Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on RU-vid, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on RU-vid. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on RU-vid, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.

As I heard it , Frank gets the tunes in his head , writes it out note for note , then gives it to the band and says play it , so if you can't read music , you are not in the band ! Excellent musicians !!

Tina Turner and The Ikettes are singing background vocals on this album and The Mother's of Inventions " Overnight Sensation " They were recorded at the same time at Ike's Bolic Sound Studios.

This was my first Zappa album i ever bought. it was in 1974. I did not have any clear idea what the lyrics were about but the music and obscure words together got me and have haunted me ever since and been part of my mind..cheers from the happiest country of the World FNLD

Love this album. It was my introduction to Zappa's music, after hearing about him and reading of him for a couple of years. I was, and still am, simply delighted with everything about the album, though I have to admit that this is my favorite side of the album. Fun reaction, again. The thing with Zappa is that, while he very seriously never took himself too seriously, he did take the music seriously, so while his compositions have many twists and turns and much humor and plenty of confusion, the musical performance(s) of the players involved is always exquisite, as Zappa pushed their capabilities as hard and as far as he pushed his own.

"Nanook of the North" was a documentary film shot in 1920's or 30's. I saw it in late 60's(as FZ likely did too) in HS sociology class. It was about native North American tribe culture in the arctic. It became somewhat of a cultish film and I'm sure Frank was having some fun remembering it. My friends and I laughed our asses off when this album came out and are still big Zappa fans to this day. It's certainly enjoyable seeing young people experiencing this fine music for their first time and reacting just as we did.

I've loved Zappa since I was about 9 years old , and that was over 40 years ago !! Frank is another one of my guitar gods !! He is a musical genius !!!!

That's rad. I was around 24 when I started collecting his cds in the 90s from Columbia House. And now it's on many platforms and I'm familiar with like 80 FZ albums or something 🎸☕🕊️

Weird Al is a Zappa fan and has asong called Genius In France, which is a Zappa pastich that includes Dweezil on guitar. Al tells a story about meeting Frank and asking for an autograph. Frank obliged then asked for Al's autograph for his son, Dweezil.

I SAW THIS INCARNATION of ZAPPA's AllStar band Lineup Live in 1974 TRIPPING on the 2nd Row 8 feet from the low stage in an Auditorium. IT WAS SO INTENSE, DENSE, and unbelievably complex and FUN AF....🎉 IT felt like a NONSTOP electrical virtuoso circus injection for over 2hrs of sonic insanity

I too saw this lineup at the Riverside Theater in Milwaukee in ‘74. I was 15 and this was my first concert experience. I have never been the same since. And that is for the better! Life changing.

Thanks for doing the full suite. Most reactors do the individual segments, sometimes from live performances. But hearing the whole song on the album is the best intro to this song. I have a particular memory of playing this song for a musician friend of mine - and I'd say it was a life-changing moment for him.

Other Zappa stories: The Illinois Enema Bandit; most of Fillmore East - June 1971; Stinkfoot; Dinah Moe Hum; The Muffin Man; Greggery Peccary; Punkie's Whips, and the notable Billy the Mountain. Not to mention the entirety of Joe's Garage, as one story over three albums.

First thing by Zappa I ever heard. About 14 years old. I was memorized by it. Sure the lyrics were err, interesting, but the music and musicianship blew me away. Especially all the percussion.

'Weird Al' was heavily influenced by Zappa. The song Genius in France is an homage to Zappa.

I saw Zappa at the University of IL. in the Seventies. He had sounded great and had a show to go along with it. he was a big Spike Jones Fan. That's where he got a lot of his stage style from. If you saw Spike Jones you'd understand Zappa's humor more.

Put a smile on my face to see your genuine delight hearing this for the first time! It’s weird storytelling for sure, not a traditional resolution but just a stream-of-conciousness things happening first from Nanook’s viewpoint and then from the trapper’s viewpoint. There’s an opera masterpiece hidden in here somewhere, I’m sure.

For a rare treat please check out Frank Zappa on The Steve Allen Show in 1963, where he plays a Bicycle, with help from Steve and Steve's show band. Zappa encouraged the band to not play anything musical. LOL.

Great clip. Steve was pretty cool for a square-looking guy. Pioneer of all late-night shows, I guess. There's another clip of Frank conducting an audience, in Australia maybe. Black and white. I met Frank in Boston once, and we talked a bit about some German lyrics in Joe's Garage II. Fairly normal guy. Friendly. Generous. Genius.

"I dreamed I was an Eskimo...", yes, it's all a dream. There is the 1922 documentary film, Nanook of the North, so at the time the name was a cultural touchstone. Cosmic Debris is a great song, another story told by Frank.

Zappa is really all about the music. Frank said on numerous occasions that he'd be perfectly happy writing nothing but instrumental music, but he obviously knew that it's easier to pay the bills if you have lyrics that people can sing along with. So to compromise between his own ambitions and the quest for commercial appeal, he wrote highly complex music with very silly lyrics. Not stupid lyrics, mind you, but words that mostly made fun of various aspects of social, political, sexual and religious life. Which is fair enough, really.

an amazing composer,lyricist and, most importantly, one of the most underrated guitarists ever (except to zappa fans who know) . the albums "overnight sensation" and "apostrophe" are some of his best work. his music makes you laugh,makes you think,and makes you say, "huh?" , but it's all incredible.

Nice to get back into some Zappa. Frank had GREAT musicians.....think Chester Thompson (drummer for this tune and also Inca Roads and several albums) who went on to play drums with Phil Collins for 40 years. Chester said the rehearsals were crazy long and intense. He said the only other band to come close was Genesis. Frank Zappa did so many compositions it makes your head spin. His sense of humor is insane. Love his sexually charged satire. (you are not alone) Nothing was out-of-bounds for this genius of farce and the inane.

I love songs that make me laugh. Frank Zappa was good at twisted humor. In addition he was a great musician/guitarist. We lost him far too soon. Nice reaction. Great choice 🌺✌️

Zappa is an accomplished musician believe it or not. He read music, has had all star bands and has written all kinds of music ranging from funky/weird to rock to jazz to jazz-fusion. Frank is fooling around here. He doesn't take life too seriously until he takes life seriously. Frank has recorded some seriously outstanding music and used to appear on political TV show to argue politics with the establishment talking heads. We lost Frank to prostate cancer. A great loss.

A musically perfect cartoon for your ears. Frank was never really interested in lyrics, but if that's the way to sell his music, it had to be satirically funny. The music is what's really important. Another Zappa ``cartoon" but much more challenging is "The Adventures Of Greggery Peccary" - but I'd suggest to stall it until you're more familiar with Zappa's signature style.

Old Zappa fan here. This is a good one though after 40+ years, now the Yellow Snow monologue seems a bit long. I wish I could go back in time and listen to it for the 1st time like you just did. But I'm still amazed at all the sounds: vocals, synth, gtr, etc. he fit in around it. And I've never tired of the unison melody he wrote for Ruth and George in St. Alfonso's. That's just masterful writing and playing. He was extremely productive. There's all kinds of great music out there. Instrumentals: Peaches En Regalia, Watermelon in Easter Hay, cuts from "the Grand Wazoo". Vocals: Joe's Garage, Oh No, a lot from "You Are What You Is", pretty much anything from "One Size Fits All" which I happen to like more than "Apostrophe". Frank's been gone for 30 years but his music still lives with me.

You don't need to be strange to interpret Zappa's music as perverse or eccentric. It just is. And this is nothing compared to some of his stuff. Try Dinah Moe Humm, or Dirty Love. Bobby Brown goes Down is another. But he had so many genres. Mostly odd jazz styles combined with humorous lyrics and voice. The instrumentation is out of this world, and his guitar. Nobody could play the complex music they played, he had the best musicians.

Frank Zappa was a graduate of the Julliard School of Music. The first section of this song is composed in a highly unusual 4/7 beat rhythm, very oddl for an American musician. Zappa's lyrics are totally Dada (i.e. meaningless) for a guy who described himself as a conservative in 1980s TV interviews. I loved his stuff back in the early 70s. I occasionally hung out in the blacklight room of the coolest guy in the neighborhood. Whenever I put on a Zappa album, everybody would visibly groan.

I'm sorry to correct you but Frank was not a graduate of the Juilliard School of music Frank's formal music training other than high school classes consisted of three months worth of lessons and tutoring other than that he was completely self taught by utilizing the library, Ruth Underwood attended Julliard.

For me, Zappa's lyrics are more often surreal (Montana) than funny (this one), but they are sharply mocking (Cosmik Debris, Trouble Every Day) just about as often. The music is great, but very unconventional, so I suspect sometimes that the lyrics are intended to serve as a greased slide into the music.

Not just you lol. And very mild lyrics by Frank's standards. He chose the guitar because he thought it was the most profane sounding instrument and his lyrics frequently attempt to push the boundaries of what is acceptable or typical in music.

As much as I enjoy and appreciate the musicianship and avant-garde arrangements, I just can't get by Zappa's propensity for vacuous even puerile lyrics. He'd been better off just playing instrumentals.

That was Frank's preference (instrumentals) but was told no one would buy his music without lyrics. That led him to write ridiculous lyrics. He has numerous whole albums that are instrumentals only.
