I also read that bigger bands touring America would refuse to have mahogany Rush as a support because the guitarists didn’t want to play after Frank, which makes sense not many guitarists from that era came close to franks playing. Not getting good support slots with big touring bands also hurt his chances at breaking into the mainstream rock audience
@@joelhartley5108 a rumour was started about him being visited by Hendrix ahold he was on acid!! Then he was playing like Hendrix!! It wasn’t true!! But alot of bands thought he was nuts ‘m they were scared of him
That was freakin' awesome! Don't see many people doing Frank Marino reactions. He was a huge influence on guys like Zakk Wylde, Joe Bonamassa and many others. And for good reason.

I got into Frank in the 70s and I've loved him ever since then , I was fortunate to see him live and in my opinion he is the greatest guitarist in my lifetime !!! Period !!
Frank is a god amongst guitarists! The fact that he sings while playing like this makes him stand out from his peers. He opened for AC/DC, Ted Nugent, and Aerosmith when I saw him in 1979 and he rocked!
I have had the pleasure of seeing Frank Marino and mahogany rush twice he was absolutely fantastic. Ive probably seen all the top rated guitarist’s over the years and believe me Frank still remains the best I’ve heard he is undoubtedly a true legend THE BEAST
Thank you TWH. Your reactions were priceless! You helped me relive my feelings I had well over 30 yrs ago when I first heard this album. You are now experienced in one of rock's best kept secrets! Most recent live stuff from Frank is on his DVD set live from the Agora Theatre. Try "The Answer" or "It Began to Rain". The second cut shows Frank's diversity in R&B and jazz fusion . Unfortunately Frank, as of now, will not be playing live anymore because of a health setback. He was great to see live - just like the album cover of Power Of Rock! Saw him many times and was able to meet and talk with him. A good man.
The Original SHREDDER! His guitar Ended up in the EMERGENCY Room and had to be revived! BUT the good news is that it made it! He absolutely destroys his guitar!
I have watched Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush since the 70's...they are a 3 piece Band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada...Frank is the Lead Guitarist & Vocalist!...
Just watched this reactio for second time. Glad to see you younger getting into what I call real and genuine rock. Frank is the guitar players player. He very well known in the guitar world. He has influenced many of the top players of today. Legendary. I regret not been ever to see him and mahogany rush together. Check out the 1978 live album. That is where I discover them in 1978 in high school. My favorite band!
Please do more of Frank.Look into his Live from the Agora concert,songs like It's Begun To Rain,Strange Dreams,The Answer for a start and you will see how incredible Frank was.That was the last concert he did.Thanks you two for this!
Cool song here, scorchin' guitar by Frank. Check out Ditch Queen, Runnin' Wild & Go Strange. Frank started out on the drums. When he was 13 years old he had a bad acid trip & was sent to the psychiatric ward of the Montreal Children’s Hospital & that's when he really started to learn how to play music, including the guitar (a cheap Stella acoustic). Frank says that guitar was a "lifeboat" for him. Frank stated that "Mahogany Rush" was actually "a description of the acid trip I was on-I told the doctors I was having ‘mahogany rushes.’ ” Frank's brother Vince played rhythm guitar in the band on this album & other albums too.
Thanks for this one! Look into Frank's story and you will really be impressed! He started as a drummer then learned guitar and was self taught.Nobody has as much talent as Frank,and his singing while killing it on guitar is better than most anybody who does that.Way ahead of his time!

I seen Frank for the first time back in 1978 he open for Nazareth the band that I was going to see had heard a little of Frank but not a whole lot back in the 70es but after that show I was totally a Frank fan one of the greatest underrated guitarist of all time
Saw Frank Marino at a small nightclub in the early 80's with like a hundred people a mile from my house. First ones there and we were right at the stage. Awesome show and I'll never forget it.
My second concert was Frank Marino and mahogany rush Columbus Georgia and he set the bar mighty high! Absolutely one of my favorites.... Nobody sounds like Frank Marino. Nobody. Hard rock, psychedelic rock, blues, jazz, Arabian influences and much more all in one.
Nice choice, Frank was awesome back in the day. I saw him several times, always high energy and solos to infinity. Try A New Rock and Roll, Land of 1,000 Nights, Reqium For A Sinner and In My Ways. Also he has a killer live album called 1978 Live, it is well worth tracking down and his playing on it was other worldly. I saw him open for Queen, Wow! Another time he opened Lou Reed. Finally saw him headline over Ronnie Montrose. To say these were memorable concert bills is a gross understatement. Rock On. 🎸

I saw Frank and his band in the 70’s. I finally figured out why he didn’t get much air play…they’d melt the turntables and set the speakers on fire…safety reasons.
Check out their Live at the Agora Theater concert filmed in 2010. I saw them at the Corona Theatre in Montreal in December 2010, just 2 rows front and center, sound was incredible and 40 yrs later, hasn’t slowed down one bit and slays every tune 👍🏼🎸🥁

Ya'll, I was listening to old Frank in the early 80's when I was a kid fresh out of Mortuary College and working at a Funeral Home, and listening to this on 8 track tape, in my old Buick Skylark!
Absolutely the most underrated guitar player ever! Nobody was shredding their guitar back then like Frank! Oh there was great guitarists. BUT?? Do your homework and check out his Live album and the Juggernaut album

We ain't dead yet....but Frank's sick, a lot of us are too. And old so....we needs some young ones to do it like this!!! Carry on. Cute couple. Rock on. At 6 something..."Air drumming..." This was Jimmy Ayoub's last recorded album with Frank. And Ain't Dead Yet is a great way to go out. He played his ass off for years. Thank God we've got a few videos of it. EVH was great and more popular. But at the time, (And I saw Van Halen later, O.K.?) you listen from 6:05 on...and I used to say, "Who?" No. This is the monster here. No finger tapping necessary.
Lol the very 1st concert I ever saw :) I was 8 yrs old and my older brother got stuck babysitting me so he had to take me :) They opened for Nazareth and my Brother made me smoke my 1st joint so I didn't rat him out :) Awesome concert and the next day I really got my brother back by rolling a very crude joint of minced garlic and chili peppers and offered it to my bro:) Hehe he turned green after the 1st toke and got soo mad at me he chased me down the street all while I was yelling at him that the family store was now unattended. Frank was shredding that SG in the mid seventies when the only thing being shredded back then was cheese. Remember that he's singing while burning up that fret board. I've been a guitarist for more than 45 years and he's been a huge influence on my own playing. His band has always been absolutely top notch which they would have to be to play with Frank.
When you guys go to the store make sure you get your stuff from the deli shredded corned beef Pastrami and roast beef Black Forest ham etcetera beef bologna doesn't work but you can have it slice super thin

I had the good fortune of seeing this incredible guitarist around 1981 when he released “The Power Of Rock and Roll” album and he was even better live. Unfortunately the sound quality of his two live albums isn’t great and the videos from his prime (70’s and 80’s) are also of poor quality. But to give you an idea how good he was, he started the concert by playing guitar with his teeth!
