Unboxing of the new Frank's Patriot boot made in Spokane, WA for $350! Keith Johnson is the guy who cut the Frank’s Patriot in half, here’s his video on it: • Cutting into franks pa...
I’m not simping for Drew’s but I got α set of factory seconds that I bought in person while on vaction. It’s still hands down the best work boot I’ve ever bought coming off all the mass produced loggers. I do hope franks keeps these in the line up till I can get α set.
Keith Johnson is who you are thinking of. He buys alot of franks boots. I bought myself a pair of the franks patriots and his channel popped up. When I was doing research on the boots.
I bought my first pair of whites boots I 2005, 12 inch tall smokejumpers for 405 bucks. I was hooked, I only by pnw boots. In 2006 I had Nick's build me a pair of insulated hotshots. The years when Frank was Nick's manager were the best years, I bought a few boots and had rebuilds done through them. I bought a pair of Nick's about 2 years ago but the quality is lower than the days when Frank was running the show. I'll be ordering from Frank's soon, he really gets why people who actually work want pnw style boots and it shows in the products he puts out . Looking forward to an update on these boots
Great video brother, thanks for sharing. I bought a pair of the Drew’s loggers that are the $350 dollar boots and then I bought 2 pairs of the Drew’s made in the USA 12 inch rough shots and they are strikingly similar to the franks commanders 😉 and for $575 dollars, I think they are the best value of any pnw boots and I’m going to do a review of them, I like them so much
I've got my pair of patriots now and have nothing but good things to say. I *really* wanted walnut but hesitated on the purchase and thought 'f*ck it I'll order in the AM when I wake up..". Boom - sold out. All they had was black full smooth out and honestly - I think I like these even more, they look _so_ good. Yeah it's the heavy lug sole and ten inch upper but you could wear these with a suit and _no one_ would give you a single odd look. Black tennis shoes would look far more out of place - both with the suit or with denim cargo pants. Rather than retyping I'll just copy part of what I commented on one of Keiths video ( the guy that cut them in half) I thought they were far too skinny then remembered I was wearing thick wool socks - put it on bare foot - too roomy. With a thinner sock it fit like a glove. I got the typical "White bite" despite trying several different lacing styles - eventually just skipped the first speed hook and forced the leather to bend outwards rather than against my ankle (it's ten inches of 7oz leather, it has to bend somewhere ) I might try lacing the first and skip the second speed hook instead. They are far from broken in so I'll play around. [I now lace all the hooks and its very comfy] Have worn them for about five hours total around the house/garage and leaf blowing the backyard [20 hours now - better every minute], they genuinely feel like leather socks with a sole attached (plus 3lbs lmao) HEAVY boots. I could smash a beer bottle and not even notice it.. Taking them off feels like getting out of a ball pit as a kid - I still feel them around my foot and immediately want to put them back on. I'm not pouring concrete or climbing poles or hiking through rainforests with a 40% grade like some of these guys but damn I'm sold. Will spend the extra 200+ for a custom order on my next pair just to support the company that let me buy these for 370, shipped to my doorstep in one week. Even right now typing this while sitting on my ass - they feel better than slippers.. and still stand by that. The only issues(subjective for the price) are a bowed out stich by the first eyelet on the inside of the right boot, and few stitches on the sole that 'bride' between lugs, rather than being inserted in between, on both. Zero concerns due to the inside stich, double sole stitch, glue, and screws lmao. If they were $600+ I might be a little butthurt but as far as I'm concerned it's purely aesthetic and I have zero complaints. If anyone reading this is hesitant ORDER THEM NOW before they stop offering them. 30 seconds of walking around and you will understand, even when they're new and stiff.
I do believe they use the lesser quality portions of the hide on these. Which is good so it doesn't go to waste and cheaper boots for those who need them! Hopefully the price stays where it's at!
Rose Anvil is the channel with the best boot reviews in my opinion, he does boot-cutting. Also Carl Murawsky reviews boots and work wear. Best regards from Austria.
I'll be getting these for wildland firefighting and I'm so excited cause Ive heard good things about Franks Boots. I will be getting The Patiriot Black 10” Boots
Just keep in mind the patriots are not rated for wildland firefighting. They do not have Kevlar stitching or the ❌ Vibram sole required for firefighting. The Franks Fire Commander is the boot you’re looking for. They keep most sizes of that boot in stock all the time so there should be no lead time for ordering, which is a plus.
I think they are doing them at α loss in hopes people make the jump to the standard line or custom boots. My next set of boots will likely be the franks patriot.
Im curious if the Patriots match up sizewize to the iron rangers. My iron rangers fit perfect & Im taking delivery of a pair of Patriots on Wednesday. I ordered them the same size as the IR'S. Btw- great channel. Keep it up.
I'm curious to see how these are holding up. Looks like they save by not hand stitching the boot and the interior leather is rough unlike with my Whites where the interior matches the exterior. Also with the stitching and soles not rated for fire that's probably an additional savings. Having said that I didn't need any of these features when I bought my SmokeJumpers but I was fortunate enough to get mine at a local shop heavily discounted for under $600. After a month of wearing them I'll never wear Redwings again there is just no comparison and I'd pay the $700 if I had to.
Whites is, to my knowledge the only PNW boot company left that hand stitches any boots. I’ve been wearing my patriots everyday for about 10 months now and they are in perfect shape. It’s pretty extraordinary. They are due for a cleaning and oiling so I’ll make an update video for that. So far they have exceeded my expectations by a long shot.
Did they have your size in stock when you bought them or did you have to wait for them to make them? I just bought a pair yesterday and I got the 12 to 16 week lead time and I’m just wondering if it really takes that long
So when you go on the franks website, there are two options for the patriots. The regular patriot selection and the in stock selection. If you click on the in stock option, scroll down and it will have a list of the sizes available in stock. My size happened to be in stock when I ordered them so I got my boots in about 5 days.
@@evergreenorganics right , mine weren’t in stock unfortunately, so I was just curious. They said that they give the standard lead time on patriots but that they rarely take that long so I was just curious if anyone knew how long they took. Thanks for the response
I wish the Patriot was available in bigger widths. A EE in a PNW is a true to size, but the EE in mass produced seems to very from each mfg. I unfortunately just bought the Red Wing 2217 ($340 🤦♂️) do the lack of width options.
I didn’t know they didn’t have the wider boot options. You could always order their commanders and they’ll be ready about the time those Redwings wear out! 😂😂😂
I understand they don’t do the mckay lockstitch with these boots which speeds the process up. Not a big deal tho other pnw don’t use the lockstitch even on their high end boots. I got 2 pairs of Patriots
at this time there are no boots available from Franks I have not contacted to see if they are going to restock and offer black smooth !! Your right its just promo to get people on Franks I think they are gone this is why I order Drews boots but they didn't offer a steal toe in the drew boots unless USA made $600
I just ordered the patriot. I wanted the rough out but the gal said they are only doing smoth. I hope to have them tomorrow. The boots are built almost the same as T1 commanders except the leather is not cut from the best part of the hide the sole. I have the commanders and going on the second year with them they need Vibrams, that's why I bought the Patriots. My commanders was tough to break in. I used the alcohol and water worked great ,sometimes just strait alcohol . Thanks for the videos. I too work in the woods in PNW.
You can use snoseal on the leather to make it water resistant but the only way to have truly water proof boots is to have a gortex liner which I don’t think any of the PNW boots have. With the snoseal though they are damn near water proof.
Franks would actually lose money doing a rebuild because of extra labor costs. When these builders do a rebuild, they’re not just thrown together real quick. It takes time and skill. It’s easier for both Franks & the customer to just do a new boot.
@@evergreenorganics A full rebuild, as done by Pacific NorthWest bootmakers, is just that. A rebuild. The whole boot is rebuilt. They remove and replace the worn toes and heels if needed, the boot is placed back onto a last, and then built again. The only thing original from your boots is that top part that covers your ankles, goes up your legs, and laces together. Sometimes even the lace eyelets and hooks are new. As opposed to a resole, where only the sole is replaced.
@@brandonin_ny I think the labor and materials cost would be about the same as any other boot. I don't see anything special about the Patriot model that would increase the labor involved, or use any extra leather.
@@evergreenorganics I don’t know I have looked at so many boot videos. I am getting this is a good Hiking/Hunting boot. The hunting boots cost 250. What are your thoughts!
I think if you're getting roughout you will less likely see any hide blemishes, but I prefer the look of the full grain and I think black ones just look like army boots. Most people probably don't need a giant logger heel. I hate that they all put a giant stamp on their uppers. Do they offer to leave this OFF if I pay the extra 3 or 4 hundred bucks for the custom ones?
Six months seems pretty standard, actually. Most people probably don't need the extra thick midsole or whatever, but then the JK ones where they try to cut this down so the flex is sooner is just result in too much where it peels up on the insole or something from what I've seen in other vids.
