I believe in God but share most of the same objections to the god that is portrayed by the religious establishment. Being that he's in the UK, I cut him a little more slack for failing to find the middle ground than I do his American counterparts who are also less articulate.
He's not really failing to find the middle ground, just as you believe in God and can state it, he doesn't and states it as well. He'd be selling himself short if he didn't stick to his beliefs. I do get what you're saying though
Very good song but wouldn't of gone very well if there was a bunch of religious people in the crowd franks lyrics are sometimes riskey but genius can't wait to ever see him in concert for the first time
As a Cristian i find this song amazing, i get the fact that was is being sung is saying that there is no god but at the same time i really do feel that the song is contradictory within its self. Its hard to see i guess but by saying there is no God he is almost saying that there is a God. It is almost like God is speaking to me with this song, i just can not get it out of my head!!!!

There is no God, it's about the here and now, be good and be cool to others because it's the right thing not because your imaginary friend told you to. The song is about not needing God and that we need to take care of each other. Frank Turner is fucking brilliant and you totally missed the point

John C The standard of right and wrong and ethics in general are based on our natural empathy and our innate desire for what's best for society. Our empathy and morality came from natural selection; people who were empathetic and cared for their fellow humans were more likely to mate with their fellow humans. I'm no expert so I can't explain it perfectly but that's the general idea.

What about people who tlhink there is a god? Are we to not include them in this as well? Seems like an atheist preacher. I know I'm not a hipster or cool for not liking him. Just leave it as a mystery rather than absolutism. Seems like a line something like "Now we can go kill all the believers" could be added quite easily to this song. That’s called projection. A line that called for death to the believers would be the total opposite of the message of this song. I suggest you listen again without prejudice.
