I'm lucky enough to buy myself a set of the Reel pipes and for me it's worth every penny! I play the Highland pipes aswell but these are so enjoyable to play (once mastered lol) and different, it's difficult to tell how loud they are from a video so the best I can describe is aslong as you have a nice weak reed in it (weaker the more mellow and not as loud) there half the volume of the bagpipes in my opinion. if your in a room e.g. piping at burns night, playing the bagpipes in the room while people are talking to each other while eating there haggis they struggle to hear each other talk and the bagpipes can sometimes be a bit over powering in a room but the reel pipes being played during there meal is loud enough to be herd but people can still talk normal and won't need to raise there voices so the audience enjoys them more and they have more of a sweeter, lower tone to them than the bagpipes, brilliant for busking aswell because there not loud enough to annoy the shop workers if you go regular 😂 and don't get the mouth blown get the bellows lol you don't have the moisture problems and there fun to play, I would recommend buying your self a good tuner, I use the HBT3 Blair tuner, use it to get it as close as you can to 440Hz but sometimes it's best to make slight adjustments to the tape even if it reads 440Hz to get it perfect! when you 1st play with bellows it's best to knock the drones off aswell and get used to keeping the chanter stable while practising your bellow techniques, at first I thought to myself "I'll never be able to play them and I've wasted my money" lol but honestly after a few weeks of practise you'll get there and then introduce 1 drone in at a time to get used to the more air passing threw, any established bagpipers out there will need to learn not to squeeze it so hard lol but I'm so glad I've bought mine and don't regret buying them 1 bit, that's my essay over lol hopefully I've helped at least 1 person with my comment 😆

I discovered some good synthetic reeds that work in the Uilleann Pipes. I wonder if they would make some for the reelpipes. It would help take care of the tuning issue with mouth blown pipes.

Real pipes is just another term for border pipes. some people also call them lowland pipes. they are all the same thing.

How loud are they on a scale of 1 to 10? 10 being my McCallum Highland pipes and Chanter with a strong Megharity Ross reed with loud Crozier drones

Whats the name of the tune Fred is playing?

Bomberpiper - It’s an arrangement of a traditional strathspey called the brove lorry. The music is in Fred’s outlands music book.

I thought he made these personally?

He designs them I believe, but his company has too wide a clientele for him to be able to keep up with orders on his own

He's not joking about the mouth blown pipes! They won't stay steady for more than a few minutes and are no pleasure to play... Mine have laid in their case for years :(

This is not how they really sound in real life. The drones are much louder and more raw sounding and the chanter is much louder and hard to keep in sinc with the drones. This is a filtered sound in this video
