broke him.
