Right up there with Frankie Beverly And The Butlers' If That's What You Wanted, Tony And Tyrone's Turn It On, Darrell Banks' Open The Door To Your Heart and J.J. Jackson's But It's Alright in the masterpiece department. Absolute, utter perfection.
First time Richard searling played this at the casino on a sat newies night he said this is a new one give it a chance 7th avenue aviators back in 79/80 still a top tune,
Watched culture show's Northern Soul: Keep The Faith last night. Heard this and tracked it down to here. What a great song and once again here I am sending a big thank-you to music lovers everywhere for posting songs.
Another great sound loved dancing to this at Wigan. So many great sounds. It whisks me back to that dance floor with sweat dripping from the ceiling - happy days
It's a floorshaker alright, the tempo builds,,,,backing vocal rises. When you are on the floor, that means everything. It's why you are there. Especillay that wee bit where the music cuts out ,, a slight pause, to the vocal,,,,, sublime. If you have a love for music such as this then you are not alone. KTF.
It's great that a short playing of this song (on that BBC2 documentary) has galvanised so many peoples' interest. As I write this I see it has had 4,177 hits here on youtube. If I am not mistaken, last week when I posted there were under 2,000 hits.
I found this absolute gem from that very short clip on the beeb. that bloke moving to it was incredible. He was Singing away as he danced. I had to find this song at that point. barnstormer.
What a great documentary, I was there at the casino from 1976 and this is the most accurate doc I have seen to date - great, great days. And what a brill sound - new one for me.
OMG this takes me back to Station Road - virtually lived there between '78- '81. Best days ever and it never ceases to amaze me that the scene is not only still going but bigger than ever. I preferred it when it was underground though. I could be found in M's once it had opened. By the time I stopped going the bjg room was playing Mecca and it wasn't the same. Idiots stsrted appearing too and pissing about. I got out just in time I think
Love this tune! I have it on the Congress label. If you ever want to sell the copy you show in the video let me know. Thanks for posting it for others to find. RIP Frankie you never got the recognition you deserved.
Would be interesting to get everyone’s ALL TIME TOP TEN, so we could distill a definitive TOP TEN. This is a contender without doubt. My equal No.1 are Ray Pollard the Drifter and The Chevrons Love I Love You…… but my Top Ten changes every week!
You're welcome, John. Try the CD "Floorpackin" from Goldmine Soul Supply. It's got the 7th Avenue Aviators version on it, and a lot more gems beside. It's on Ebay right now for £5.99 + free P&P (and no I ain't the seller lol).
Saturday night 18.00 till 20.00 BBC Radio Stoke Richard Searling x fantastic Northern Soul programme x makes me smile and makes me cry but takes me back to better times xx Wigan Casino KTF xx
The ones on Ebay are re-issues as released on the Congress label by Frankie Karl and the Chevrons as the 7th Avenue Aviators. Same track, same vocalist, same group, only under different name and a less raw sound (to my ears anyway). The one in the pic is the original on the Philtown label, and, if it is genuine, is worth quite a bit more than £13.49 :). As for availability, the Aviators version regularly features on Northern Soul CD compilations, so you should have no problem finding it.
Don't live in kly, for a long time but from 76 went to kly buffs club ,DJ Graham Slater, Jimmy sommers, rip both of them ,went to Wigan every sat night for newies and every oldies ,
not sure whether it was this song in particular but that 'Floorpackin' CD mentioned below just jumped to £29.99 on ebay. Go figure. I guess there is always someone out there trying to make a fast buck. It is still a great song and once the clamour has died down that CD will be back to £5.99
love this song|! been trying to find it to buy, any ideas where i can buy this from? nowwhere seem to have the band on their lists even ... getting frustrated x
