One of the things that I really appreciate about your reactions is that you listen to the whole song without interrupting. That is certainly one of my main reasons for watching you. Reactors that talk during a solo or stop the song every 15 seconds lose me pretty quickly. I also feel that I have commented so often that I am reaching that "uncle Bill" status. The term Conceptual Continuity (part of these lyrics) was used by Frank (the same way he used the term "The Big Note") to describe how everything he writes, has written and yet-to-be-written pieces are all actually part of the same larger piece of music to include everything he as a composer would write. BTW, a different mix than the original. I think I like it better, but now I have to grab that vinyl and put it on again! Poodles, and arf, arf, arf are recurring themes as well.

How does Frank get that cool tone in the guitar solo? He's using an acoustic guitar with a magnetic pickup on it and a Barcus-Berry on the bridge. The Barcus-Berry is going into one channel, and the magnetic pickup is going to a Mu-tron III envelope filter and the other channel, so you have a sharp attack and an enveloped attack. I used to have a Mu-Tron III back in the 70s, it was cool, I used it on bass, as some other bass players did. I think this solo by Frank was the first time I heard a guitar player use it.

Is there a wah-wah pedal being used too, or is it only what you described? I know Zappa used wah-wah at times, and I always thought he was using it here, but you tell me. I've been a Zappa's fan for nearly 40 years ,like from my high school years, and The Apostrophe album was one of the first albums l listened to ,l was blown away by the genius of this great Sicilian who personalised the Italian high creativity and the American open-mindedness ,it's no wonder that apart from being an extraordinary band leader and an immense guitar player ,he's also considered by many serious classical music critics as one of the most complex and prolific modern composers in the US during the 20th century. Apostrophe was my first Zappa album back in '74. My reaction was wow this is something special. It's the same reaction I had when I heard Rubber Soul for the first time as a kid. The guitar solo in Stinkfoot is relatively short for Frank but it's iconic. I love the Eastern flourish almost Chinese. Back in the day the beginning of the solo was a signal to fire up. Forty-seven years later I don't fire up but I love it even more. I'm so happy to see young people discovering Frank. And Sifa, I understand why you appreciate Frank's solos. ok... you hit on a VERY complex part of the Frank Zappa universe. Conceptual Continuity. It is part of a bigger concept called the "PROJECT OBJECT" Now... if I really tried to explain the whole thing... no one would take the time to read the 25 paragraphs. But.. put simply and reduced to one theme... Conceptual Continuity means that anything you hear...from any part of any Zappa song... can be randomly connected to any other Zappa song and it will still be a VALID PEICE OF MUSIC WITH A CONSISTENT MESSAGE because for Zappa... everything was one peice of music....everything....it's ALL connected.. For example... if you connect yo mama with green rosetta... it still works... in Zappa's PROJECT OBJECT. This is a discussion of Zappa's music that goes WAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY beyond what most music listeners are prepared to confront.

Nice reaction you guys. How does it feel to have got through your first Frank Zappa album. Now that you’ve reacted to the whole thing it’s now time to hear it from front to back in one sitting and perhaps even put it on high rotation in the car. I think it’s time for you guys to check out the poodle lecture, seeing we’re on the poodle thing. It’s set to the Stink foot Groove, and Sifa, you’ll love listening to Frank talk and interact with his favourite audience at the Palladium in New York. Keep enjoying Andrew.

Before, you didn't know what the crux of the biscuit was, even though it's right there in the album title. Now you know. Though clearly he's talking about contractions, not possession and extensions.

Apostrophe is a classic album. I think I bought this damn thing three times. One of the most amazing guitarist you'll ever hear. You can come close to imitating a lot of guitarist, but no one could ever come close to his style.

Yeah how slow am i,now i have 8 Zappa albums but in Zappa fan terms that only make me like a lightweight Zappa fan kind of part time fan this and Sheik yerbooty are 2 of my fave i bought this when it came out and its taken me all these years (MAJOR DUMB) to realize of course shouldnt wouldnt couldnt ect all have apostrophes (my keyboard dosnt have an apostrophe)

Frank generally didn't care for putting lyrics in songs, as he didn't do so for the first seven years writing only instrumental pieces. But Frank being frank, as in straight forward, he said, what the fuck? Let's troll the people best I can while I'm putting some words to these songs. Sick.

Chris boulet has it in his earlier comment. Frank had said many times that all of his music is linked, part of the larger whole. I think it would be hard for us mere mortals to see and explain the the link, it would be like asking a chimp to explain Quantum Physics, lol. I have said previously on your channel that i love all things Frank. I get it but can't explain it, lol.

I'll help some Zappa freaks who don't understand what he is conveying.. a·pos·tro·phe 2 (ə-pŏs′trə-fē) n. The direct address of an absent or imaginary person or of a personified abstraction, especially as a digression in the course of a speech or composition. This is a secondry meaning to the word apostrophe;.... and digression are semantically close.
