Fred Parris is an American singer, songwriter, and musician, best known as the lead singer and founder of the doo-wop group The Five Satins. He was born on September 26, 1936, in New Haven, Connecticut, and began singing in church at a young age.
In 1954, Parris formed The Five Satins with four other members, and the group quickly gained popularity with their unique blend of R&B and doo-wop music. Their signature song, "In the Still of the Night," was released in 1956 and became an instant classic, earning the group a place in music history.
Despite experiencing several lineup changes over the years, Parris remained the heart and soul of The Five Satins, and the group continued to perform and record music throughout the 1960s and 1970s.
In addition to his music career, Parris was also a songwriter and wrote several of The Five Satins' most popular songs, including "To the Aisle" and "Wonderful Girl." He also worked as a producer and helped launch the careers of other successful musicians.
Parris continued to perform and record music well into his later years and remained a beloved figure in the music industry. He passed away on June 26, 2021, at the age of 84, but his music and legacy live on, and he is remembered as a pioneering figure in the doo-wop genre with a voice that continues to inspire and captivate listeners.

This Philly Girl met him and his wife about 6 or 7 years ago on Palm Sunday. I was on my way home from Mass. And I was talking to a doctor I worked with who lived at bus stop at 19th and Lombard Street where I waiting for the bus to go home. I happened to turn around and he was in the passenger seat and his wife was driving. So I said to him, excuse me are you Fred Parris of the Five Satins and he started to smile and his wife said how you know. And I told her I saw him at an oldies show in Pittsburgh PA. She pulled over so I could talk to him. They were very nice people. They were Catholic like me. She saw I had some palms in my hand and she asked me for some and I gave her some. So me and him talked for a while. I asked them what were they doing in Philly and she said they were visiting her cousin in the hospital here. They had Connecticut car tags on their car. I was so sad to hear that Mr. Parris had passed away. But I am so glad I got to meet a singing Legend. RIP and sing with the Angels. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 I still love this song April 5, 2023.

That guy in that Black and White suit jacket is not Mr. Parris that is Jackie Wilson's son who performs at Oldie Shows singing his father's songs. Let's not get it twisted.
