I am a philosophy, professor preparing his syllabus for a Course on propaganda, and how lucky I am that you took the time in trouble to read this paper allowed. I am now going to include it in my syllabus for the fall.
Thanks for listening! I wish I'd had this available to me back when I was an undergraduate student. I'm glad it's helpful, will be recording more papers soon :)
We are going to be discussing this book (in tandem with his other book, On Truth) in an upcoming session of our intellectual society, where we discuss philosophy and the works of great thinkers. Thank you for this reading
the fact that you changed all the male pronouns to they/them put a big smile on my face :) I'm reading this for a class and it was amazing to be able to listen to it!!!
@@Emre723 The change in pronoun usage in the field of philosophy the past multiple decades does not, I believe, arise from anyone being offended by male pronouns. I for one am certainly not offended by them. The field of philosophy has a gender gap that is more severe than even mathematics (for which it is common, public knowledge that the gender gap is severe). The effort to switch to non-male pronouns is an effort to make the discipline less male-oriented than it already is. Hope this helps :)
Yes, this is the original essay Professor Frankfurt published back in 1986. It was so well-received that he expanded it into a slightly longer book in 2005! :)
Just lost a small claims action. The defendant's written report was bullshit. Her testimony included lies. It was not only that event that brought me here but the notion that 'it's all bullshit' as well as an interest in the distinction between 'real bullshit' and any other kind. The bit about bull sessions is relevant in that apparently people are being cancelled for engaging in that sort of loose perhaps ritual mode. Anyway, listening was a pleasure. Thank you.
I'm sorry about the loss of the claims action. The prevalence of bull shit is certainly a problem with which our society will have to deal. Thank you so much for your message, I am glad you enjoyed it!
With Trump’s Super Tuesday win last night, this essay is more important than ever to read and understand. Trump is the greatest bullshit artist in US political history. His victory would have far reaching consequences globally and would be a triumph of bs over reason.
