I’ve said this before, but I cannot understand how Freda Payne the most photogenic, sensual and most beautiful of all Motown stars did not do more than belt out a few hits on the merry-go-round. Wtf went on back then?? I am convinced Hollywood took a look at her, screen tested and said ‘Hell No! She’s just too damn gorgeous and sexy, she’d steal every scene from our Hollywood superstars without even uttering a word’ 😂
Freda was never with Motown! The producers Holland/Dozier/Holland that produced all of the hits for the Supremes, the Four Tops and others had a money dispute with a Berry Gordy (Motown’s founder) and left to start their own label. Freda was one of their first artists but The HoneyCone, Chairman of the Board and others did well too.
@@debrashepard3949 yep agree 👍. I’m 52 now and back in the 70’s when I was a child this song was everywhere. Happy Times. Let’s go back! What U think? TIMEMACHINE Please!!!
They need to watch the Soul Train version and learn from dancers that actually have rhythm ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-95WDpLC1_4E.html
I was 12 years old in 1970 when I first saw and heard Freda Payne singing "Band of Gold" on TV. Freda was not only beautiful, sexy, and classy, but she was also amazingly talented, and she stole my heart!
There's a debate here about what caused the dancers to be lacking in rhythm - some blame qualudes, others blame LSD, but it could just be the video is slightly out of sync with the audio in some places
I’ve been hearing this song my entire life and this is the first time I’ve seen Freda. WOW, what a knock out! How did a record company not provide the backing to make her a superstar? Beautiful, sexy and talented.
@@josephalberta1145 And her first husband was Gregory Abbott. Makes you wonder if his hit "Shake You Down" was actually about their divorce settlement...
Like you this legendary song is one I’ve been haunted by 😂since childhood. I never knew what Freda actually looked like until a few years ago, 50 years later. …I was stunned into silence at how beautiful, sexy and classy this lady looked then and now. Those age old questions bubbled up again, about race and opportunity in the US, especially for black women at that time. I understand she had a few small TV roles one as a talk show host, but nothing really significant. I’m just left asking what happened??
And 2 years later after your comment I can say the same thing. Heard this song today on some AM radio station out of the Pacific Northwest and made a mental note to check it out on RU-vid. This song has always made me happy 😃 the dancing is rather comical. Lol
This video is priceless. Great song by Freda Payne one of my favorite songs of all time and she looks great too. But the backup dancers make the whole thing. This video is historic - the beginning of when white people were starting to get funky. Maybe they couldn't quite dance like the Jackson 5 but at least they were trying. I want to try and practice these bad dance moves. I love the whole thing!
I love this! Never knew who sang it. Not until listening to a Tavares track which she was featured on. I think she has a beautiful voice n she's easy on the eyes too...
Look at this and weep rhianna and justin bieber...this is what is known as Talent and Class...in spades...are we going to be listening to you 40yrs down the track...i have my doubts!
I remember exactly where i was when this first came on our transistor radio , Dugway Utah 1970 , i remember my mom and two sisters danced in the kitchen....after hearing this song and seeing it on our tv my sister decided she wanted to be a dancer like the ones in this video....AHHH.... the memories , i go back if i had a chance in a heartbeat. My mother used to get her hair done the same way.....this music is priceless
DC comics created a character from India called Celsius who had this outfit. You can tell the artist was inspired by the memory of this beautiful woman and video. P. S the characters back story is the same as the song.
As a fan of hard rock and metal I do love Motown music. I’ve heard this song many times in my life and I think it’s one of the best songs I ever heard. Plus this lady is just perfect looking. Look at those legs.
Band Of Gold ~ Freda Payne Now that you're gone All that's left is a band of gold All that's left of the dreams I hold Is a band of gold And the memories of what love could be If you were still here with me You took me from the shelter of my mother, I had never known Or loved any other We kissed after taking vows But that night on our honeymoon We stayed in separate rooms I wait in the darkness of my lonely room Filled with sadness, filled with gloom Hoping soon That you'll walk back through that door And love me like you tried before Since you've been gone All that's left is a band of gold All that's left of the dreams I hold Is a band of gold And the dream of what love could be If you were still here with me Oh, don't you know that I wait In the darkness of my lonely room Filled with sadness, filled with gloom Hoping soon That you'll walk back through that door And love me like you tried before Since you've been gone All that's left is a band of gold All that's left of the dreams I hold Is a band of gold And the dream of what love could be If you were still here with me Since you've been gone All that's left is a band of gold
She is breath taking.., I had a chance to met her in a club back in the day's in Los Angeles., I became speechless when she gave me her attention but I still enjoy the memory of the encounter till this day.
what can you say about a song that touches your heart , makes you realise what you had and what has gone , well we had all the time and the innocence of youth This version and video is perfect , beauty and nostalgia , excitement and sadness, all encapsulated in one song ….
I was 13 when this song came out and developed a huge crush on Freda. What a gorgeous woman!!!!! She would appear on a number of shows then and I couldn't wait to see her. She was one of my earliest big-time crushes and wished I was older---as if I had a chance LOL!!
I remember that outfit. It was so Hip back in the days. We dressed Cool and Funky back in the 70’s. What a time to be Alive. So much fun and such Great music. Miss them days and my all time favorites, the 80’s
I know this song Heard it Remember Hearing it. 🤫 But Never EvEr 😮 Did I Know She (Freda) was So SeXy n Sultry n Lusciously Beautiful 💚💜🧡❤️💛🩵🩷 Her Outfit is So 🔥🍀
Love this song, an all time classic from back in the day. You go Freda, gorgeous then and she still looks amazing. Those dancers, they did indeed try, but the outfits didn’t help!! Oh Lordy. 😛
I noticed 54 likes and 1 dislike! This is Soul Music at it's best anyone who can't be moved by this or groove to it, has no Heart or Soul! I LOVE YOU Freda you are still a very Beautiful Woman!
Heard this son on the radio. Huge metal fan, rock and roll. Not sure the genre of this song but the build of it makes the hair on my arms raise and that's all that matters
