Why does doll hair look so bad out of the box even when they use saran now? I had thrifted dolls with better hair. You shouldn't have to style the hair of a new recently unbox doll. I just leave the straws in overnight. I don’t do the dunk it hot and than cold water.

I remember some pretty bad hair back in g1 coming out of the box, especially with Ever After High. I thibk its because they're using less gel in it, which I'm actually grateful for. The only doll so far of g3 I've gotten with bad hair is Twyla, but she's the only one I've gotten with curly hair. I just washed it in hot water from the tap and combed it out, and it's pretty cute.

@NikolaitheBard I don't mind Twyla's bad hair. She's a sleepover doll. I have her displayed laying on an RH sleeping bag. Finally, I found a good use for Robin's sleeping bag. Odd that G1 has bad hair. I got some thrifted Barbies from that time period, and their hair cleans up nicely.

Trust, G1 curly saran was definitely like this at times even straight out of the box. A lot of dolls would either look like this or this is what they would look like if they didn’t have copious amounts of gel.

The curls are fabulous! Perfect! … It’s disgusting that dolls’ hair can look so terrible straight out of the box. We shouldn’t see it with saran but there it is and I question why. Hopefully people watching can follow your technique and have better looking hair for their precious dolls. I think the sunglasses are adorable. Great video. 👍🏻🌹👍🏻

ugh they look so good! and finally someone else said it idk why they print the lips so small if they make the lip mold bigger like it doesn’t look right especially on g1 style dolls since back then they usually all had their lips printed basically covering and sometimes especially for g1 ghoulia over lining the lip mold and for g3 the plump lips look so good. i hope mattel fixes this issue moving forward bc they kinda did with core refresh cleo

do you just wipe the old lip paint off and repaint or do you use MSC (mr. super clear) then repaint? i wanna know if its easier to just acetone and repaint or are their more steps?

I’ve tried both, and they don’t have much difference if you’re using acrylic paint. Just make sure to put varnish or MSC on top of the paint to seal it in

This is correct! Typically I don’t seal the face beforehand though. Not really necessary. 😊

What a great job! I'm such a MH fan! When they stopped making them I put mine all away. These are the first new dolls I've really liked and with real shoes not sneakers! Do you do a lot of monster high content or dolls in general? Either way I'm glad I found you!

question! because of the saran, would these curls hold a brushed out, wavy look? i’d imagine the style would fall quickly, but i’ve yet to try it!

They would definitely hold the curl with some encouragement. Just curl the hair slightly tighter and in smaller sections so that when you brush the hair out the curls won’t fall as much. Hope this helps! ✌🏾🫶🏽

Is there anyway to fix curly saran without having to do a completely new curl pattern manually? is there a way to just fix what mattel gave me in the box? I'm not good at curling and I just want their hair to stop looking like a ball of fluff on their heads. :\ I tried using some curl sculpting stuff on lagoona and it just looks frizzy with some definition. SOME. lol. I'm at a loss. The fly aways on these girls are driving me crazy. I shampoo, condition and brush out with a wide tooth comb, then a super tight flea like comb like you do. Take it piece by piece trying to get all the knots out. Then I think I finally did, i rinse her and It immediately starts drying and poofing :| I gave up on costume ball Draculaura. I just went in and straightened ALL of it. But I do want to keep Clawdeen nice and curly.

Okay so I may be stupid but like... what kind of straws do people use to curl hair?? I used plastic straws ones and when I poured the boiling water they melted (ofc) so I'm rather confused on what type of material are those straws made of? 😭
