Fred you are an absolute magician , touching and changing so many peoples lives . Such a beautiful man you are , thank you so so much for everything you do and I hope we get to meet you again . Bumped into you in Glasgow outside Sub club 🥲🧡 will never forget that moment . Seen you perform 3 times now and will Again In Hamburg ! 🥰 Your music is on another level and we listen to it nearly every day since we found you 🙏🏼
@@lepythagore3288 the meaning behind his music and the quality of each and every song is something not that many modern artists have in my opinion. The way he delivers his live performances by mixing it in and playing so much of it actually live. I really think he’s going to inspire a whole new generation of artists with his creativity. But that’s just my opinion and I’m very biased towards him hahahaha
@@robsawyer8784 Fair, I do think he's making cool music and has a distinct sound but I'm not really seeing how he's bringing something radically new to the table personally
@@lepythagore3288 what stands out to me is how intimate and raw a lot of his work feels. In a world where so much music (and media in general) is processed and manufactured, he's creating something that feels genuine & authentic that you can connect to on a more human level like nothing I've heard before.
It’s hard to put into words why I’m so drawn to his art. His music is so captivating and somehow feels inclusive. The energy and sense of community is really palpable. On a personal level his music just ticked so many boxes for me… this level of recognition is beyond deserved.
Totally agree. It feels nostalgic and surreal. It makes me long for a time long ago even though I can't place what exactly I'm even missing, probably because that distant memory isn't even real, just like a dream.
It's the authenticity for me. A breath of fresh air in the world of pressure, keeping up appearances and superficial conversations. He really seems to be iiving his best life
Zane is like that conversation you have in a random kitchen at 4am, with a stranger, who's now your soulmate, after you've double dropped and are levelling out
The second half with Fred actually touching the equipment and breaking down his music was sublime. Zane I’d love for you to do more interviews like this. Conversations but also space for them to share and explain their music.
I agree but most of the artists wouldn’t be able to articulate the production and compositional aspects of creating the sonics that goes into the creation process because they are not the ones performing and they have to maximize the person who’s names are on the marquee/selling tickets strengths.
It’s crazy cos when he talks about himself he’s quiet tense and gets quiet nervous (judging from his body language) but the second he speaks about music the cups down and he’s regains that confidence and you can tell music does a lot of good for him and really helps him just as much as his music helps everyone else ❤️
That look at 41:55 is pure admiration and Zane knowing how special this moment right there is and what this beautiful human is creating right in front of him. What an incredible conversation (cause this is no ordinary interview, don't be mistaken!)
Fred is that once in a generation kind of guy. The way he uses dead vocal space to heighten the message of what he’s trying to say takes talent. Fred saved my life and I’ll forever owe that to him.
@@observermanj8904 no point anyone answering this because if you ask it in the first place you clearly lack understanding and/or experience, to say the least.
crying because of the joy he feels when he does this. THIS IS WHAT MUSIC SHOULD MAKE YOU FEEL. pure love, pure emotion. He embodies passion more than anyone I’ve ever witnessed in this industry.
This man is a wordly treasure. How lucky are we to live at the same time as him and his music? Went from not knowing who he was 2 months ago to listening to him for at least a half hour a day every day since the boiler room set went live.
Fred is pure and the environment he creates exudes nothing but that: Purity and ecstatic connection. He's given us hope and a galvanizing sonic community during such a time of reckoning, personally and collectively. Weirdly enough, last night I had a dream I hung out with him. He sat me down and played some of his new music and asked what I thought. I woke up aching that it wasn't "actual life". Glad I have this video to pretend I'm Zane Lowe to haha See you guys at Fred's next NYC party!
Don't know why, but this video made me cry. I adore it when I see people so passionate about their craft and go the extra mile to inspire others, like Fred does. Needed this video, truly
I loved when Fred talked about making music in a club using headphones with noise cancellation and then shutting everything out yet being able to observe everything so beautifully. I did this at a festival I attended a few weeks ago. I was honestly not having the best night. I was trying to find my friends in a different camp but being too drunk and tired I ultimately just gave up and thought to myself I had to head home for the night and come back tomorrow. So for the first time ever during a festival I put on my headphones, pumped the volume all the way up, and put on Delilah (pull me out of this). Ironically that was probably the moment I remember the most from that 7-day festival. I felt like I became one with the music and my whole body just wanted to move. Walking through that festival alone and observing my surroundings while listening to Fred was just so incredibly beautiful - like I felt like I was in a movie. Thank you Fred for blessing us with your art
He’s like the polar opposite of artists who write a song and hardly ever listen to/ play them again. He constantly revisits and re works pieces. Truly unique and intriguing!
No words can accurately describe the love I have for this man, his mind and music. Nothing has provoked such a variety of emotions in me as Fred’s music and energy has. The best part about it all is that I don’t think he even realises how good he is and why he is so loved, he’s just doing what he enjoys. 💙
Spot on! Feel the same… the emotion, the connection you feel… he’s really got something special. I’m blown away by him as a person too. I just want to have a few beers with him for an hour! Actual Life complete ❤️💛💙
The way Fred uses these “drones” notes an voices makes it feel so familiar, relatable, and in some way intrusive to your feelings the songs feel part of you in the moment, I got lost in my thoughts, kind of like in the chaos I found you, I’ve been lost, put you loving arms around me and in the end I adore you (me)
When I listen to Fred, he pulls the most intense emotions out of my soul. Always releasing, enlightening and purifying. Such authenticity and substance. Around 6:15 he puts into words exactly how his music makes me feel- “Taking life’s fleeting moments and trying to expose as much beauty as is -in them. Like watching a hummingbird in slow motion, a whole new emotional framing.”
I literally only stumbled across Fred in the last few weeks and it's blowing my mind seeing how much thought and introspection he has for the music and his way of creative thinking. Fascinating and inspiring!
this entire interview was so inspiring and moving. i discovered Fred around last year and have been so incredibly in love with the way he produces and samples his songs. hearing him explain this entire thing and the different stories behind his music was beautiful. i could tell he was a bit nervous in the beginning, probably because he's never done such a big interview before but he did such a great job and i loved every bit of this conversation. i'm now taking in all the things he said. thank you Zane for interviewing Fred. i cannot wait to see him live in berlin this november. this show will probably be a very emotional one for me! much love
41:29 As someone who has been fortunate to see him live… this part gives me chills. You can just tell by Zanes reaction… I can only wish everyone who is a fan of his music gets the chance to. This guy is something special. Biiiiig big love. Thank you Fred!
41:50 just seeing zane absolutely mesmerized by fred's talent is such a beautiful thing to see, when he looks at fred you can tell he really is looking at a masterpiece.
17:08 I am obsessed with the thought of keeping that childlike enthusiasm alive. The world has many unique and unknown things that invoke emotions in us. A kid is not thinking about how x will help me to do y. A kid is just experiencing that moment and emotion in its full glory. I can definitely feel this captured and expressed in Fred's music.
Fred has taken the most pivotal step of his life by owning his music & unleashing his talent as his own. I think he clearly has a unique personality and he probably recently understood that this fact, in fact, does well for an artist’s public image.
one of the greatest interviews ive ever witnessed honestly, zane lowe is a gift to the collective creative community. such a compassionate and empathetic guide on conversations that can only be had when you really feel like what you're sharing is being understood, appreciated, and unjudged. love this man so much
As a person who discovered Fred Again via the boiler room set, it’s talked about in the last part of the video. Around 46:00 in the “Being Present in the Moment” part. 👍🏽👍🏽
"you can't make projects called 'Actual Life,' and then get mad when actual life presents itself" 👏👏👏❤❤❤ beautiful quote and the perfect summation of the Boiler Room set. Part of the magic that is Fred again..
i listened to the last speech twice because i couldn't believe what i was listening to. all of this interview is pure magic. i started to listen and know about fred this last two months and he is making me feels thing about music that i've never felt. this guy is literally changing the industry
His ability to draw from his own emotional experiences, all of it, and communicate that in such a life affirming way through his music, is unparalelled. Beautiful Stephen Colbert quote at the end, to feel gratitude for *all* of life’s experiences … this guy is wise beyond his years, like a Buddha ✨✨✨
Good ol Fred. One of the true gems of our generation of music. I think a lot of people can relate with this, but both your albums helped me through some really, really rough times. What a great human and musician. We cherish the gift you have given us.
@@eofvib3 I'm late to the question, but I recognised the other voice was Anderson Cooper and found it by searching "Stephen Colbert Anderson Cooper Suffering"
That two minute speech at the end is exactly what I think when I’m in the supermarket ( weirdly specific) going down the escalator and I can’t put it into words. It’s like I’m greatful those things happened around me and to me because it means I can understand people more so than others and you have a more deeper connection to life even though it comes with stress like anxieties- it is counteracted with the ability to relate to others and see through people and read how they are feeling( emphasise) quite easily.
Still riding the high on life from getting to see/meet him earlier this month. This man and his work are true treasures of our time and I'm grateful to be a part of it. Thank you for all your beautiful contributions Fred, may you shine in greatness as bright as you deserve.
My AL3 vinyl just shipped today, so excited for it. This man is really drawing me in, I love the vibes, I love the depth, the titles "Actual Life" really summarises what all those samples are about, it's emotional, it's reflective, it makes you fall into it. Fred man, you're a star dude, loving your work!
Two artists speak to my soul. Ben Howard, and now luckily Fred Again has added to that list. I don't even want it explaining, I just enjoy it beyond belief. What a man!
We are immeasurably grateful for you. I can't possibly put in to words how much your music has helped me, life's been tough recently, it's helped lift my spirits.
When zane says that in a strange way rappers or singers are manifesting there reality through song, it’s because they are seeing and feeling what they are channeling at that moment and in that moment there hearts are open and their energy field is open to receive so that’s a message sent out into the universe amplified with emotion and speech 🙏🏼 beautiful
What he described from the 6 minute mark is what I've been doing with playlists for the past 12 years! I describe it as capturing the "in-between moments" and personifying them through music.
Fred Again.. is in a class of his own. If you ever get a chance to see him live, don't hesitate. My god, his sets are an emotional roller coaster. I saw him at Coachella and then back here in Chicago at Lolla. You know an artist is unique when they can bring out the tears and dancing at the same time. And I hope he gets royalties from Native Instruments. I ended up buying a Maschine Plus. I know he kind of moved to the AKAI, but both are so much fun!
One of the most inspiring talks I've ever heard. I now realise why Fred has resonated with me ever since I first started picking up his songs and performances... thank you for being such an inspiration and thank you Zane for creating such an intimate atmosphere.
I feel like music is supposed to give you a ride to somewhere, building up your view of that place, letting you know it properly until you leave it to rejoin it again someday. There are places you like to place more than others, obviously. Fred makes such a good environment that I keep on getting in it over and over again. Thanks for that.
So i got a ticket for Fred by accident for Amsterdam and Brussels and ive been to both because after Amsterdam i was like IM NOT GONNA SELL THE OTHER ONE. It was the best show ive ever been to, and like it were 2 whole different shows even the way he played the songs, were different somewhat. he is soooo crazy talented. Next year, if i can i will go to both again, its soooooooooooo good if you never been, go 100% your really missing out!
I love this interview! I genuinely feel so connected to his music and what he expresses. Fred Again's music hits me deeply, It's like he's speaking right to your soul through the speakers, making his music more than just a sound - it's an experience. What an amazing artist, I'm so glad I get to live his development and upcoming tracks!!!
I listened to Actual Life today for the first time. The intro I was hooked then, Kyle (I Found You), came on. I was flooded with so many memories and then found myself thinking of my current friend group. I am so grateful for them and for the life I have. I was getting ready for my stream and listening to this song on repeat. I then decided to play those two tracks on my intro and then had everyone asking "WHAT IS THIS!!" I went on camera and finished out the track. I began to talk about the feelings and things in my head and could not hold back the emotion. Today Fred Again made me feel something I haven't felt in a long time. I learned something today. I found you. I thank you.
Zane, it is a true gift for you to have captured something so special through this interview. The way you both interacted through conversation on the couch is something I search for everyday. It wasn’t only an interview. It wasn’t hard to see the emotions bouncing off the walls through every next question you presented. More than conversation, what you were able to put into just 1 hour of time has me deep in thought and inspired…almost as much as when I listen to the newest drop from Fred. 😂 the way you and Fred interact makes me desire so much to share that kind of interaction but I know those times are to come in my own life. Thank you for creating this piece of art, I’m sure I will be viewing it over and over again!
That moment at 40:59 just created tingles right up my spine and now down my arms. It’s those moments where music can just stop all the talking/thoughts/ideas in your brain and you just become absorbed by music. Those are the moments I love the most.
been obsessed with music since forever, have used it as a mental lifeline as much as a career path, and I've never come across works that have moved me as much as Fred again's have.. truly life changing for me
Fred is my inspiration. His music guided me through my awakening and now I want to start doing something similar and help others express their emotions through music. I’m starting college to study psychology to get a deeper understanding about frequency’s and how they affect the human brain. This could be life changing for the EDM world. Thank you Fred ❤
that boiler room set is so beautiful.. the amazing songs and having the people so close + fred performing, i love it.. its love in a video, wish i was there.
That last moment with Colbert in the background, speaks to such a universally, terribly wondrous part of all of this. Stoked to see that bleed into more of Fred’s work.
Jamming out/finger drumming is so much fun. The pure bliss of finding the little parts of vocals that just hit that pocket, and give you a dopamine release 🥴
Fred is a humble genius, in tune with every part of the process. The MPC took me back to cut chemist, DJ Shadow and numark live show. God he is skilled in everyway
One of the best interviews I have watched to-date. Felt like I was in the room with them. The conversation beautifully flows and I feel that sense of connection, and for once I totally understand the emotions from other side of the screen. Grateful to be living in a time as Fred, to not just know his music but to also know his character and his love for the craft. To know tiny details of his life has definitely been a life changing experience for me. He inspires me to love what I do without being hard on myself but to only enjoy and grow.
Also Ed sheeran. Actually really cool how he had a chance to co produce an Ed sheeran album when he was really not that famous. He's such a good producer.
@@sigismundfreund he's been massively known within those circles for a long long time, trust me it wasn't 'a chance', he has been the go to producer for major artists way before all this mainstream hype. He wrote the vast majority of those tracks on the Ed Sheeran album you mention. Take a look on Google at just who and what he has produced.
Man, I got introduced to his music because of hid bolier room set! IT CHANGED the way I view music!! IT is so unique and lively......fell in love with his music immediatly!!!
