barbershop quartets are such a treat to listen to. such a shame they are not as popular as they used to be. the harmonies are so tight. any group that can sing with tight harmonies as good as this; its a damn shame they dont get noticed. better than the singers nowadays cuz they can actually SING.
I was lucky to see this performance live from Anaheim, CA. I was 12 at the time. Still remember this performance as it was a favorite. Also met Dick Van Dyke here as well! Great memories!
Caroline, your father is one heck of a singer. I talked to him at a show in San Antonio Texas and he was very friendly. Sometimes you would think he's auditioning for the role of the music man that Robert Preston played.
I agree with you totally David BIGd Arruda and David Martinez. This quartet is really amazing. I am 82 y.o. and had the privilege of listening other very good quartets like the "ancient Barbershop Southern USA quartet" 1935-194some.
this is a masterpiece. the beauty, the art, the sound, the style, i mean this is perfection. wow. thanks guys. i would love to see them!!! come to chicago
Jacob Bankston Not unusual. Happens a lot. Once a quartet wins the International Gold Medal, their ineligible to compete as a quartet again, so members join another quartet so they can compete again. There are two current barbershoppers who have each won International Gold medals with four different quartets.
So i just picked up the two disc set of Putting the HA in HArmony and there's this song called "Top Ten Parody". I'd really like to see the video of this. Can anyone help?
David, cada día hay menos gente que sepa apreciar lo bueno, sobre todo lo antiguo bueno y valioso. I hope you read an understand Spanish. If not, just let me know it.
Boris Van Druff In terms of sound, I really do like Joe (especially in Keepsake), but to me, Rick is a better quartet member and has better blend as a singer... He is obviously a freakin' killer lead. FRED sounds SO dang good in this video. Their blend is crazy. ...so I'm not disagreeing with you. 😉
Can someone explain to me why the lead is wearing that thing on his head, and what it has to do with Platinum? Is it is just supposed to be like the lead of Platinum's hair?
Clay Hine was my director at the Big Chicken Chorus during this time. He was awesome, and an incredible arranger as well, doing most of the music for our chapter and others. His dad was at the Stone Mtn. chapter for years.
