Oodaku is such a gigachad, appears out of nowhere near the end of the movie, fights and easily overpowers Frankenstein, kills him and dissappears until WotG.
Baragon had two fights with Frankenstein and lost both of them meanwhile Oodako appears and easily overpowers Frankenstein without any challenge whatsoever.
The Military: "Frankenstein's dead! Clear out, good job all - get some rest." No One: "Umm - shouldn't you be concerned about the Gigantic Land-capable Octopus? Or at least the out of control Forest Fire?" The Military: "We said Job! Done!" ...
In my own opinion of this alternate ending, I can only theorize that the Giant Octopus had showed up looking for food. Since Baragon’s corpse was thrown off the cliff, the nearest food source it could reach was Frankenstein, whom immediately attacked it, and the Octopus instinctively took him as it’s prey.
The way i see it, Frankenstein pretty much had his way with Baragon until he finally killed him. The Giant Octopus 🐙 puts Frankenstein away in minutes. Big win for the Devilfish.
Baragon could take a lot of hits and got a few decent hits on Frankenstein. He should have utilized his burrowing ability more cause it seemed to confuse frankenstein when he used it.
If I had an alternate ending planned I would have Baragon survive but he was knocked out and waking up again with him fighting both Frankenstein and the giant octopus where all 3 fall into the ocean never to be seen again
It's just so random for an octopus to appear out of nowhere for this alternate ending. I like the original better when Frankenstein sinks into the ground with the dead Baragon during the earthquake. It gave a feel that this Frankenstein could've conquered the world after defeating and proving it's strength against Baragon. But hey it's not bad really since it can tie in with the war of the Gargantuans.
As far as I'm concerned, the octopus ending is the canon ending, but I honestly would've liked to see where Toho would've taken Frankenstein had they not killed him off at the end of this film.
@@michaelc.8712 The original ending is what I call the "standalone ending". The Devilfish ending is what I'd consider the "Godzilla continuity ending".
@@yamitoazilla9577Yes. The Devilfish ending wasn't wanted by Toho, the American producers asked for it to be filmed but then decided they didn't want it. It wasn't used for either the Japanese or American theatrical versions, but was then added for the Japanese TV version.
Thanks for posting. The octopus effects look better than I expected. For those still trying to clear up the history: the octopus was never part of the script or shooting schedule. They had wrapped when the American co-producer, Saperstein, said he wanted a giant octopus battle at the end. It cost Toho money to re-assemble and shoot this, but director Honda agreed with no intention of including it in the Japanese release. When Saperstein saw the effects, he didn't like them and didn't include it in the American cut either. But the scene was accidentally aired on Japanese TV and has since popped up here and there. The new Honda bio covers the story. Yeah, it makes for a nice link to "WotG," but they wouldn't have known that in '65!
I think the reason why Oodako came on land because it tasted a piece of flesh of Frankenstein when he was in the water. Despite it eating humans on fishing boats Frankenstein's flesh must have tasted special to him and made it craved more. Since Frankenstein is a mutated human it may have made Oodako stronger. That's my theory anyway. I know having a giant octopus appear out of nowhere in the woods is...ridiculous but I like this better then the original ending. Sure the original ending gave Frankenstein a chance to came back but to me I thought him not jumping off because he was to busy victory roaring was stupid. At least in this ending he went out fighting.
DEAR HEAVENS.. I would love love LOVE to find this incredible classic available again.. be it here or ( ESPECIALLY!! ) on DVD! AGG!! SUCH a Fun FUN Kaiju Flick!! AND from what I read online.. this is actually the back door to how they push into the next movie of " War of the Gargantuas"... it was some of the cellular matter from frankenstein that was IN the water that started to grow and feed on aquatic life that lead to the ( heavily aggressive and dangerous ) Green Gargantua. The BROWN one, was from pieces of Frankenstein that were left on the ground from various times he got injured that grew BUT which stayed on land.. and as per the original concept.. it ( the creature) was mostly non aggressive toward humans.
I love this ending of the movie! both of two endings reprensents symbolically that nature is capable of its own means of destroying an abomination created by the madness and irresponsibility of the mankind.
Wonder why Frankenstein's Monster didn't just perhaps LURE the Oodako to the flames ... would have made it an easier win for him ... or atleast just kept a distance and threw boulders at the Oodako ...
So the army or military is a-ok with a giant octopus running around loose? That was their best time to try to kill it was right after it was eating the Frankenstein monster.
I don't know why but that thing really freaks me out. Maybe cause I have a fear of being pulled underwater and maybe because seeing something like a giant octopus crawling on land is super creepy.
@@Roarrior. And even worse, this monster is the embodiment of the horrors of the Second World War as the German-Japanese Axis and the atomic bomb Little Boy, a demon born from the darkness of the heart of the Humankinds.
The octopus ending was from the original Japanese language version. A subtitled copy exists through TOKYO SHOCK video. The American/English version is where Frankenstein sinks into the burning earth after defeating Barugon.
TheLowrey88 America wanted a giant octopus in the film so they filmed this ending for the American version but at the last moment the American company didn’t want it in their version.
TheLowrey88 oh and there’s one more thing I forgot I’m not sure which one but todo or the American company felt that it was out of place (because he just fought baragon and right after that he fights another kaiju which only serves to kill Frankenstein off) but yeah it would of been cool to see this ending in the original ending.
