Fran and C.C. go for sushi, Fran tries wasabi for the first time and it has an interesting effect on her voice!
From Season 3 Episode 18 ‘Val's Boyfriend’. Over sushi, C.C. begs Fran to help reunite her with Mr. Sheffield. Fran does so by getting her old music teacher- who happens to look exactly like Marvin (and is played by him) - to pretend to be Hamlisch and to convince Maxwell to take C.C. back.

Growing up I thought Fran was stunning and her fashion was amazing, now as an adult I happen to see that CCs fashion was awesome too, and the creative team made an amazing job showing the visual contrast on CC's and Fran outfits. CCs fashion is always toned down and elegant in contrast with Frans flashy and colorful fashion.

Fran mentioned once that CC & Fran were set up as contrasting characters and that included their style as well. Though I always thought Fran was gorgeous I prefer CC’s classic style personally. I recently saw a clip of their Zoom table read of Episode 1 of the Nanny in 2020 and Lauren Lane still looks stunning.

Fun fact: If you want to hear Nany Fine speak in a "normal" voice for longer, she can be seen doing the same thing on Season 1 Episode 3* which is available in full on the channel. She hosts a debutante party and is coached by Cheffield and Niles to 'talk in a refined, elegant way' and she speaks this way for an entire scene.

@@Wheelwizardpuff English mustard looks the same, is slightly thicker and a lot hotter. If you have it with a meal generally half a teaspoon on the plate is enough. If I put it on a sandwich then a very thin layer is enough burn.

Well, that was probably prop Wasabi, something edible made to look like the real thing, but without the kick. Because there's no way you could recover that fast, from that much Wasabi, unless you're a total chili freak.

LOL!!! This is EXACTLY my 1st experience with sushi and wasabi. The lady I introduced to an old pal, this was their 1st date, I was the 3rd wheel. Wanting to impress her, we went out for sushi which was new for me. I was hesitant with the idea of raw fish but have come to love it. After my plate arrived, I nudged my buddy asking 'what's this green stuff??', He was busy trying to impress his new suitor, he simply answered 'It's a condiment" I thinking in terms of catsup, mustard, mayonnaise I slathered about half the lil' pile onto my 1st bite of fish/rice. It did much more than clean the sinus like Fran's experience. Within moments every single pore of my body from waist up was emitting moisture... sweat, tears, snot and more!!! Now I know why they only parse out a small quantity. A wee bit goes far...

No that’s just acting. The nasally voice is her real voice. Earlier in her career she took voice lessons in hopes it would get her more roles. She succeeded, as you can hear at the end of this scene, but then nobody wanted her without her trademark nasally voice so she went back to it. Just goes to show you the dedication she has to her craft.

My mom piled on the wasabi the first time she tried tuna sashimi. We warned her! But she insisted it would help “kill the germs” on the raw fish. We sat back and watched - it was HILARIOUS. She didn’t go beyond one chomp and spat it out in dramatic fashion. 🤭🤣

Needless to say, she learned her lesson that day and now approaches wasabi more cautiously when dining on sushi. But we still like to tease her about her wasabi mishap every now and then! It's become a funny family story that always brings a smile to our faces.

You can tell there was another take when it changed camera angles because she goes to reach for a glass, and then it cuts to Fran and CC’s arm is immediately back. I bet they had to reshoot that part because she laughed 🤣 and yeah I don’t know how she kept a straight face when Fran ate the wasabi 😂

Gosh, this brings so much memories. I remember watching the nanny with my siblings and mother at 7pm every weekdays when I was in middle school. I was barely learning English at that time but I could still understand the funny scenes. The butler and nanny's grandma were my favourite! I loved the nanny's fashion, I thought they looked good and suited her sexy figure. Sometimes I wished I could go back to those innocent times. 😌

I sat next to Fran Drescher on an airplane one time and it was a 3 hour flight. She laughed nonstop, literally never stopped laughing. We had a miserable flight.

The Nanny has such good replay value today. Especially to people like me who've only seen clips of it over the years, having missed the Nanny train when it was on tv. I recently rediscovered the show on one of my streaming services. Watched a couple of episodes and enjoyed the good natured laughs. This was tv's golden age, when comedy shows had studio audiences. This stuff now? Eh, I'm not a modern family or the office kind of guy. Then again, times have changed. TV changes with it. Good show though, The Nanny. I enjoyed watching this clip. Fran Drescher is just absolutely hilarious.

Oh, and that wouldn't be real Wasabi (most served in US is not as is way too expensive). It'd be STRONG HORSERADISH PASTE colored with green food coloring. Real Japanese wasabi paste is supposed to be LESS PUNGENT than its' "horsey cousin".

@@TieflingKumasi - ask someone who've been to Japan and have had both the genuine stuff and the "horsey" stuff. (probably a tube of genuine wasabi paste could go from U$20 and up and is seldom available outside of Japan unless you buy it online from a trusted source) What I tell you is from food reviews on YT from people (Japanese and foreign) who've "been there and tasted that". PS: and Fran is right: MUSTARD CAN CLEAR NASAL PASSAGES (had that very experience with Gulden's brown mustard from a gallon pump over a hot dog in the old Shea Stadium in Flushing, Queens years ago).

I remember watching this scene as a little boy. My mom and I would watch the show together, and during this scene we both completely lost it. I thought it was so funny, and my mom and I were both in stitches. I remember her enjoying my laughter, and hugging me tightly. It's a good memory I kinda forgot about until I re-watched the scene here.

@@mattr8251 It's the other way around actually, her natural voice is the Nanny voice, but she trained it off to get acting gigs. When she had success as the Nanny with her natural voice she just didn't bother to speak "properly" anymore. The episode "My fair nanny" in the first season kinda pokes fun at that.
