That is wild and crazy! Mary Shelley literally spent like every waking moment of her life at her mother’s grave, it’s cool, and surprising and sad all at the same time. Who would have thought the place to take that next step of love would be in a cemetery on your mother’s grave! Holy heckens this is one for the books! ❤thank you besties for this beautiful and quite intriguing adventure! Love you both! 👻❤️🦇💚🧛🏻‍♂️🥰

Mary Shelley certainly wrote an amazing novel. I see "Frankenstein" as not only a horror story, but also a tragedy. Definitely a tale of the consequences of attempting to overcome the natural order of things. Another great adventure, indeed, Michael and Jessica! Happy...Halloween!! 💚💚💚

I think it's incredible that you got to visit the grave of the founder of Science fiction and Horror herself. Mary Shelley is an incredible writer and without her, we would never have two of the best genres in existence.

Mary Shelley led a “ strange life “. I always wondered how could someone at age 18, write such a dark book like Frankenstein ? I didn’t know her mom died not much longer after Shelley was born . This may have had an impact on her growing up without a mom . 👩 I wonder what all went on in her life up until the age of 18? Thank you for an interesting walk into another historical figure . Happy Halloween . And may 2024 bring you both joy and happy memories . Warm wishes and hugs to both of you , and your families . Xoxoxoxo

As I'm watching this, I have the volume up to maximum because I'm sitting in the dark, and there is a massive, MASSIVE thunderstorm outside, and I can barely hear a thing as lightning flashing keeps illuminating my room, it's metal as f☆ck. Perfect Frankenstein weather, it's alive! ALIVE!

Hey guys, great video, I am a descendent of a man named Conrad, Johan dippel, he is the person who inspired the character of Dr. Frankenstein. Look him up. He is a very interesting breed. He was an alchemist and a Satanist I just about everything else you can think of. He was not trying to bring someone back from the dead like Dr. Frankenstein was, but he did do his experiments at Frankenstein castle which our family used to own long ago. He was trying to create an elixir of life to Grant himself and his followers, eternal life.

That was really informative and very atmospheric. I live about 40 miles away from Bournemouth, so will have to visit soon. The pub you visited is part of a chain that has pubs in most towns, but not with the same theme. A lot of them seem to have gained inspiration from the hotel from the shining with garish, swirly carpets and wooden chandeliers haha.

Thank you, both…. I don’t know how to say this. After all, we don’t know one another. Tonight I learned that my very best friend , whom I have known for decades, and over the very last year became so close that she was my very best friend. And we even both kind of started to come very very close to falling in love with one another. Last night her 12 year old daughter used my good friends account to connect with me and tell me that my friend/her mother had passed away suddenly. I am moving through the realms of surreal and tragic and beyond sad most, especially for her son and daughter. Myself as well. During this confusing and odd and sad time, this video seemed oddly fitting, and I’m so glad to see both of you together and sharing this with us . Geez I’m crying so much. I can’t believe that voice to text is actually working. Heh. Sorry. She was no super fan of horror but would have appreciated this video. I’m sorry. It’s an awesome vid. I certainly don’t want to bring folks down. I love you guys and your content and it seemed to be….i dunno… I hope you understand. I’m 49. She was very healthy, bright, happy, outstandingly gorgeous at age 49 and now she’s gone. So, I beg your forgiveness, understanding and a few Rum & Cokes that I feel compelled to say something. Thank you again. Love and light…to anyone and everyone that may read this! ❤️ Love who you love and tell them every moment of every day!

"Did I request thee, Maker, from my clay to mold me man? Did I solicit thee from darkness to promote me?" Mary Shelley was heavily influenced by Milton's 'Paradise Lost' and how that epic poem examined the relationship and moral accountability between an arrogant creator and his creation.

I always loved the story of Mary! It was also so sad as far as everything she went through but she wrote one of the most amazing books. I wonder if Frankenstein was in reference to her husband he was so sweet at first then he turned into a monster.

Frankenstein is a twist on the Greek myth of Prometheus. Prometheus brings fire to humans despite Zeus’ warning not to, and pays the ultimate price. Frankenstein, like Prometheus, is over prideful of his ability to bring the dead to life. His excessive pride leads to his demise. So, the story warns to keep your pride in check. It also questions God and creation. But that’s a whole other analysis. 😂

I have a full arsenal of facts about Mary Shelley. Things oddly enough I picked up during my time taking Sociology and English classes in Univerity. Mary's mother was basically the founder of feminism (Mary Wollstonecraft), some believe that her mother's freethinking led Mary down a similar path heridatarily. She would argue with scholars like herself, one being William Wordsworth. She would have arguments with him either in person or in letter. This especially happened with his later works. Her father was also a scholar and would frequently invite his scholar friends over. She lived a very well-read and educated life! But the most surprising fact that I know is that at her young age, Samuel Taylor Coleridge (another author), he had recited some of his poetry to Mary. The poems scared her so much and she hid behind the couch! She also makes many allusions to him in Frankenstein. The work she may have been inspired by was "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" due to them both being a similar story. This may also be the story which scared Mary!!

Something you showed at the beginning of the video (Not Mary Shelly related) was that stone etching of someone on the cross being turned upside down by two people. I believe that is the apostle Peter who was also crucified, but because he did not want to be crucified like his Lord and Savior, he asked to be crucified upside down. The catholic church has an upside down cross that represents Peter's crucifixion (not to be satanic) LOVED THIS VIDEO/STORY THANK YOU MICHAEL AND JESSICA HAPPY HALLOWEEN🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

Hi! I live in Bournemouth, and prior to covid, I used to Volenteer at the Shelley Theatre in Boscombe, Bournemouth, which is adjoined to Shelley Manor, and is where Mary’s son lived with his family. When Mary became ill, he wanted to bring her down to Bournemouth, but sadly she died before he had the chance. The theatre is very small, it only seats 160 people, but it’s very atmospheric! In 2010, a performance of Frankenstein by candlelight was put on in the unrestored theatre, I bet that was extremely spooky!! And the theatre opened as a performance venue in 2014. I loved my time there, because, like you, I loved the connection to the family. Sadly it’s not re-opened since covid, but 🤞it will do in the very near future! Thanks for drawing attention to Shelleys’ Grave here in Bournemouth.

I lived in Bournemouth between 2016 and 2018 used to visit the Shelley families tomb quite often infact I would sometimes take that route walking back from work through St Peters Churchyard, I like the fact that parts of the Church Yard have now been left to nature. Would be fantastic for a movie location. I am so glad you located the Wetherspoons The Mary Shelley. Another Famous Author also lived in Bornemouth Robert Louis Stevenson famous for the novel Dr Jekyl & Mr Hyde. Both he and his wife Fanny lived in a house called Skerryvore located at number 19 Alum Chine Rd Westbourne between 1884 and 1887. Whilst living there he wrote Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde, unfortunately nothing is left of the house as it was bombed during WW2 however the land that was once occupied by the house is now a garden dedicated to Robert Louis Stevenson. Watching this brought back some great memories.

🖤💚🎃🌚Did you know... Mary wrote “Frankenstein” as part of a contest with her friends and husband to see who could write the scariest story? All this was brought on due to a volcanic eruption in Indonesia that blacked out the sky for quite some time, forcing many people to stay inside. To ease the boredom, this contest was created. The mood/tone of the story is all inspired by the tragedy Mary experiences in her life as well as being in darkness for so long due to this volcanic eruption. 🧟‍♀️

Poor Mary. from being a teen wife, mother, losing many of her children before they could even reach a higher age, only one living to adulthood. It's amazing to me how a teenager lived a life that was both adventures, as well as " so full of sadness". That from this sadness came her most famous novel " Frankenstein". And from having no idea what to write, after when Lord Byron said they should all write a chilling tale. Then that " waking vision" she had of a mad student, working a sparking machine, and a mound of dead yellow flesh, on top of slab gave her that spark to unleash her inner demons she was carrying since not knowing her mother ( thinking it was her fault for her entire life, that her mother died just 12 days after Mary's birth.") Her father disowning her after when she married Shelley. , then having a few miscarriages, and losing a daughter from an illness. As well as many more tragedies that happened in Mary's life. To write a novel about a monster who was rejected by his creator, then the world, then the image of bringing something back to life, (her dead children). Is a heart wrenching tale regardless of if you know the background of the plot.

I am just glad that Mary Shelly wrote Frankenstein, it is now a cult classic. But seriously I never heard about taking someone's heart and putting it in a jar with wine to preserve it. And Mary making love to Percy on her mother's grave, that is so crazy. That is something to write in the books for sure #RIPMaryShelly

Mary spent a lot of time in Dundee, Scotland from the age 14-16. She stayed at a Jute baron’s mansion called The Cottage. Dundee was a whaling port and big jute manufacturer around this time so was probably pretty grim place! It also sits on the River Tay which sometimes gets this dense fog travelling up on the river called Haar, it still happens and is very atmospheric when it does. This would have been her first taste of some kind of freedom in her life. I am sure the city must have been quite the experience for her, The Cottage was very close to where the whaling ships would come in. Thanks for another great video, best wishes for 2024 to everyone!

“Dundee, the then-whaling capital of the world was “Blubbertown”; the scale of its industry and rapacious plunder of the Arctic almost beyond belief. In Dundee’s docks Mary would have seen whale carcasses towed into harbour, carcasses of seals, walruses and polar bears by the thousand and vast piles of tusks and bones on the quays”

“In the preface to the 1831 edition of the novel which appeared under her own name, Mary paid fulsome tribute to the town: “the aerie of freedom … [where] the airy flights of my imagination were born and fostered.”
