Frank Sidoris of Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators recently stopped by the Gibson Showroom in Los Angeles, CA to test drives the brand new Les Paul Junior from Gibsons "Original Collection."
The new Les Paul Junior Tobacco Burst returns to the classic design that made it relevant, played and loved -- shaping sound across generations and genres of music. It pays tribute to Gibson's Golden Era of innovation and brings authenticity back to life.
Introduced as an affordable option for students and beginners in 1954, the Les Paul Junior has been embraced by musicians for over 60 years. The single cutaway slab mahogany body, single dogear P-90 pickup, single volume and tone controls all add up to a whole lot of guitar which is greater than the sum of its parts.
The fat 50's-style neck profile and wraparound bridge add to the equation for rock solid tone.

Really happy Gibson is back making classic guitars. But please, every 2019 clip, too much waffle, not enough focus on the guitars being played.

Very good player! I strongly suggest you all listen to the very best Les Paul Jr. playing in history, by Leslie West of Mountain: the studio recording versions of "Don't Look Around", "For Yasgur's Farm", and "Theme For An Imaginary Western". He got sounds out of the Junior that no one has ever been able to truly copy, and was the progenitor of the best Les Paul Jr. sounds. Everyone enjoy!
@willscott5841
@willscott5841 Год назад
I have a Junior for the simple reason that it’s simple. The concept to me seems to make so much more sense than having a guitar with 20 pickups and 30 knobs/switches with the headache of having to remember every detail that will either make or break your sound… lol I’m just joking of course. I do love standard LP’s, but the idea that I can pull any tone I want from this design that’s also easy to memorize makes it the most appealing and most versatile axe I’ve ever owned

Wtf he's so good. All I saw him do at the concert was play simple rhythm, which I aknlowedge as an artform by itself. But damn Slash, give this man some screentime!
@Nghilifa
@Nghilifa 5 лет назад
His ego (Slash's) won't allow it. Even Izzy commented on it back in 88 saying that Slash "secretly" wished he'd play in a 1gtr band.
@nerffyb7298
@nerffyb7298 5 лет назад
Slash is the furthest thing from egotistical, pretty humble and genuine dude if you ask me all things considered.... Also it is Slash ft. the conspirators, just sayin.... But Frank is a ripper no question! It's pretty much wn identical scenario with the current GNR lineup, Richard Fortus is a beast in his own right.... One could also say Izzy played second fiddle, which couldn't be further from the truth, he was one of the bands main writers, and put out some of the most intricate rhythm riffs....
@Nghilifa
@Nghilifa 5 лет назад
@@nerffyb7298 Then why is it that Frank wasn´t involved in the writing of the latest album, why doesn´t he have any leads? He´s clearly got the chops. Why is it that in basically every band Slash´s been with, he was the sole lead player? Don´t get me wrong, I love his playing, but what Izzy said isn´t exactly untrue. Assuming that Slash has no ego whatsoever doesn´t make any sense.
@nerffyb7298
@nerffyb7298 5 лет назад
@@Nghilifa I agree with you wholeheartedly when it comes to Frank playing a bigger part, but keep in mind this is the gig he auditioned for.... I'm pretty sure he knew what he was getting into when he won the position.... As for the bit about Izzy, those were different times, different dynamic withing the group.... Not to mention they were very young and had boatloads of cash, oh and were fucked up 25hrs a day..... So yes, all their heads were probably the size of a hot air balloon during that period.... There was a time where they were THE biggest band in the world. Nonetheless your points are all valid!!!
@nerffyb7298
@nerffyb7298 5 лет назад
Side note, recently I've come across audio recordings of the isolated guitar parts from Appetite for Destruction, I thought I knew that album inside and out when it came to who ws playing what, I was pleasantly surprised and completely fooled at the same time by realizing that some of the parts I thought slash was playing were actually Izzy, and vice versa.... Check it out!

Gibson can you guys make an affordable Les Paul junior singlecut. If you have one around $800. I would definitely buy it. Screw it i still buy one even if is $1499. But there should be more in my opinion.

Personally, I found the Junior & the Tribute models, to be the easiest Les Pauls to play. Nothing against the Standard, but I much rather have the guitar to be more comfortable to play over fighting it, in order to get that iconic Les Paul tone, in my opinion.

I’ve wanted a Les Paul Jr since I saw it in the Sweetwater catalog in 2012 for $699 but I bought a Les Paul Studio instead for $1399. I had another chance in 2015 when the Jr was listed for $899, but I passed due to all the 2015 changes. It’s 2019 and I have a chance again but the price is $1499. Using an online inflation calculator a Studio should be $1560 and a Jr should be $971. I know inflation isn’t the only thing that drives prices but a $528 increase? I’m on the fence. A Les Paul Studio is $1499 not $2088. I really want an authentic Gibson Les Paul Jr but may have to look at affordable copies I mean alternatives.
@tomrosa4248
@tomrosa4248 3 года назад
Yes, I understand what you are saying the Jr just jumped up in price so fast. The Epiphone version is affordable but it will never play like a Gibson I did think about getting one in 2015 but instead I got a LP Classic for double the money. The Jr with an Ebony finish will be my next guitar.

what exactly is going on with the string alignment, the fat E is miles away from the fretboard edge, the thin E is right next to it??? looks like a Chibson
@Chris_Moncada
@Chris_Moncada 5 лет назад
Good call on that. I think it's because of the wrap around tailpiece. Alignment on strings can get wonky.
@HatRock
@HatRock 5 лет назад
That's exactly the first thing I noticed. The close ups are just abruptly cut when they get to that point, but then they do a down-up pan and it clearly is completely misaligned. Man, I can't believe it.
@HatRock
@HatRock 5 лет назад
@@Chris_Moncada Indeed. But for demonstration purposes in this video they should had the tailpiece marked or at least for those close-up shots make align the strings for them to look correct.
