When Franklin Leonard started out in Hollywood, access was limited to those who started off with an “in” or were foolish enough to think they didn’t need one. But then Leonard started an email chain that changed the film industry: the Black List, an annual survey of the best unproduced screenplays. Since its inception over a decade ago, the Black List has featured scripts that have gone on to win dozens of Academy Awards, including three of the last seven Best Picture winners. The Black List is now a global community, part of Leonard’s mission to allow anyone in the world to get their foot in the door, remaking Hollywood as a place where content rules and diversity is rewarded.

I don't like it when he mocks someone's screenplay about a Super Storm where the writer felt Leo would have made a good lead for it. No matter what he says, that CAN be a fantastic movie. Isn't World War Z, Brad Pitt versus Zombie Apocalypse? Why wasn't that scoffed at when the script arrived? Matthew Broderick versus Godzilla? (OK, I'll give you that one.) Tommy Lee Jones versus the Volcano that will eat all of Los Angeles? (Ok, I'm not helping myself here.) Bill Paxton versus a Cat 5 Tornado. Yeah baby! Game over, man. Game Over. The Impossible with Naomi Watts and Tom Holland is a MASTERPIECE. So, can a script about a deadly storm that threatens Earth starring DiCaprio work? ABSOLUTELY! Maybe the particular script did suck. But the concept absolutely can work, especially since DiCaprio champions saving the World in real life. So Franklin, STOP mocking Super Storm because that film could definitely have worked. You were just too tired and had ready too many bad scripts to see its potential. You should publicly apologize to the write of Super Storm. No Kidding. Man up and apologize.

Here's more. The Rock versus the Earthquake and Flood. Connery versus the Meteor. Cusack versus the END Of All Things. Streep versus the Rapids. Schwarzaneggar versus the Devil. Not saying these wera all masterpieces but could someone write Leo versus a catastrophic Storm and have it be a billion dollar idea? Yes, and you know it.
