Every tune on all 3 LP's in this series are better than most guitarist have ever played, yet Frank is still an unknown. THANK YOU MUCHLY for promoting his works...!

I absolutely love this, Frank on bouzouki Luc Ponty on baritone violin....you don't need anything else. They take us on a great, sombre at times journey, it's beautiful too for me. The bouzouki is associated with Greece and is a member of the medieval Lute family. The violin adds to the eiree sound. The title translates to baseless rumour of the day rather than duck of the day, lol. if it is duck, it's no lame duck,lol. From 72, I think Frank was still in recovery mode from the Rainbow incident. I truly believe that incident, musically for Frank, was a godsend. He had time to reflect, fuck those 2 pricks Flo and Eddie off and get back to creative music like this. His albums from here on were light years ahead of what went previously for a few albums. Another good choice Peter, well done..for my taste that is 🙂
My take on the Flo & Eddie Mothers is that was what Frank wanted to do at the time. The band never dictated what Frank played. He chose his musicians and wrote for their abilities. I'm not a huge fan of that era, although as with all of Frank's various incarnations, he got great musical performances out of them all. I'm curious how much longer he would've kept that lineup going if the Rainbow Theater incident didn't end that era. As he changed direction often, certainly wouldn't have lasted much past 1972 end of touring season. I do feel, as you stated, that the recovery from that push from the stage did give Frank time to reflect and compose more serious music and, in that way, it was a godsend of sorts.

@@Royale_with_Cheeze Agree with what you say mainly. Frank controlled what he did. Personally, I think he was going through a phase and those two fed his infantile side. It's so over used on here about him that he was a genius. I believe he had moments of genius and even that was flawed. There are some mud flappers on here that every note he wrote was genius. Relatively speaking, because of the amount of stuff he wrote, there's a lot of shit too. Incidentally, if I had gone to see Zappa at that time and he started to play The Beatles "I wanna hold your hand", I might have been tempted to throw him into the orchestra pit!😆
This is reminiscent of Zappa's more experimental music. Remember, first and foremost, he's a composer, one inspired by avant garde sound scapists like Edgard Varèse, Igor Stravinsky, and Anton Webern. If you're looking for more material along this line, Civilization Phaze III.
Sifa is by far my favorite reactor to music videos. The way she just closes her eyes and disappears into the groove is so compelling. I would love to know what she is really thinking in those interludes.
you just hit on one of the secrets to Zappa's original approach to composoiton . ALL (well ... not all... but a damn hell of a lot) of Frank's music is based on the speech pattern of humans).t comes from his love of eastern music. Indian music has a thing called a raga that uses carnatic singing and Fibonacci patterns.. In French “Canard du Jour” means “duck of the day”. You see “menu du jour” signs at restaurants. However the English meaning of canard is a false or misleading story. So I think Frank probably meant to play with that word’s meaning in the title.

"Shut Up and Play Yer Guitar" is a great box set, full of variety. The other Zappa guitar compilations are, for me, lacking in variety even although the playing is superb.

@@Joe-Flow It's amazing that people say I have eclectic tastes..I remember a guy at work said that and I asked him does he listen top jazz-traditional-beebop-fusion---NOPE...sKA MUSIC --NUP....orchestral music-NUP...DELTA BL;UES...NUP...Traditional R&B,,traditional indian...oriental..eastern european,,,celtic music..bluegrass..on and on ...but he used that word ''eclectic''as if he was out there,,,all he listened to was radio FM format popular music...
@@Frunobulax74 A friend once told me, "People don't know what they like. They like what they know." For people who only get their music from FM pop radio, they don't know what other music is out there. I'm just the opposite. I couldn't tell you who is who in pop music today. That's a limitation in it's own way too, but the pop music of today will be forgotten in two months anyway.
