''God, I love wine'' . . . This retired janitor has been practicing his palette of a fine, deeply satisfying Australian wine, 'Yellow Tail' - Shiraz. Ahhh, the terroir - essence of wallaby, python, and emu are intoxicating, with aromas of ocean and seagulls, as the vineyards, located in several locations take-up these fine, um, spicy influences. I've had a ready supply of this fine Yellow Tail, daily, and nightly. Alas, I'm afraid I'll never become ''corkmaster'' of my local retired janitor's wine club . . . but, I dream on.
For those who haven't seen that episode, please watch that whole scene between Niles and Mel in the dressing room. It's a master class on acting by Jane Addams. She's as slithery as a snake! A regular Lady Macbeth!!!
It’s a great scene because she’s trying to talk Niles into believing he’s intellectually, physically, mentally, etc. capable enough to be the Wine Club president, but at the same time not even letting him choose his own clothes correctly. The focus she puts on the tie choice and the jacket choice is to be distracting him with this to let him not second guess what she actually wants - in other words, the actual proper matter at hand (her trying to get him to, ultimately speaking, run against and sabotage his brother). It really is a subtly manipulative scene and such a great one!
@@catherinelw9365 omg I thought you were accusing me of mansplaining for a second there so you might have seen my original reply 😭😭 but YES that line is so funny, and especially the way Niles says ‘I am, aren’t I?’ - my favourite other scene in that episode is when they sing the inauguration song (‘Hail Corkmaster…..’) and Niles does the little wave during this! I love that original song so much that it’s been stuck in my head during the most inoppurtune moments like during exams and even when I haven’t watched Frasier in months!!
I always loved that Frasier and Niles were basically like every obsessive nerd out there, but concealed it by having snobby interests. Whether it was opera, theatre, or wine...no one in their social groups seemed to be as into it as them. Probably because for them, it was just a way to show off to their high society friends, whereas the Crane boys treated those interests like nerds who are into D&D or Warhammer. They would have felt so much more at home in any of those communities.
I wouldn't say that. Frasier and Niles definitely had zero interests in superhero comic books, video games or any of that stuff. they were sophisticated and cultured affiecienados who were obsesessed with perfection and climbing the social ladder. They had nothing in common with Trekkies or D&D types at all and would probably roll their eyes at those groups to be honest lol.
@@kendallrivers1119Funny thing is they also have very little in common with the socialites they are desperate to be a part in. It was shown in the episode where they are desperate to go to a stage play but have no actual interest in it, they only want to go because the other socialites (who ARE interested in the play) are going and when they find out the only way they can see the play they have spent all episode trying to get tickets for is from the rejects line, they refuse.
"Nerd interests" are for people who are afraid of belonging to the world. That is a modern affliction. Older generations don't have that. These two also genuinely care about culture, they do belong IN the world. I've noticed that folks who belong to "nerd culture" are a bit insular, they will always see the world through the lens of what they know, which is very limited.

Literally EVERYTHING you cherish today was designed, and made up by a "nerd" 30 years ago, who were being classified as outcasts, by people like you, who didn't want them to belong. Everything from Satellites that give you your precious phones, and internet, to the Internet and phones themselves.. The medicines you cherish to keep your healthy, etc.. Everything today was made by "Nerds" with "Nerd interests". It's not that they didn't want to belong, it's that the world didn't accept them. There is a huge difference, and it still goes on today.
As much as Daphne was beautiful I feel Mel suited Miles much, much better and was a much more dedicated and understanding wife. She even looked the part whereas Daphne was too good-looking for a guy looking like Miles.

Oh that’s the worst if you truly still want to drink wine, have it fresh as table wine in Italy. Bottled red wine and white have the histamine that creates the allergic reaction. Or try the brand “Pure Wine” filter wand or pod that filters out what causes the histamine reaction. 😀
Truth is that both Frasier and Nile's would never have the skillset to be able to identify wines in the way that is presented...yes they know wines but to be a sommelier takes a ridiculous amount of studying, and both with medical degrees, would never have had time to study the craft.
@christineh4064 frasier had a practice in Boston and at the time he was drinking beer at Cheers! Not likely at all as studying wine and being able do identify it is not something someone can do 'on the side'
