Freddie wrote this for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Unfortunately, he passed away in 1991. But, they still included it in the Opening Ceremony. Queen/Freddie Mercury has the distinction of having their music included in the Barcelona Olympics, the London Olympics (Bohemian Rhapsody) and the Tokyo Olympics (Teo Torriatte). You need to also do Golden Boy. Freddie’s brilliant fusion of opera meets rock + soul/gospel!
Freddie recorded an album with Montsy....Freddie wrote barcelona...check out THE GOLDEN BOY and HOW CAN I GO ON...to hear Freddie's operatic range EXERCISES IN FREE LOVE it's all vocal and it's all Freddie's vocals.
@@SimplyTwoDudes any QUEEN fan can tell you about them...there's good documentaries out there DAYS OF OUR LIVES, THE UNTOLD STORY...it's Brian, Roger, and friends that talk about QUEEN and FREDDIE MERCURY....but I've been a fan since 1971
Two power people in their own realm - rock & opera - come together. Freddie confided to Montserrat about his illness as he did not have the confidence to sing this live...she was touched by his trust and moved by what his musical command. This was a very special moment and relationship for them both.
This was the first crossover between a rock singer and an opera diva. Freddie had a very eclectic musical taste and he loved the theatrical world, he was even dancing 😅 with the Royal Ballet for a charity event. Montserrat was the ultimate singer to Freddie and he wanted to make a duet with her once, they met in Barcelona, got on well very quickly, she loved Freddie's melodies, appreciated him as a singer/musician and asked him to write a song about her hometown Barcelona.
What I love most about this is how you can feel the genuine affection they had for each other. Let’s not forget this was the early 90’s and there was still a horrible stigma towards AIDS patients and the fact that Montserrat held his hand and was so close to him KNOWING he was infected just makes me love her more.
Magical is the perfect descriptor. The “arts” consist so many different genres. This operatic, the ballet, orchestras etc are have their roots in classic, traditional music.
John recorded a song outside of Queen also, but only the one and it didn't do well. He did produce for other bands in his studio and played bass for several other bands as a guest bassist
check out Freddie's solo Exercises in free love. His voice will blow your mind. The movie is good, but.full of inaccuracies e.g. Queen never broke up and Freddie was diagnosed with AIDS in 1987.
Queen is a band formed by four members who compose their own songs and are multi-instrumentalists. In addition, three of them also sing. There are songs where Roger Taylor and Brian May are the main vocalists mainly on the band's first albums. Therefore, it would not be surprising that the three release a solo work at some point. Drummer Roger Taylor was the first to venture out, playing almost every instrument on the album on his first LP except 50% of the synths. Brian May followed in his footsteps with improvised work alongside Eddie Van Halen. Mercury was the third to release a solo effort.
Thanks for directing me to this. The 4 Queen guys, Brian, Roger, and John and Freddie are Legendary musicians. Freddie Mercury’s 1991 death did not diminish his star quality. The Diva, Montserrat Caballe’ died several years ago. She was in her 80’s.
Freddie did an interview where he said he was not interested in doing theatre. He didn't have the discipline. He woke up late in the afternoon, so matinees were out - LOL. He was asked to star in the Rocky Horror Picture show (3 times), but he turned that down.
Ha - "she's more of an opera singer" - she was one of the best known opera singers in the world! lol.... Freddie was a huge fan, and he put forth a proposal to her to sing together.. he wrote an entire album that they recorded together.. and they so LOVED each other.. lol I hope you do more...
We care 1990 😉 Freddie enjoyed Opera, Ballet, Art and I'm Paraphrasing , but he Said he didn't want to Just "Stand there", and Sing, but to wanted to "Entertain" People...so you were Correct
I think it’s called call and response . I’m not positive but pretty sure . I’m probably wrong but her singing is absolutely opera and to me Freddie sounds kind of like Rock opera if that’s even a thing I would listen to Freddie sing the phone book. I think theatrical is what you mean when you say Disney. If you think about Bohemian Rhapsody he wrote that completely on his own and that is definitely like musical theater. I apologize I don’t recall your names but the comment you made about why you were smiling at certain parts is why for the first time watching this I was crying like a baby😭😂 I can’t think of a word to describe it but you looked awe struck or if you are familiar with AC/DC Thunder struck lol. Now I have to go fix my makeup lol great reaction guy’s
Hello fella's this is another group to check out. "The Staple Singers - I'll Take You There/We The People Live 1972 [Reelin' In The Years Archives]" This is an American gospel, R&B and soul group. Roebuck "Pops" Staples was the patriarch (head) of the family, he formed the group with his children Cleotha, Pervis and Mavis. Yvonne replaced her brother when he was drafted into the US Army. They had quite a few very big hits. And culturally speaking they left a big impact.
so glad you did this.i suggested it and gave you 2 versions to try.so thanks. in 87 i was 15 still in scondary school.it was the year dirty dancing came out so i was waiting for it to come to the uk so i could get a crush on patrick swayze rip!lol. freddie wasn't trying to get into broadway.the westend if your in the uk.he just had a love for other music opera in particular.so he took some time out from queen and explored. i get the disney annoyance.this wasn't disney!you can find thuings magical without it being anything like disney!like young reactors don't know music but know mj's later stuff and look for comparasions in every thing they react to.do they think artists just sat around doing nothing until mj did something and then copied him?no they were their own people.i do like disney.love mj so not dissing them.
Now he would never do Broadway because it is boring during the same thing every night that's what he said that is Opera actually he and Maserati have a completely straight up opera song together you have to check it out and he does run by his self exercise and free love you have to check it out Freddy is magnificent
Disney does a lot more than stuff for kids, you know. I am a hard core Queen fan and I agree that this has Disney vibes, and I don’t think that’s an insult in any way. You should check out the other songs on the Barcelona album like Golden Boy and How Can I Go On.
I appreciate your reaction but it´s always focused on Freddie. He had opera training in his youth and seeked her out but she was the biggest opera star in the world and was incredibly open minded, they became best friends and she carried his memory until her death in 2018
Every member of Queen did his own things without Queen, not only Freddie. The movie was terrible, Freddie was not that selfish bad boy like in the movie The separation, Live Aid story are only lies for more Hollywood drama and so many others...
