Freddie Mercury was a man of many talents and many different sides. The songs he wrote for and with Queen filled stadiums around the globe and have rightly gone down in history, but he also embarked on a solo career that took him from the clubs of Munich and New York to the great opera houses of the world.
He was the ultimate showman, but he kept his private life away from the prying eyes of the media; a larger than life rock star who loved disco, classical music and ballet. He was a restless spirit, a true chameleon who revelled in his own contradictions.
All the different sides of this iconic musician can be found on Freddie Mercury: Messenger Of The Gods - The Singles. All formats released September 2nd 2016.
This was Freddie Mercury's third single from the 1985 'Mr Bad Guy' album - his first solo album. Filmed by Rudi Dolezal and Hannes Rossacher, it was shot entirely at Henderson's Nightclub in Munich, Germany, on September 5th and 6th 1985, as part of Freddie's unforgettable 39th birthday celebrations. The single was released in the UK on 2nd September 1985.

Background info: This was filmed in Munich, in 1986 or 1985, the party is real, and went real crazy. Freddie Mercury is the only person acting in this video. All the others followed an invite for a drag party in black & white.

Because that's how Freddie faced his troubles all the time, as people say. He never cried or complained on his life. He always smiled and moved on. Even in his later days, when he definitely knew that he singing his last songs, he never complained and even talked about it, as Brian said. When Brian and Freddie were writing the song "Show Must Go On", Brian said that he wrote it about Freddie. He was that clown, in which his heart is breaking from the inside, but his smile is stayed on him. It was very hard for Brian to look how Freddie goes through it. And as he said, he never told to Freddie "you know, that song is about you", and Freddie never asked "Hey, Bri, who is this clown?". Both of them knew what the song is about and no words was needed. So, show must go on. I think that's why Freddie made this song intensionally this dancy, because probably he wanted to show, that you have to meet all your problems with the smile on the face.

Little known fact: MTV wouldn’t exist without Queen. They had a vision beyond making amazing music, they wanted to give the audience a whole experience to go along with the sound. They invested in the video and audio quality of their concerts and music videos. This is why just about every piece of footage of Queen performance is just about perfect and ahead of its time.

@@sutiszorny8039 He was, I think, as most of us, sometimes very happy and sometimes very sad. It's stupid to say "he wasn't truly happy", he had authentic moments of pure joy and extazy that you can associate to real happiness. You can feel this positive energy in a lot of songs he made ; if he hadn't found sometimes real happiness in his life, he would never have been able to write such music. But, of course, this joy and happiness weren't permanent ; he also had his moments of pure loneliness and pain, for sure. You can find a good illustration of what I mean in the song "Pain is so close to pleasure" Cheers!
