You're looking at some of the best musicians ever to cross the face of earth. The Fowlers and Underwoods, George Duke, Jean-Luc Ponty, Ralph Humphry. Zappa played with dozens of musicians, all the best at their instrument.
@@bwana-ma-coo-bah425 Beatles and him are VERY different - Zappa was a different composer too - like Varese, Strawinsky and so on by modern 12-Tone-Music...
@@michaelthomas8592 yes I agree the Beatles are very different to Zappa. Zappa is for the intellectual, The Beatles are for the everyday people. (jeez I hope you found that funny) Only I will know if I was serious. (again, jeez I hope you found that funny) enjoy the following, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vbHMgqHtAy0.html
George Duke on keys is killer. All of Zappa artists are phenomenal. Frank has been my man for over 45 years. Used to see him every chance I could at the Uptown in Chicago. Try out some black napkins my friend Teez.
These were some of the absolute best musicians of the day in this band. I saw this band on New Years eve a few months after this gig and had one of the greatest times ever.
@@bzbzob Out to Lunch is outstanding! I found it because I'm a Tony Williams fan. I have all his early blue note recordings. Granchan Monchor lll 'Something Else' is cool. Eric Dolphy on Andrew Hill's Point of Departure... Richard Davis and Tony Williams are also on it. Kenny Durham instead of Hubbard on trumpet.
You likely will never hear anyone produce music like Frank Zappa. He was a different breed of artist. What I love the most about his songs are that they tell a story. Do not read me a story, instead, play me a Frank Zappa song. I’ll figure it out eventually. Thank you.
Did I tell you... or did I tell you... keep up the Zappa and you're going to have a huge support. And the more strange or obscure the song is... the more they will like it... now... In this moment, I am struggling with money, so I won't be able to make requests. HOWEVER... I would like to SUGGEST :-) a song... it is a song that has almost all of Frank Zappa's different styles in one song....(almost) the name of the song is "Drowning Witch" it has Frank's weird funny vocals... it has the complicated interludes with Xylophone... it has the great musicians laying down the funk... and most of all it has not one, but TWO completely different syles of back to back guitar solo's by Frank. It's over 12 minutes long. So I don't know if you want to go that far down the rabbit hole yet, but if you're brave... it's a hot one.
My favorite part of this video is when they cut to 2-shot shot of George Duke on keys and Zappa and the lady in the background starts laughing and shaking her head in disbelief.
Glad you found Zappa man. Been a fan since 73. You will have an endless supply of music to review with Frank. Enjoy listening to some of the world's best musicians play superbly composed, unique music. Every song is aimed at someone or some group. No one was safe from Frank. If you thought you were hiding something Frank was there to rip off the veil. 😂
Oh it’s Zappa now, huh? Between this and all the BBoys love, you’re trying to become my favorite reactor. I legit appreciate your insight into the lyrics and music in the reactions you do. Zappa is dope, he’s hilarious, and his guitar playing is legendary. This is a great entry point into his work, because a lot of it is hella weird, lol. Keep doing what you do, man. Love.
When the FZ-gitar-solo began (and you remarked it!) I KNEW, you WOULD BE BACK IN TWO SECONDS... and I did it right!!! EVERY Frank Zappa-Solo is a MOVIE TO YOUR HEAD!
Yeah man!!!! ZAPPA! Love George Duke...RIP... I play drums... This is my bag! Mahavishnu Orchestra with Billy Cobham on drums instrumental music. Him and George did some stuff. Live 76 in Europe. The live concert video is on RU-vid. Frank is something else. Nobody like Frank
Subscribed ! You were really feeling the solos on this one, dude ! Keep on with FZ. How about trying 'Watermelon In Easter Hay' next, for a more gentle vibe from Frank.
yo my dude, i was lucky was to see him play live 5 times, all of his music was a satirical take on American political and social issue of his time, fuuken genius. check out the best band ya never heard in your life albums /tour from 88, dope
Frank would pay musicians to practice for 3 months 8hours a day then go on the road for year .You should try a pound for a brown off the yellow shark album.
Montana, Harder Than Your Husband and Muffin Man for conventional songs, Trouble Every Day and Brown Shoes Don't Make it for some early social commentary by him. He covers everything from Do-Wop to eclectic Jazz so always be ready for something grand. I saw Frank & band 4 times over the years, every show an amazing experience.
Zappa made a business out of getting some of the best musicians together and bringing out the beasts in them. The whole idea of rock is supposed to be freedom, rebellion, and doing whatever the hell you want, but Zappa took approached it with the seriousness of a conductor leading the London Symphony Orchestra or Berlin Philharmoniker.
August 1973. I was in high school. This was in Stockholm, Sweden. It was quite cold. Zappa complained that there were several wrong notes due to that. I was in the audience(!), outdoor. And it was part of recording a Swedish TV program. Several songs was released on vinyl much later so this was a "new" Frank Zappa. Me and my friends was realy amazed. So different from the early experimental music, the jazz rock period, the theatrical period with Flo and Eddie, and now this! The Bee Bop Tango was not released until a year later on (Roxy and Elsewhere). That tango was in my mind on the way home.
March 16, 2021. 278likes - 0 thumbs down. Looks like you have found your demographic friend. Keep up reacting to Frank; you will be endlessly astounded, surprised, delighted, amused... and of course confused and confounded!! :D
Frank never did drugs...100% on that. He didn't care what they did on their days off. As long as it wasn't picking up a heroin habit...🤦♂️... Then.. Their out. Your right Frank cared about the guys in all his many bands. He insisted on them being sober for the show, after that he didn't care what they did as long as they weren't letting it effect the music. Most of those guys didn't do drugs anyways besides weed and beer.
Also Check out some of Frank's long pieces like Billy the Mountain or The Adventures Of Greggery Peccary, NO ONE but Frank ever did long, funny, musical 'Radio Plays' like that.
Imagine the brain layout of ppl like me who grew up in the 60s and 70s. It was crazy good times concerning music and other arts - all analog (well mostly) ;-) You choose a satisfying and mind opening route if you follow this stuff ;-)
You stumbled into low key the best band of the 1970s here. This iteration of Zappa’s band, with the GREAT Jean-Luc Ponty on violin and the GREAT George Duke on keys...there is no better band in rock music.
YOU NEED TO SEE BABY SNAKES THE MOVIE PRONTO!!!!! OR THE BEST ZAPPA RECORDED ALBUM CALLED, (ZAPPA THE BEST BAND YOU NEVER HEARD), HEAVY DUTY JUTY!!!!!!!
this is probably the best line up Frank ever had. if ever you want to increase your subscriber numbers. Frank Zappa will get you there. check out mom and dad of the "were only in it for the money album" that will show how diverse this composer was. "somebody in that audience knows what we are doing and that person is getting off on it beyond his or her wildest comprehension"
If you liked this try Stink Foot or Zombie Wolf. Pretty much anything off Apostrophe or Over Night Sensation among many many other songs. He only has the best musicians in his band The keyboards was George Duke - nominated for 7 grammys and winning 2. the two he won were for vocals and had it not been for Zappa pushing him to sing more that never happens. Jean Luc Ponty is the greatest electric violinist ever IMO. Listen to 50/50 off Over Night - truly amazing. He singlehandedly introduced violin to jazz. His work with Duke and with Mahavishnu Orchestra is off the charts. He has also worked with artists like Al Di-meola and Stanley Clarke. Steve Vai (one of he best rock/jazz guitarists ever) talks about being auditioned by Zappa. I will let him tell the story - here is the video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Xx1RguHA4XE.html
AND NOW, my dear Teez, WATCH OUT: at 06:28 minutes of YOUR video - THERE in the background... THERE'S R U T H ! (Ruth Underwood, married with IAN UNDERWOOD the sax-player!)
Essentially just a blues number. People ask me who my favorite blues guitarist is and I say Frank Zappa, you can keep your boring-ass Stevie Ray Vaughan I'll take Zappa every time. Frank is fond of the triple solo. Try "50/50" or "Ya Honza" for more triple solo goodness
