Freddie Freedman of the Dodgers is going through a challenging time. His son, Max was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome the family announced, a condition in which the body's immune system attacks its nerves, causing weakness, numbness and, in Max's case, paralysis. There is no known cure for GBS, but treatments can help improve symptoms of GBS and shorten its duration. Given the autoimmune nature of the disease, its acute phase is typically treated with immunotherapy, such as plasma exchange to remove antibodies from the blood or intravenous immunoglobulin.
Pacific Neuroscience Institute Neurologist Dr. Akanksha Sharma commented on the condition on Inside Edition.
We send the Freedman family our very best wishes.
