The final falsetto solo at the end from the keyboard player is still one of my favorite vocal solos of all time. It's equal parts perfectly pitched and genius, and totally goofy, over the top and hilarious. It epitomizes Frank Zappa. Musically brilliant and virtuosic, and completely and truly funny
I love the form of Zappa's universe, the shape, the taste, what it lets in my heart, in opposite of many modern musics. No matter of what I listen to, I always go back to Zappa. The notes are so perfect, so clean, so funny and serious at the same time :D
The GREATEST overall composer & rock guitarist of all time!! I love my Dad for bringing me up on FZ, and for him taking me to the '88 show for my 1st ever concert when I was 9. FZ lives!!
Good point but nicotine doesn't alter consciousness or cause behavioral changes (aside from seeking behavior), which is why Frank objected to drugs so much. Nevertheless, nicotine is highly addictive and damaging, by some accounts it causes more physical harm than heroin. There is a good chance that if it weren't for nicotine, Frank would still be with us.
Oh nicotine is the only drug I can’t kick, I’ve done snow/rocks, ice, Flakka/Bath Salts, PCP/PCE, benzos, hard opioids, and nicotine is what I’m stuck on
I just love zappa he's so hilarious 😅, his lyrics you almost can't take him seriously but then you half to because him and the band were such fantastic musicians
I like the words, but it's the same as you say. . . . so perfect, so clean, so funny and serious. It's such a relief when someone is so unconfused as Zappa.
Put on the headsets and enjoy the auto panner that we put on the bass guitar for this song. This is also from the Dub Room Special that we did for what was going to be HBO but later had its on Digital Hi-Fi tape release. footnote from Mark Pinske.
I love when the riots are at it's bloodiest (bloody bitch, hehe) And he is being briefed of what is going on outside, Frank says "that means I need to get my cigarettes" Miss you so much frank.
what a fucking legendary composer. when i discovered we get to study zappa on my music course, well, lets say, a whole three hours focusing on zappa?? AWESOME
>Ike Willis singing a song that's against cocaine use. Lol. Love you, Ike. Also there's a riot during this song in Palermo and Zappa needs to just get his cigarettes.
While your accountants tell you 'yes, yes, yes, you make expensive ugliness. How do you do it?-- Let me guess, cocaine decisions.' Lol, my favorite part.
This is the song they were playing in Sicily when the riot started. I guess it got pretty hairy just getting the band out unscathed and ended Vai’s time in FZ. How fitting
@juggernaut422 Yeah mate that's Frank with the mic and the black hair and Mo. Watch for the sly smiles, when it happens you know something cool is on it's way.
It may have once been commonplace to sign to a record deal but I've just released like 4 albums in 6 months for $4.99 each global distribution! Lazy man world!
For those of you who don't understand the lyrics, Frank didn't do drugs, he was mocking them. this song was about the promoters and his manger that made BAD decisions because of too much cocaine and those bad decisions cost Frank a lot of money. He HATED it! If you listen to the words close you will understand.
@alvisecarloni this is from the 'dub room special' video i think, its not the whole concert but clips from different performances, mainly the 74 band and the 80 something band. good video.
He was a great jazz musician who was purposely filed into rock genre because he would have showed up the jazzicians at the time. He was on a word trek to find out who misfiled him. Thus his lyrics. In this songs rendition he was figuring maybe the file clerk was on some sort of narcotic. The end.
my first was joe's garage. any of the "you can't do that on stage" , "broadway the hard way" or " Lather " ..... and on and on... honestly if you are not fully into it avoid "thing fish" and "weasels ripped my flesh" they're heavy going - in my opinion ;-)
